Did you know that a physicist once made his cat the co-author of his paper because he'd accidentally written "we" instead of "I" throughout his work and couldn't be bothered to change it? Also, believe it or not, the British Government has a position called "Chief Mouser To The Cabinet Office" that can only be assigned to a cat. And although this may not surprise you, a study once proved that cats are more than capable of recognizing their owner's voices, but simply choose to ignore it. Scroll down for more entertaining facts about cats, compiled by Bored Panda. Don't forget to vote for your favorite!

You can also calm cats down by shutting and opening your eyes very slowly while maintaining eye contact, of course. It might be helpful when our furry friend is in stress for some reason.

And they also need to report those people to the local authorities, who should wait a couple of weeks and go to your house to see if you ended up adopting a cat. If you only every tried to adopt a black cat right before Halloween, and you didn't own a cat afterwards, and you never showed an inclination to own a cat later, you need seriously to go on some kind of watch list.

Please don't breed cats for a look. Well mixed genes means healthy cats. If there is 18 links of stray, backyard, runt of the litter, and general fuss-ball I'm happy, as is the cat.

The purr is good for the humans who pet them too! I read somewhere that the frequency of a housecat's purr is roughly the same as a diesel engine (Thank God isn't as loud...)

Declawing is cruel :( For me health and wellbeing of my cat is more important than scratching marks on my furniture or skin... But there are ways to avoid that, so declawing should never take place!

IT IS CRUEL AND BARBARIC!! Any cat can be trained to scratch appropriately. I just takes patience and no scolding. When it starts to scratch on the wrong spot, simply take it to the designated scratch posts/pads and show it what to do. When it begins to scratch, praise it highly and maybe give a treat. Yelling will only frighten the cat who will then, in its panic, not be able to follow your instructions

Except that we don't rely on our fingers for balance, running, jumping and walking like cats do. Toe amputation causes nerve damage, back pain and psychological issues too. Terribly, terribly cruel thing to do and I would never use a vet that does this...ever!

My vet office will not perform any elective non-necessary surgery. No declawing, no cropping. It was a requirement of mine while seeking a vet and was surprisingly easy to find.

I'm guilty, I did not know that is what happened until years later, after I found that out I felt really, really bad. I have not done it since. I did do it because my parents told me he had to go or declaw him. Now I just grin and bear it.

Declawing needs to be banned in the USA, as it is in most developed countries in the world. It is flat out mutilation for the sole purpose of fattening the wallets of vets who do it. If possible, do not use a vet who declaws cats. And let them know why you are pulling your business.

They make caps for cat claws, and once they get used to it, it's fine, and you just need to replace them, and make sure your cat has regular nail trims.

i don't quite get this. is it about taking the whole claw? like... the whole whole of it? that's horrible. i cut my cat's claws only few millimeters, because when we play "fight the hand hiding behind the corner" he cuts very deep. but i can't think of a reason good enough to take away whole nail. he doesn't scratch furniture and he has got strict restrictions what he can do, where he can go(no scratching of furniture obviously, no jumping on the table/counters/settie, no access to bedrooms and bathrooms), though i can't put him off licking the corner of the wall.

No they don't take the claw, they actually amputate the toe. Claws grow back, so they have to remove the first joint of the toe. Sick procedure and vets that do this are not very compassionate but care more about the money.

Lotsa luck with that. Those little caps make great toys. Just ask my cats about it. Keep them trimmed and all will be well.

The only time I would advise declawing your Cat is if they scratch everyone for no reason even then try and I mean try is hard as you can not to declaw them as it leaves them helpless from danger well not helpless 'cos they have teeth but it's better to have the claws (sorry if this didn't make sense )

Fail. If you have a cat that scratch everyone you find the underlying cause or leave the cat alone.

If that's so wrong then why is it acceptable to spay and neuter cats? I'm confused as to why so many ignore this double-standard. That said, I have no plans to declaw any future cats (my two cats were indeed declawed, though that choice was not mine). Please no flaming. I'm actually interested to see how de-sexing surgery is considered different from other surgeries.

Declawing you are simply doing for yourself. Because you don't want the cat scratching your treasured couch. I simply cannot imagine one single good reason for declawing that is more than pure egoism. Plus you have a really long list of side effects, behavioural and health-wise. Spaying/neutering you are on one hand doing for the cat, on the other for the environment. One single female cat can have 12 kittens a year on average. Often there are more, if the cat is older. These kittens can get pregnant when only 4 or 5 months old. With only 4 kittens per litter, a single female cat can have close to 200 kittens in her lifetime. And problably most of those would land in a shelter or be euthanized or become feral and die at a young age after a miserable life.

This is incorrect. There have been at least a dozen species of cats that have gone extinct, even in the last 100 years. Leopard, lion and tiger subspecies have been obliterated by humans.
