4 Years And 10 000+ Starburst Candy Wrappers Went Into This Dress
I’ve been saving Starburst wrappers diligently (with the help of friends and family) for 4 years to create this dress. After enough were saved I organized them into colors, ironed them, folded them into links, and made candy wrapper chains.
With the use of elastic thread, I was able to sew the links together into a “fabric” to create the dress. My husband and I met when he offered me a pack of Starburst a few years before the project started. As his favorite candy he began to save grocery bags full of wrappers for me… The dress had a nice spot next to the gift table at our wedding almost 2 years ago!

A total of 10 000+ Starburst candy wrappers went into it
After enough were saved I organized them into colors, ironed them, folded them into links, and made candy wrapper chains
This is how it looks from behind
Ironing each wrapper flat before folding
Beginning to sew chains together with elastic thread
By painting underwear elastic to match the colors of the wrappers I was able to seal the edges and insert a zipper
Can’t forget the matching shoes!
Complete with matching candy wrapper bag corsage

Share on FacebookA beautiful creation! Your patience and thoroughness are also admirable. I wish you well in your endeavors.
Thank you :) Each wrapper needed folded about 6 times to make a single link so it was definitely time consuming!
Load More Replies...That's the best 40,000 calories has ever looked. The painted sipper elastic blends in well. What a cool and unique dress. Great design. The top is so formal and the bottom is almost Flintstones like. The fact that Starburst brought you two together in the first place is just perfect.
I agree and billion percent. This young lady has serious skills!!!!!
Load More Replies...The dress looks beautiful! So many colors. I bet it was an excellent excuse to eat more Starbursts.
It's smooth like snake skin, so not super uncomfortable...but heavy!
Load More Replies...For a creation from 'waste' material - this is beautiful on so many levels! It shows how we can create just about anything! Any laundry instructions for this 'keeper?'
"lightly wipe away and dirt with a damp cloth...and pray it never floods!" lol

That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen! You WILL be an incredible and wealthy fashion designer! You are remarkably talented and able!
Now that's patience and it paid off, its a beautiful creation. You are really pretty n you made the dress shine even more. One more thing, who ate all those candies?
Mainly my husband! xD Although I also would bring bags into work and coworkers gladly obliged.
Load More Replies...WOW. Beautiful dress, very creative process. (And it keeps the papers out of the trash or recycling. At least for a while...:)
Haha yep xD the wrappers actually have a wax coating that would protect it from rain to an extent. But I would never wash it!
Load More Replies...This NEEDS to be my prom dress (ik im not even in 8th grade but whatever)
This is so amazingly beautiful. Your dedication is something to be very proud of. Also something to shate for years to come.
this is amazing... very creative, too! how much did you spend on starburst candies?? just wondering :)
I used to collect Starburst wrappers as well, I still have them...maybe she could add some length to the dress?!
Whoops! You either finished about 6 inches too soon or forgot the pants!
That must be pretty heavy, not to mention unwashable... Though maybe Starburst could buy it for their lobby as a reward for all the effort ;-)
That's one amazing beautiful dress, &, you could patent your shoes ! You have the sticktoitiveness (no pun intended) to start your own business.
It took awhile, but I actually do have my own business now! I've adapted paint parties for nursing homes and adult day cares. I also paint with dementia patients as part of my private practice :) The crafting is just a hobby
Load More Replies...Just like those fidget spinners, folding the wrappers gave me something to do while studying for college exams xD This was just the result ;)
