Instead Of Serving Vegan Food At Their Wedding Party, This Couple Banned Meat-Eating Friends And Family From Attending It
The internet is awash with tales of the Bridezilla, that curious and fascinating phenomenon that can turn otherwise kind and rational brides-to-be into selfish and entitled beasts. However, this story, first posted on subreddit r/insanepeoplefacebook, got even more than the usual attention as it combines the bridezilla with another internet favorite: the militant vegan.

The post sparked an intense debate, opening up interesting questions of tolerance, choice and etiquette at weddings. Of course, it is entirely up to the bride and groom how they choose to celebrate their wedding, and the guests that they invite. But wouldn’t this be a great chance to show the ‘murderers’ that an all-vegan wedding can be as beautiful and fulfilling as any other? Speaking to well-known wedding website Martha Stewart Weddings, Michelle Cehn, PETA member and founder of World of Vegan, explained how to successfully pull off a vegan wedding without alienating non-vegan guests.
“While it’s always important to consider your guests’ comfort when planning an event, most people understand that a wedding is the bride and groom’s special day,” Cehn said. “Most vegan couples see their wedding as a chance to wow their guests, many of whom may be unfamiliar with the wide variety of vegan fare. They want their family and friends to enjoy the great food and walk away saying, ‘That was delicious. I can’t believe it was all vegan!’”
Having had a successful vegan wedding herself, Cehn believes that one of the most important points is to give the guests a clear heads up of what to expect. “You can let guests know in advance that the food will be vegan or simply place ‘vegan’ labels by the food on the reception tables,” she suggests.
“Instead of wedding gifts, you can ask your guests to donate to animal-related charities, such as PETA or a farmed-animal sanctuary,” she advises. “Or you can donate a portion of the monetary wedding gifts to charities that you support. Another fun idea is to plan a trip to an animal sanctuary in lieu of a bachelor or bachelorette party.”
“Rather than giving traditional wedding favors, why not present your guests with a gift that will help save animals? For example, PETA offers wedding favor cards that you can place by table settings at your reception to let guests know that a donation has been made in their honor. Also, be sure to send guests home with a little treat, such as a gourmet vegan chocolate bar or a bag of heart-shaped seed paper confetti, which they can plant at home to grow wildflowers.”
Plenty of better ways that this misguided bride could’ve gone about it, although it is important to note that she is only 20 years old so her naivety can be slightly excused. Upon finding that even her fellow vegans were not supporting her harsh stance, she added a short update later on.
Apparently, she had invited the whole family but decided to un-invite them, including her mother because they decided they wanted a full-vegan wedding. And that included the guest-list. “Her family were happy to be vegan for the day or weekend,” one former guest wrote. “But that wasn’t good enough. Either they have a life-long commitment to being vegan or they ain’t s**t to her.”
As the discussion moved on we got further updates. “Not only are we no longer a bridesmaid, we are also toxic and bad people who she no longer wants in her life,” one former bridesmaid fumed. “She’s now making us out to be the biggest liars. Literally, none of her family have bullied her for being vegan, it’s all in her delusional head. All this because we refuse to make the vegan lifelong commitment.”

Of course, this is an extreme example and vegan weddings are becoming more and more common, there’s a good chance you’ll be invited to one yourself one day! Bored Panda spoke to Being Vegan, a fun and informative Facebook page that celebrates the vegan lifestyle, who believes that inclusivity is always for the best. “First of all, try not to refer to it as a ‘vegan’ wedding and focus on the union of the couple,” they said. “Plus, if the guests are friends and family and truly love and respect the couple they won’t care.”
“Of course, it’s better if everyone is invited. With a mentality of ‘vegans only,’ vital family members like grandparents and even parents might be excluded. Invite everyone! It’s not like your forcing everyone to become vegan against their will. Plus I’ve been to family weddings where my wife and I had to bring our own food because the caterers sucked! Haha but we still had a great time.”
