Cat Brought Stray Kitten Home And The Family Adopted Him, And Now They’re Inseparable

Interview With Owner

Up until the summer of 2020, Klarieke, the owner of 3 cats, thought that 3 cats would be just enough. After all, with 3 cats, there’s plenty of fluff to go around in the farm house. One of them, Stavros, had been rescued just about a year ago back then. He became the streetwise leader of the trio.

But apparently, Stavros, ginger and white tabby, had his own plans. This last summer, a little stray kitten started scrounging the backyard for food. By the time the family found out about it, Stavros and the little kitten had already become friends. Apparently, Stavros had a soft spot for kittens with a similar history to his.

And then, Stavros, the leader of household’s cat trio, noticed him

Klarieke asked around the neighborhood if somebody was missing a kitten, but no one responded. Meanwhile, the kitten kept coming back to the house and hung around with Stavros, who even gave his own food to him. They clicked from the get-go, and it was clear that they didn’t want to part ways.

He even gave away his own food for him

They have officially taken the kitten in, and gave him a name. It’s Charlie

It dawned on the owner that the cat didn’t have a home. Seeing how Stavros had taken him in, she started feeding the kitten herself, and the little kitten was officially adopted and given a name. His name is now Charlie. From that point onwards, Klarieke’s household had a nice, even number of 4 cats.

It took a few days for Charlie to adjust to life in a loving home. Stavros showed him around and gave a purrfect example of behaving as a house cat. Charlie began to relax, and eventually let the owners snuggle him as he seamlessly shifted into being a lap cat.

Klarieke has given Bored Panda her own account about the lovely duo, and the ‘godfather’ of Charlie. “Stavros is the ‘leader,’ but Charlie doesn’t care about that because we are sure that he really loves Stavros. They are together all the time, outside or inside the house. Charlie is a bit of a messy, but also a very kind soul and loving.”

The house now has an even number of cats: Charlie, Jack, Stavros and Louis

Here’s a little something extra about the cats that stand in the background of the story of the duo, Jack and Louis: “Jack is the oldest and biggest cat, he is 10.5 years old. Super sweet for his own people, terrified by strangers, master of the house. Louis is 8.5 years old and 1.5 years ago, he was in a car accident. We decided to give him the operation and medical care he needed instead of letting him go. Now he is a little bit too slow and grumpy to get playful with Stavros and Charlie. But to his people, he is super sweet and he even lets visitors (even when they are young children) pet him. I adopted them both when they were about 8 weeks old.”

The owner was very modest and positive about the story becoming somewhat viral. “Well, it’s just a happy story about cute cats. I think that’s what people like about it. Tomorrow, there will be another story going viral, so I don’t want to make it bigger than it is. I’m not very special or something, I just couldn’t let the little kitten die.”

With time, Charlie has become a comfortable lap cat

“[Charlie] spends most of his time playing and gets along with the other cats in the house. He became familiar with us and today, he loves to stay in our lap to receive affection. We adopted him so recently and he already receives all the attention and affection that other cats receive. Because he is still a kitten, we are teaching him to do the right things, of course, with the help of Stavros.”

And they lived happily ever after

This is a great story. Charlie is lucky to have such a good friend (and, now brother) in Stavros. Also, good on you for not giving up on Louis after his car accident. Thank you for putting a grin on my face this morning.

Cats... cats will do this to you. We're the servants of two stray cats, who now seem to live in our house. I'm not sure if they're still strays. I hope they'll let us stay here.

i knew a barn cat that did something similar. She had been a drop off. about a year old and pregnant. had to learn fast how to survive. she became the top cat of the barn. males twice her size respected her 8 years later, another drop off. about a year old and pregnant. cat 1 took cat 2 under her wings. basically "girl, i was once where you are. Follow me and ill teach you how to survive and show you how i run this place." cat 2 became 2nd in command.

oh my god so cute-- i have a cat named Bob similar to this. hes a manx mix cat that my parents found one time in the summer before last, literally on the side of the road, in the middle of a forest. we were going through a really hard time then (so bad that we had 9 people living in one camper-- not even a full trailer) but they saw him with his mom, both way to small and skinny. if he stayed with her he would likely have died, and she may have died too trying to take care of him, so they wrapped him in my dads coat and brought him home. we gave him some of the food we made that he would be safe to eat (although that was hard with how young he was) and we named him Bob (named that for lots of reasons-- Cowboy Bob, Silent Bob, bobcats cos hes a minx, and of course Cheddar Bob-- youll get that joke if youve watched 8 Mile)

i have a similar story. one day at my grandpa's/uncle's farm a drop off showed up. she was about a year and and pregnant. She had to learn really quick how to hunt/survive. she was small, but was one of the few that would regularly hunt rats. If you hunt rats, not many other cats will mess with you. fast forward 7 years, and she was the matriarch of the farm. even the tom cats didnt mess with her. Well, another drop off showed up. abt a year old and pregnant. well, cay 1 immediately took cat 2 under her wing. she seemed to say "hey girl. Ive been where you are before. Follow me and I'll show you how i run this place" and cat 2 quickly became 2nd in command

I'm not surprised Charlie and Stavros bonded. They look so much alike in their clear eyed gazes. Really exceptionally beautiful. Many happy years ahead to this loving family, human and feline.
