Bridezilla Has 37 Ridiculous Rules For Her Wedding And They Go Viral

We’ve seen a lot of bridezillas on Bored Panda. Like the one who requested her attendees help pay for an overseas soiree at $1,500 per head because that’s what friends are for. Or another who said nobody was allowed to talk to her during the ceremony. The list goes on.

And while we aren’t too happy about using this term in the first place, from time to time some woman shows up and convinces us that we should. At least for her. Such is the case with this very special lady. She compiled a list of 37 (!!!) rules her bridesmaids must follow in order to be included in the wedding party.

As you can imagine, the prospect seems less and less appealing with every point. So it comes as no surprise that the bridesmaids immediately started dropping out.

Image credits: Yuri_Arcurs (not the actual photo)

Michelle Lew, the owner of Lavender Crown Events, a wedding planning company servicing San Jose, Silicon Valley, and the surrounding areas, told Bored Panda that in most cases, the requests for bridesmaids don’t span any further than the bride choosing their dress colors and styles or asking for them to wear matching shoes and accessories (which are often gifted from the bride as a bridesmaids’ gift).

“Other common requests are for help on the big day and assigning tasks such as handing out vendor tips or being the point of contact for a certain vendor (if they don’t hire a coordinator),” Lew said. “Prior to the big day, the usual requests would be attendance or responsibility for the lead-up events like planning a bachelorette party or bridal shower. Of course, the maid/matron of honor has their traditional tasks of supporting the bride the most both during the planning and on the wedding day.”

But of course, there’s a line between making requests and abusing people. “Regardless of how close the bride is to her maids, there should always be an open discussion about what the bride expects help with and who’s happy and has time to assist,” Lisa Burton, aka The Bridal Consultant, who plans affordable and memorable weddings abroad in Greece and Italy, explained to us. “Problems arise when the bride takes her maids for granted. Attending a dress fitting and helping to choose accessories is much more fun than driving around collecting card/stationery samples for the bride because she’s too busy having a manicure.”

Burton said there’s also the case of the reluctant bridesmaid, those appointed due to being a family member (future sister-in-law or niece, for example). “In this case, help may not be as forthcoming and perhaps shouldn’t be expected,” she said.

“I once worked with a bride that sacked her bridesmaid (and uninvited her from the wedding). There were many issues along the way that I wasn’t privy to, but the penultimate event was the bridesmaid’s refusal to attend her last dress fitting and insulting the style of the dress,” Burton recalled.

But if the remaining 6 bridesmaids will stay and participate in the wedding, our lady should still be OK. According to wedding statistics released by online event marketplace EVENTup, today’s brides have an average of 4.5.

Here’s the list

However, radical cases like this one aside, people should be more understanding when it comes to brides and their emotions. “Weddings and the planning process are highly emotional and can be extremely stressful,” Michelle Lew highlighted. “Most brides have either never truly planned a wedding before on their own (inspiration books don’t count!) or they are supported by friends and family with a lot of opinions. In either case, the stress of planning a special event increases tenfold. Most people should certainly be aware of the ‘wedding brain’ as it’s sometimes called and be supportive in high-stress moments or when large decisions are being made.”

Lisa Burton agrees. “I do think the bride should be given some patience and understanding when it comes to their emotions, we only have to imagine ourselves in their shoes and think about how we’d feel,” she said. “If you’ve never been married before, as is the case with many younger bridesmaids, this can be hard to understand. The bride has many tasks to balance.”

According to Burton, self-imposed and external expectations are the main culprits. “Balancing desires and dreams along with the reality of a budget can be tricky. There’s family politics, which we all know is no fun. Researching, meeting, and coordinating numerous suppliers, and these days, this is often alongside holding down a full-time job and maybe even bringing up a young family! It can feel overwhelming.”

No wonder all of this pressure and chaos can get the best of them. Let’s just hope that this particular bride will realize that the people around her are more important than what her wedding will look like in the photos.

I am more worried that six of them actually signed that horrible contract. Are they OK? Should we send in some sort of rescue squad? A sect-deprogrammer?

