Architect Couple Turns Cardboard Boxes Into Stackable Cat Fort, And Here’s How Cats React

We all know that cats love cardboard boxes. This Taiwanese brand called Cat Thing took them to another level by creating a collection with a modern design, where a modular docking system allows to build an awesome city to be set up for felines.

There are numerous mounting options and four customizable “environments”, consisting of bedroom, living room, balcony and ramp. With a minimalist look, the boxes can be stacked to result in a small building and have openings in the most varied geometric shapes, where cats can jump and observe the surroundings.

The material is completely recyclable and made with non-toxic substances to cats. And you do not have to use any tool to build your cat’s city – Cat Thing already comes with fittings.

These are awesome until you look at the shop and work out how much some of these configurations would cost, even before shipping. Then you wonder how difficult it would be to snarf some boxes from the local supermarket and make them for yourself for free…

I followed the link and they're kinda pricey. The current exchange rate is $1 = NT$29. So the setups pictured are about $120 or so. They're not TOTALLY outrageous but yeah. Definitely dampened my enthusiasm. Especially considering the durability of cardboard. I can't see these lasting too long.

It just take 5mins for my cats to destroy it. That's why I can't have a decent funiture. Biting, clawing, jumping, running, and play fighting. My cats have issue.

Mine would run amok in these....unless they decided to play in the box the boxes came in.

Cardboard is like candy for engineers and architects. You can build almost anything from it with boxes you normally find at home.

Those would be delivered in cardboard boxes, right? Well, the kitties would be already having the time of their 9 lives on their own cat castle - while you were sitting in the middle of your room, cracking your head about "how to build a "cardboard cat castle" lol

This is great. My boyfriend and I are architects as well and we tried doing this same thing for his room mate's cat. The cat ignored it for a week and then vomited in it. That was the end of that.

I was surprised not to see a kitty put a paw through the angled box lid with small holes in it. Maybe that just wasn't captured.

You'd think we could make it... But cutting through cardboard is a major pain. I'd rather someone else did it.
