Did you know that a physicist once made his cat the co-author of his paper because he'd accidentally written "we" instead of "I" throughout his work and couldn't be bothered to change it? Also, believe it or not, the British Government has a position called "Chief Mouser To The Cabinet Office" that can only be assigned to a cat. And although this may not surprise you, a study once proved that cats are more than capable of recognizing their owner's voices, but simply choose to ignore it. Scroll down for more entertaining facts about cats, compiled by Bored Panda. Don't forget to vote for your favorite!

I disagree. They think we're the greatest hunters when we come home from the supermarket! We feed them every day. They bring you dead animals as a way of saying, see? I can do my part. Here take this lovely offering as thanks for all the meals you've provided to me!

real fun starts when they don't kill the mouse and want you to learn to catch it... then it get's trapped under furniture and lives there for months. or when a cat brings a dead bird, leaves it on patterned carpet and you step on it accidentaly in the middle of the night....

Or Bengal kitten keeps bringing us his toy mouse (stuffed with catnip) and decided to teach us how to play "Fetch" by dropping it on our laps and then waiting for us to throw it. He cases after the toy, and expects us to throw it for him again. He does this for 40 minutes at a time ((after which he's usually so tired he has to have a little nap!) If we *don't* play "Fetch" with him, he sits there looking sad and disappointed, meowing until we get the message/give in and do what he wants. We didn't tech him to do this, *he* taught *us*!

NOPE. They do that to show off to us. If what this image is suggesting is true they wouldn't eat the animal they bring. They already know we have food, otherwise they wouldn't ask for it every time I open the front door.

Yeah...our cats are indoor only. When you ask them what they do for a living, all they have to say is, "So? Do you see any mice?" .... There's really nothing you can say to that.

On second thought, though, humans kill innocent rodents too. The cats do it because its their instinct, the humans do it because they are complete #$%# that I would like to poison or decapitate or de-skin so they can understand what they are doing to the poor babies

This isn't why cats bring you dead animals. Wild cats are solitary. But feral domestics live in large family groups with all the adults contributing to feeding the group. When your cat brings you a animal, it's because he feels it's his responsibility to contribute to the family. The "cats think you are crappy cat" was disproven years ago.

It's not really that -- it's more that they think we're family, and it's their job to share with us, just like it's our job to share with them. I mean, there IS a bit of an expectation there of, "Well, I gave you a bird, so you have to give me the rest of the milk from your cereal".

kittens do bring their mothers prey to show her their hunting skills, and to be shown how to eat the prey, without choking, i think. so cats may be just doing the same thing for humans as a token of affection - most cats tend to felinize us humans as furless, vertical cats.

No they don't. This is NOT why cats bring "gifts" to their owners. They are doing just that, bringing a "gift" to the person who feeds them, loves them, and so forth. It's their way of saying "thank you." Who told you that crazy idea anyway?

And they also need to report those people to the local authorities, who should wait a couple of weeks and go to your house to see if you ended up adopting a cat. If you only every tried to adopt a black cat right before Halloween, and you didn't own a cat afterwards, and you never showed an inclination to own a cat later, you need seriously to go on some kind of watch list.