Absolutely nothing in this “contract” is legally enforceable. That being said, I would take a “thanks but no thanks” response to the “privilege” of being a part of this wedding party. Give me my invitation and I might show up to the wedding, but I’m not going to be party to your insane Bridezilla demands!

In regards to the hidden internet lawyer, you need offer, acceptance, and consideration for a legally valid contract (consideration being something of value). If the bride had paid the bridesmaids, we might have an issue. Even beyond that, a judge might see several of these clauses as unenforceable intrusions into people's personal lives, such as dating people in the wedding. All in all it is a mess and not worth the A4 it is printed on.

What made me want to scream is that the bridesmaids can't intentionally get pregnant between then and the wedding (if I read that bit correctly.) Lady, you have absolutely no say whatsoever in other people's life plans, you cannot ask women and their partners to put their families on hold for an entire year just for your special day. I have got to have misread that because it's so awful

Good for her. I think it's great when people show you exactly who they are and tell you what misery your life will be for being involved with them. There's no surprises then. Still can't understand how she found six women to deal with that. Can't understand why anyone would marry her either.

Two of my biggest issues with this list is one the hair color. I am hoping to god everyone is a natural raven haired or brunette beauty because if she has any friends with blonde or red hair that would be absolutely horrible thing to enforce on them. Like seriously WTF. And the other thing is her caveat that you can't be upset if the bride basically bosses your around and treats you like sh*t because you are agreed to it? No one treats me like that. Not even a good friend. I've only been in two weddings because I learned very quickly being part of the wedding party is a nightmare and both weddings I had to very kindly check the bride. "I love you, you're my best friend but you need to take it down a few notches because the way you're speaking and treating me is really ugly." Both of them had the light bulb moment and it was fine. I get that wedding planning is long and stressful but that does not give you carte blanche to act any way you want.

My hair is silver/white. It happens when you live long enough. I'll be damned if I am going to dye it for someone else's "special day". It took me like 3 years for my (new) natural hair color to grow out.

I'm thinking that if this is how she's going to be with members of the wedding party, if I were the groom I would run as fast as I could away from her. This girl has issues. She's basically asking them to submit to her for the next 14 months. Big NOPE! No thanks you! I'm out!

Once again I am immensely grateful to my cousin and BFF who was the opposite of everything here. Her bridal party was her younger sister, married sister and sisters in law, and her baby nieces. (Just family and maybe one close friend is traditional in our circles.) I remember them all wearing similar colours but that's about it. And her friend group had a tradition that all the bride's classmates and close friends wore navy. (I believe this was started by another one of the group to include all her friends as honourary bridesmaids without requiring them to go out of their way.) She offered me the option of joining that tradition, entirely my choice and since I needed a new dress anyway... I think it's a beautiful way to have a large group of bridesmaids and include all of your close friends without inconveniencing them or having a gigantic "formal" wedding party. And you could wear the same dress every wedding! Whoever first suggested the idea was genius.

She sounds very very insecure to me. A lot of these are listed so that the bridesmaids don't outdo her or take any attention away from her. Many people who want all the attention are insecure, but this is extreme. Nope for wedding and nope for friendship. I wonder if she had a minimum amount for gifts. Like "no gifts under $300" or something similar

She'll complain that she has no one to attend the wedding and wonder why? I broke rule 11 at an ex friend's wedding. After we were told I couldn't conceive, we did much to our delight. Only found out the week before the wedding. The ex friend asked why I couldn't just lose the baby and try again after her wedding. She still can't work out why I won't talk to her.

I would have noped out the second a friend or family member even mentioned a contact existing! Why is this even a thing anymore? Statistically most of these elaborate weddings end in divorce anyway. I've been married 20 years and my best advice is have a very small wedding and save your money. Most arguments among married couples is about money so set yourselves up right at beginning by not spending 10k on an expensive ceremony.