People had plenty to say about the vegan wedding drama

Share on FacebookI strongly dislike this post. Not just because the bride is insane but also cause this seems like it is promoting PETA. PETA is S**T! Donating anything to them is just putting money in their pockets, it's not saving any animals at all. They kill somthing like 97,5% of all pets they get their hands on.
Yeah, if you want to donate to shelters there are much better ones.
Load More Replies...... Why is this post recommending donating to PETA? Hell, hasn't BoredPanda even posted before about some of the bullcrap that PETA pulls? Don't donate to PETA, donate to an organization that actually helps animals, like the ASPCA.
PETA is just a disgrace. They have been caught stealing people's pets during disasters, like hurricanes, and killing them. They think all pit and pit-mix dogs need wiped off the face of the planet. Pits/mixes are great dogs. By the way, I hope psycho bride didn't/doesn't wear leather shoes.
Load More Replies...I don't think vegan enters into it...when you think about it, she's just a jerk. If she wasn't a vegan, she'd still be a jerk.
Load More Replies...On the up side, her wedding just got a whole lot cheaper! She and future hubby can sit alone by candle light, splitting a single vegan cupcake.
Cheaper for her family too, i can't give a gift if im not 100% sure no animals were harmed during or because if its manufactur. My greasy, burger- fed fingers might transfer the blood of my guilt to a check, too, so.....
Load More Replies...LOL!!!! "Michelle Cehn, PETA member and founder of World of Vegan" advises: "Instead of wedding gifts, you can ask your guests to donate to animal-related charities, such as PETA or a farmed-animal sanctuary,” So she is totally oblivious of the fact that Peta kills thousands of healthy animals per year? Is that a side effect of being vegan?
As long as no one is eating them or using their skins it's fine? They literally want to eliminate all domesticated animals, that is their goal.
Load More Replies...As a hard-line vegan, i even find this ridiculous and i can be pretty uptight when it comes to eating meat, i'm from an Italian family who all eat meat except me and my sister and we had all the usual misunderstood, misdirected meat eater b******t but that doesn't mean i want to cut ties with them, they are my family, their not perfect but who is.
This is absolutely hilarious! If I was uninvited from a wedding because I eat meat I would laugh my head off! I hope this woman never gets a cat or a dog because the weight on her soul would be too much to handle. LOL
Instead she’d feed the animals vegan food (like that woman with the Fenwick Fox) stating, animals don’t need to eat other animals, they don’t know any better and need to be educated that killing another animal is totally and utterly wrong. Therefore slowly killing a meat eatng creature with vegetables grown out back.
Load More Replies...Don´t ban them. Just serve all vegan food. You can win some new vegetarians/vegans if the catering is good enough. This way, it just alienate you from your relatives/friends. You´ll became MySpace. Remember MySpace? Few people does and cares.
That’s what I’m doing at my wedding. It’s entirely vegan I’m not even mentioning it to people because it doesn’t matter. It’s my wedding, I pick the food. I don’t know anyone that will care, most probably won’t even notice.
Load More Replies...How can you tell if somebody isn't a vegan? Say the word to them and watch them get triggered.
Load More Replies...I'm not a vegan but everytime someone eats a piece of meat it's one animal killed. When you purchase meat, that money goes to those companies that torture animals and it's like we're supporting them since we fill up their pockets. That's why I understand why vegans want to project their beliefs on us. Also, if you say you love animals yet you eat some it makes you kind of a hypocrite. That's where people need to stop here and think a little bit more about it.
If you know and understand this, why aren't you vegan???
Load More Replies...I would love to attend a vegan wedding. It would be a great opportunity for vegans to show me all the wonderful vegan choices there are. I bet there’s a lot of terrific dishes I would enjoy, this decreasing my meat consumption. And I am sure I would learn from the guests about other vegan products from shoes to makeup! I think the bride is missing an opportunity to show everybody some great things they would enjoy and could potentially start them down the path. This way, she's not only damaged her relationships she's given people additional reason to disregard veganism and vegetarianism.
The person in the post probably isn’t even vegan. Probably just someone who hates vegans. If you plan on being in the Caribbean next spring, you can come to my vegan wedding.
