Deciding on a wedding dress can be a difficult task for a bride. Most try on between four and seven gowns before they decide on the perfect one, but in some cases, it can take dozens before a bride is satisfied. They usually have an idea of what they’re looking for though: the style, the shape, the length of the sleeves, how much lace and how many sequins they can handle, how long the train is, and oh yeah, the color. In many western countries, brides choose to wear white on their special day, but who says that’s a requirement?
One bride shared on Reddit that she actually decided to mix up the color palette at her wedding after her soon to be mother-in-law insisted on wearing white. I was thinking the exact same. I would love to see the pictures. Bride is a freaking genius! And I bet it was beautiful. Hubby tried to reason with his mother but as some know it doesn't matter for some theyb will what they want damn the consequences. And boy oh boy how I love the consequences this MIL got. Aunt needs to pipe down and take MIL on a month long vacation and see what they deal with.

I'd wear a firetruck red dress just to stand out like a flippin beacon! MIL can do one!

Yes. White is the color of mourning in some of those cultures.

Red is used in India as well as in China - Indian wedding saris can have white, but red and gold, lots of gold, are more important.

I can't remember for sure now, but I'm pretty sure my cousin wore a red dress (could have been black..... it's been over 20yrs lol). It was her second marriage so she didn't want to stay "traditional"
I believe many Polish girls have been known to wear red, depending on their fathers "standing" in society.
It was 1840 when Queen Victoria made white wedding dresses popular fashion. Bring back colorful wedding dresses. I don't even look good in all white, dark colors suit me better.
Before that women often were married in black ;) as they just used their best Sunday dress, and that was often black. White was to show you can afford a dress just for the day.

I've heard that red is the traditional bridal color in China, because red represents energy/happiness. No idea if that's actually true, though.
Chinese hold red as auspicious color, hence a lot red color items during CNY and wedding. The traditional Chinese wedding gown is actually red and is pretty, you can google it.
My daughter and SIL had a City Hall (legal bits) ceremony for 12 people in 2021 and she wore a red 50s retro dress, and carried a blue and yellow origami bouquet which she made during lockdowns. This was going to be followed the next day by an all out humanist ceremony. Covid meant that the humanist ceremony was this year and they went with the white dress, bridesmaids, flower girl thing.
Actually a friend of mine decided that since she + her then fiance had been living together for over 3 years prior to getting married, that a white wedding dress didn't feel right. She decided to have the most amazing gown ever designed. It was a brilliant red colour, with delicate threads of gold strands embossed on the bodice + with a few symbolic designs sprinkled here + there on the back of the gown - on the fall of the skirt part of the gown. Her bridesmaids wore gold dresses with black accessories. The groom wore a black tuxedo with a vest made from the red material + with some specially designed symbols on the front of the vest in gold threads. The men's party wore black with red vests + gold bow ties + cumbersome's. It was truly enriching to watch them all together. Vibrant. Elegant. Stunning. Daring. Yet still very traditional. I've never forgotten her gown. That was back in 1997. When I married in 1990, I wore white + my bridesmaids all wore long red gowns

I've heard that wearing red on a wedding means that you've slept with the groom so a great choice for a brides dress. Obviously it's all a load of nonsense, but still a bit funny.
