Because sometimes they get into things that you can't let them lick off. A friend of mine had a cat that liked to lie under cars, until she got herself covered in engine oil from one. Not sure if it was the oil or the subsequent baths but she stopped napping under cars!

Smelly or toxic substances, and medicated baths for skin conditions all necessary evils. (Although this post doesn’t readily appear to be one of these situations). Fleas? GTFO.

My cat somehow got into the eves of the house (from the inside!) and was covered in insulation. It was a horrible experience to bathe him, for both of us. But I wouldn't have thought to buy the bag beforehand and certainly couldn't wait for it to arrive if I had bought one after. And I never needed to bathe him again.

As a one off, yes bathing for fleas. I can't even understand why you cut your cat's nails. I have had an indoor cat, but she still had a scratch post.

We gave two cats who spray each other when they get mad so we have to bathe them.

So that it doesn't get dirty or sick. Cats clean themselves by licking, and if they have some type of chemical or garbage on them they could consume it in an attempt to clean them self. Giving a cat a bath could be way safer than letting your cat do all of the business.

Sphynx cats need baths about once a week. Their skin gets oilier and sweater than cats w/hair. So they need baths to keep their skin healthy. Good question.

For the thrill of it' I'm guessing. Bungee jumping and sky diving is so much hassle and expensive. Not sure if the cat appreciates it, though. Other than that? No idea (except special circumstances, maybe, but it seems a regular occurence with OP)

I have a 19 year old cat that is unable to clean herself, as her arthritis doesn't allow her the flexibility that she used to have. As she is also long haired, she mats and stinks. THAT is why you wash a cat.

Because they get dirty and smelly and need bathing. If you start them young enough, they are fine with it.

I've never heard this. It seems kind of possible that it could be harmful... it is ground up glass... but the glass that is ground up would be so small , it probably wouldn't hurt . I have no idea . Maybe try chinchilla bath dust ? It probably won't help with bugs though .

Yep, just let them ingest whatever toxic substance those nasty bathers are trying to clean off of them. They probably still believe in that 'old wives tale' about cats being able to catch fleas. Unbelievable! In all seriousness though, I think it's you that needs to get over yourself. They do need baths sometimes, and in the wild cats generally enjoy swimming. It's only because a lot of people dob't know how to introduce a cat to water that people like you believe the 'old wives tale' that all cats hate water and bathing must obviously be cruel. I know that you've demanded that people should 'educate themselves', but you might want to read a book or two on cats before making that kind of statement. Heck, even just employ a bit of common sense- would you really let a cat who has rolled in a toxic substance clean themselves? Or are you suggesting that it magically disappears?

Yes, you do. Cat tongues don’t get everything, would you like fleas to get off of cat? Guess what, baths are the only effective way. Cats need help cleaning, too, a once a year bath to help them get off what they couldn’t, works wonders.