Load More Replies...It's wrong to call these articles "Bridezilla". The grooms are just as responsible. The hen-pecked male is a popular myth.
WTF? Calling non-vegans murderers??? Hope they never talk to this lady again. She needs help.
I'm fine with vegans until they start acting like this. You live your life how you want, but don't "punish" me for living life how I want...it is literally my God given right to eat meat, lol.
Your god given right to eat meat?, animals don't belong to humans anymore than black people belong to white people or women belong to men. Nothing to with god but if it was, surely animals are god's creations so how can you put them through suffering to eat them?
Load More Replies...I'm also wondering why this post is promoting PETA. They do nothing for animal welfare and either pocket the money donated to them or spend them on insane pointless marketing campaigns. They also kill 97% of the animals in their shelters and they have also taken animals from the street and even stolen people's pets to euthanize. As far as this "bridezilla" (hate this term), as s****y as her reason is to exclude people from her wedding, it's still a very important event that they should celebrate with whomever they choose. She's not wrong, she's just an a*****e.
"Mom, you carried me for nine months, raised me, fed me, clothed me, gave me a roof over my head, made me smile when I was sad, and cared for me when I was hurting. You are the greatest person I know, and the woman I most aspire to be like. But if you think you're coming to my wedding, you can f*****g forget it. Murderer. Murderer. MURDERER! So yeah, the food and the guest list is going to be totally vegan. Sorry, mom. Murderer."
My Aunt is vegan, and instead of excluding us because we are not vegan, she shares and informs us about vegan life, and instead of excluding her because she is vegan, we try to compromise. Last year everything at thanksgiving was vegan, our birthdays started being vegan too. So instead of the Bride excluding "murderers" she could have just made everything vegan.
There is definitely something wrong with this person's priorities and mental process but that aside she just made her entire wedding about food and the focus is completely off of their love and relationship. Most vegans that become vegans for animal rights are deeply empathetic so the fact that she has no regards for the feelings of her family and friends tells me she is probably one of those people that becomes a vegan for attention or because it makes her feel special or superior, that is a bad reason to become s began but it's a downright atrocious reason to alienate the people who have loved you unconditionally since you were born. My opinion is this person is a self-centered attention seeking best with an inferiority complex.
You aren't just trying to "educate" people, you're trying to browbeat people into believing what you believe. Would you treat people this way who have different religious beliefs than you? It sounds to me like you have your priorities screwed up if you're putting this ahead of your love for your family, but that's just my opinion. And btw, a fellow Facebook poster (vegan) who I barely knew mentioned that seeing pictures of turkey on Thanksgiving etc were very upsetting to her. I thought about it and stopped posting pictures like that, she was very persuasive. You were not, you just sound like an unreasonable, unlikable person.
Ultimate vegan lesson to family :Make a Amazing weeding with a lot of delicious vegan food. Family will realize that vegan is possible.
Such a bad child. Why not elope? Were her parents paying for the wedding? If so, I hope they've bowed out of this financial responsibility. I'm more concerned about this couple reproducing. Will they be educated enough to make sure their eventual infant is getting the nutrition to grow their body and brain? That said, there is a trend for omnivores who are going to be attending what they know is a vegan wedding to actively voice their worry about what they will do without meat on the menu. Worrying about one meal!
Wow. That is hard. Although I do understand that there might be reasons why you wouldn't want your family to attend your wedding, the one the bride mentions is sort of freaking me out - you can't force anyone to eat what you tell them. Besides, for reasons I cannot explain in English, I have to eat meat and fish sometimes. It has something to do with a stomach disorder. What she is communicating is making her some sort of fundamentalist which has never been a good thing to be.
I think this site must be subsidized by the dairy industry or something. Omnivores and their cognitive dissonance are in a panic lol.
I think inviting them and serving Vegan food would help them to better understand how good it could be.
Inviting them could give her relatives the oportunity to try vegan food, maybe a couple or more could be convinced it's a better way to go (Me not vegan btw) Either way, same as her diet, it's her choise.
