Definitely not "middle class"... but people are allowed to party however they chose/whatever way they can afford. The spectacle isn't what makes a wedding and the cousin needs to realize that. Making the op feel bad for her own happiness isn't cool.

I don't understand comments like yours. I don't believe she said she was middle class. I went back and read it. She says he came from a huge middle class family, but that she and her husband's careers are doing very well. I think the implication is that between the huge family with disposable income, and her finances, they were able to afford something more grand. In my area, 100k is middle class household income. If both persons have middle class families, with good careers (let's say their personal household income is $150k, as 5 year salaried software dev) then there's no reason to think they are lying, or delusional. I think people's perspectives are skewed about what people can afford with even a $10k jump in income.

Was it supposed to be middle class? I just read that she came from a pool background and her husband from a middle class background (family), and now they had both done well for themselves with jobs that paid well, and she wanted to spend her money on a great party for both sides of their family.
