Way back in 2015, a new viral trend popped up. People thought, what would happen if you put a cucumber behind a cat?
Some felines couldn’t care less about the vegetable intrusion, but others leaped high into the air when they saw it. Videos of such encounters were going viral all over the internet back in the day, as people tried to see how their own pets responded to seeing the bright-green vegetable.
However, it seems that in some cases, cats do not mind the said vegetable and quite frankly even like it. One such case was found in Finland where a cat named Mauri formed a special bond with a grocery-store-bought cucumber his owner Heli brought home.
Bored Panda reached out to Heli, Mauri’s owner to find out a little bit more.
“Ever since Mauri was a kitten he has always been very curious about any food I am preparing and usually he gets a taste of some cheese or meats. My usual sandwich has cucumber slices on top of it so eventually, he would be curious about that too and since I know cucumber is safe for cats to consume so I would give him a little bit of it every now and then. I think he likes how crunchy it is, because sometimes Mauri likes to crunch on iceberg lettuce too, but obviously not as much as he loves cucumbers.”

To see if Mauri would respond to any other type of vegetable similar to cucumber, Mauri’s owner had Mauri try and find a cucumber hidden amongst countless courgettes

Mauri was quick to find his favorite vegetable in practically no time as he sniffed around

“I never thought it was weird for him to like cucumbers because we used to have a dog who also loved cucumbers. For me, it was always a normal thing,” shared Heli

“I never thought it was weird for him to like cucumbers because we used to have a dog who also loved cucumbers. For me, it was always a normal thing. Only after I started posting videos of him stealing cucumber from my shopping bag (because I thought it was really funny) I realized that Mauri is a pretty special cat with that cucumber obsession of his.
90% of the time we just chill at home. He lives like a normal house cat. In the summer we love exploring the parks and forests nearby. We also travel by train oftentimes to visit my family who lives a 4-hour train ride away.
Mauri is kind of a small celebrity here in Finland. He has been on national TV and news multiple times and sometimes we get invited to visit local cafe shops with him.”

I thought cats were supposed to be scared of cucumbers not consume them
It's not the cucumber itself, it's that they turn around and find something that wasn't there a moment ago. Any dark blob, especially snake like ones, will potentially do the same thing... scare the poor animal (usually) right after eating. At minimum it can upset their digestion & they can get hurt bolting from it, but it can also errode their trust in you &/or make them nervous, defensive &/or start "marking their territory". It's just mean and even abusive if overdone. And if they scratch you while panicking? It's your own dam fault!
And another upvote from me.
Thanks guys, but don't worry bc I've just picked up a nasty little trolled 🤧 from trying to educate people about how TV and movies have "taught" us wrong because (most) cats are lactose intolerant &/or get dehydrated by cow's milk, causing vomiting, bloating and diarrhea. And that animals' "Survival of the Fittest" mentality means they hide their pain & illness (yep, those mystery stains behind the couch) esp cats, who BURY everything. They have nothing better to do than follow me around to downvote and say mean things 🤷♀️
Jeez. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Well, I will follow you up with antibiotics. And you are right about the milk. Totally.
🙀OMG Angelar🙀 I found out they can click on my name to then click on my comments to follow me around to do it🙉 I'm more Trekkie than Techie & had no idea until recently (I suck@this).
💉Geez, Thanks Angelar💊 I feel better already 😺It started at the "vintage photos of stars with cats" and my "guessing" that it was condensed milk being POURED down a kitten's throat. I guess I reacted badly bc I get defensive if there's even a chance an animal is being harmed in the slightest.
One vote from me too! (I have been going around upvoting some unjust or senseless downvotes and I think I picked up the same troll.)
Well 8yorkies (🙉my ears ring just typing that😹), IF you went to the "Vintage photos of stars w/cats" it could be, that's where I picked it up🤧
(and it's all true too! 8 actual, living breathing and jumping up-and-down from constant joy yorkies at home, and as of today, 82 cats in my stray and abandoned cat shelter!)
Sounds fun, I'm in a "tourist town" & helped catch a Yorkie that wasn't properly secured & then the owners went home w/o her & it was so difficult to take her in, but she could've been a kid's pet or a Service / Therapy Animal so I did 😿/😺
Thank God you were there! I can't imagine how one of my babies would feel all alone in the streets.
Well triple it, 8Yorkies...I live at the Ocean and they lost her 3mo. old little self ON THE BEACH where people DRIVE 🙀😱🙉 But fortunately I train all my animals very well and was able to use my Australian Terrier to attract, direct & calm her.
@8Yorkies-and-63cats - RESPECT!
Thank you!!! 😊
So if it happens at your other comments, I'm sure sorry you caught them from me... apparently they can tap our username to access our comments to act like this 🤦🏼♀️
Idk why you have been downvoted? People are mindless. One vote from me..
Kimi probably just caught my trolled 🤧 by being nice to me about their childishness. Sorry, hope you don't catch it too🙈
😂 I'm fine with catching the trolled 🤧 ooh downvotes on the interwebs 😂 most of them make me laugh.
🙉Me too😹, but what really gets me is when some 🤬people downvote someone just for asking a simple question 😾 Especially when so many do it w/in hours & no one can even reply to answer them☹
He recently had a video on the Dodo channel on YouTube. It’s hilarious. Also, Mauri is very cute. Here's the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzPBJ0SDcCY
Thanks for sharing. That's really cute. 😍
Awww look at this bean! He’s adorable!!!
