It is no secret that the internet is obsessed with cats. Cat fails, mischievous cats, cats in hats, dancing cats, and cats that don’t have to do anything because they’re just too cute.

Yamaneco, a Siberian who lives with his owners in Japan, is another cat worthy of your attention. This fluffy creature has some of the funniest, weirdest, and most relatable facial expressions you’re likely to get from a cat. In the images below, you’ll find 34 of the expressions Yamaneco has shared on Instagram.

No surprise here, but these facial expressions of Yamaneco have received a lot of attention online. The many faces of this cat are exactly the type of content you can easily make memes with or just share with your friends to decide “which face of Yamaneco you are today”. For example, a post on Twitter with a couple of the cat’s expressions recently had over 100K likes and over 20K retweets. People on Instagram keep tagging each other on Yamaneco’s posts and bonding over how amazing this furry fellow is.

Yamaneco was born at the end of July of 2020. Siberian cats like him are usually known for their long and weatherproof fur, as well as strong bodies; however, exceptional face expressions seem to be missing from the breed’s description. These cats are usually said to have kittenish personalities, be cuddly, social, and devoted to their owners.

Bringing it back to their ancestors' times, cats used to spend most of their time alone. With no one around, they didn’t need to develop obvious facial expressions or learn to interpret them, which makes Yamaneco quite exceptional. However, some say that it’s actually not a matter of cats’ expressions, but rather people’s lack of familiarity with them.

Learning to understand your cat better by its facial expressions can be quite an adventure. For example, when they come up to you and slowly blink their eyes, it means they think of you as a trusted friend. On the contrary, if their ears are pulled back and flat against their head, it’s probably best to give them some space as this is a signal of them being agitated.

The ears on a cat are a lot like the tail on a dog...they can tell you sooo much!
