Kenya-born and New Zealand-based artist Gordon Pembridge has developed a lifelong bond with nature. This connection with Mother Earth is often the main source of inspiration for his impressive wooden vessels that incorporate elements of natural history and portray colorful local wildlife.
Pembridge obtains the majority of his timber from storm-felled trees, and shapes it with a lathe, but the real magic happens when he meticulously hand-carves incredibly detailed wildlife scenes with a high-speed engraver. These often feature flora and fauna from his most beloved places - Africa and Oceania. Finally, Gordon forms fitting color compositions and applies them with an airbrush.

I don't know why, but this one is my Favorit. The powerful pose of this powerful bull and the fragility of the bowl is the perfect symmetry!
The implied sunset/sunrise with the reddish interior is really lovely and makes this one my favorite

The artist's name is Gordon Pembridge. Lived in Kenya until he was 10 then moved to NZ where he lives now. Google his name and you'll find his webpage and public facebook. You have to email to request prices, and many of them go to well known museums so I'm guessing it's a painfully large number. If anyone happens to contact him and finds out, please post the cost for the rest of us!