I think there's a loophole. While a bridesmaid can't make any advances towards males I don't see anything about females or just being passive in regards to the males. the parts about wearing a hair colour and purchasing a hairstyle made me lmfao. Also I would genuinely sign the contract, but not with my name, with the words 'f off you bridezilla, I hope you change your name to Karen Biatch'. Only I would say the whole word, not just f

I read this convinced it must be a joke. There is no way anyone would make these kind of demands on their friends and family, but then I searched "bridezilla" and got so many hits I am convinced it's a real thing. Honestly, if my sister asked me to do this for her wedding, I would still say no. No, I will gain or lose more than 3 kilos in the next 14 months if I choose, I will not dye my hair nor seek your approval for anything that I choose to wear, except for the ceremony itself, when I will wear the dress, shoes and accessories the bride has chosen and paid for. What I wear to the reception and bachelorette party is my business, and why, exactly, do I have to buy a bachelorette party tee shirt?

Complex indeed. Every other royal wedding has been been a relaxed affair with none of this complex protocol crap like getting the Queen's approval for the marriage and the wedding dress, and what not. You can see the glaring differences here: https://www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/g20527984/meghan-markle-prince-harry-kate-middleton-prince-william-royal-wedding-differences-comparison/

I've been married 20 years and my best advice is have a very small wedding and save your money. Most arguments among married couples is about money so set yourselves up right at beginning by not spending 10k on an expensive ceremony.

Why does she have bridesmaids in the first place?? So many countries have wonderful weddings without all these identically dressed peole in their pictures. If you are worried about not standing out in a crowd, just stand alone. It works really well for the rest of the world

The only one who can demand me is my cat. What kind of bs is this. If someone gives me this, that would be the last day you hear or see me. Those are not my type of friends. Even if they are childhood friends I would drop them right off.

Dye my hair (and i paid good money for my purple ombre), make sure i stay within the 3kg weight limit, not get pregnant, find babysitter etc... nope and nope. She wants to control your life for a year for a 1 day wedding? 365 days vs 1 day... not gonna happen. Guess we won't be friends anymore.

First two points make sense and should be an unwritten rule, but the rest wth

The only "rule" we had for our wedding was "please come and enjoy it." It went quite smoothly and no one was stressed or upset.

With some friends you don't need enemies and this woman would never be a friend of mine

#38: You may NOT let my fiancé out of a self- induced coma before MY wedding. You will not mention his name, and if he is a corpse, he will be out fitted in a bespoken Tuxedo from Savile Row, UK. And in case you forget I'm The Center Of The Known Universe, I've arranged Exclusive asteroid's to destroy you.

These are just rules for one day for her bridal party. I feel sorry for the poor sucker who is marrying her and will have to put up with rules for the rest of his life!

the parts about wearing a hair colour and purchasing a hairstyle made me lmfao. Also I would genuinely sign the contract, but not with my name, with the words 'f off you bridezilla, I hope you change your name to Karen Biatch'. Only I would say the whole word, not just f

I actually wish my friend would have given me this so I could decline at that point instead of ruining our friendship with having these rules later. True story. Actually happened to me.

The fact that she says you can be replaced shows how much she really cares about you. You’re just an accessory to her wedding.

I can honestly say I will never be faced with such a contract since I would never be friends with someone so high maintenance

Would not attend because of this attitude even if she was literally *dying* and this wedding was her last wish, how date you police when people can or can't get pregnant or their hair colour because of your dumb wedding?

15I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it. The potential with this is endless. Here’s what I do...______________ Www.WorkJoin1.com

I'd follow every single rule until the reception, then I'd get drunk off my ass and give someone a lap dance. Modern problems require modern solutions. Also, what the f**k is an "American" nail? Am I just an uncultured swine?

IF I WERE THE GROOM, I WOULD LOOK AT HOW DICTATORIAL SHE IS BEING TOWARD HER WEDDING PARTY AND RUN FOR THE HILLS AFTER I TOOK BACK THE RING! I WOULD HAVE SAID THANKS BUT NO THANKS1 Her demands amount to nothing but usery. NO real friend would make such demands of her friends. EVER! Unless she doesn't care that they aren't friends after the nuptials.