Plants are living things and can even feel emotions, vegans kill these plants and eat them. Killing = murder and they murder plants so they too are murderers. I'm only saying this because she seems like a c*nt that gives veganism a bad name and I would purposely engorge a bacon cheeseburger in front of her just because I'm that extra.
PETA is a terrorist group. There are some sweet farms that rescue abandoned livestock and keep them healthy and happy. Donate to those not PETA. There is some darn good vegan food and rice and beans satisfy my meat craving.
Hey BP, it's a bad look for you promoting PETA, do your research on the company. They think Pokemon supports animal abuse, think drinking milk supports white supremacists and that it causes autism. Do your research before promoting a stupid organisation like PETA. Do you guys do ANY journalism?
I stopped caring about anything they quoted from Michelle Cehn once they added the words PETA member. Bunch of hypocritical animal murders.
My opinion, invite everyone..but if there are people that have constantly harassed you or badgered you about your vegan lifestyle...then don't invite them. It's not about supporting meat eaters, it's about encouraging the people with open minds that may want to go vegan after tasting some awesome foods at your wedding. Use it as a learning experience. Those that give you grief over it..don't waste your time on them. But don't shut off people from your life that still eat meat by their own choice. You may miss an opportunity to help them if they decide to go vegan too. I don't like angry militant vegans that think everyone should convert to veganism immediately..they push away people that are trying to pursue healthy cruelty free eating. They could actually do more harm to the animal industry by convincing people that all vegans are a bunch of nutters.
On a different note: Why do people want their weidding to be the happiest day of their life? A glorious, happy day, yes, but The Happiest? That kinda means that the whole marriage will only go downhill from then on.
I can't understand people liking hens/chickens/ducks etc. and not eating eggs. The fowl is going to lay one whether you eat them or leave them to rot. They will also eat one anothers' too. I kept organic free range hens for years - they will attack one another, break their and others' eggs. If a rat dares to try and eat their food - they'll kill that too. But no matter what - they'll lay eggs - just like women do
It’s because when chickens are bred for egg laying, the males are literally tossed into a grinder at birth, because they’ll never grow to produce eggs. So they just get killed. If a random chicken just walked by me and laid an egg, sure I’d eat it. But that never happens. The only eggs I have access to are ones where chickens were hurt or killed in the process.
Load More Replies...Why would anyone want to be friends with this batsh*t crazy little girl in the first place?
Every think maybe the family was annoyed at them over the vegan stuff because of the 2 years on unwanted education? And wow, such a shock your family wan't too to go to your wedding. Well, you sure showed them. Also. Yikes with all the peta c**p.
"Why don't we ever get invited to things?" Is what she'll be asking after months of dead air from the friends and family she alienated.
while I appreciate many comments thereto, I do not like the attitude of this lady, totally anti-democratic and most of all, coercive, which is what the vegans don't want to for animals, are human beings any different?
I am tired of these extreme vegan/vegetarian people. Whenever I call my friends for a party, if there is the single person is vegetarian I cook them veg dishes almost equal to meat dishes. Still some of them are complains like meat dishes are placed in the same table with veg dishes,.. You should respect other people food choices.
It's extreme people in general. I'm vegetarian and for some reason sooooo many people have s**t a brick when they found out, as if my food choices affect them in any way, shape or form.
Load More Replies...This says much less about veganism than it says about the people calling family and friends "murderers." To me it's a simple situation. Anyone who is toxic enough to do this is too toxic to have a relationship with. End of story.
I have called my family murderers plenty of times for eating meat and we are absolutely fine.
Load More Replies...Alienating people and acting like assailed isn't nice. Humans are animals too. Hope she enjoys having no friends/ family to talk to. Also screw you PETA, hypocritical douche nozzles.
Wow... so itll just be her and her husband then lol . Idk many people who complain about the food at a wedding, it's free so at least I dont . I dont really eat meat, but not a vegetarian or anything. I like pastas more. But long as it tastes good then its whatever
Don't be upset when someone with a better BMI than you do beats the s**t out of you for being an a*****e.
Load More Replies...I have friends that live the vegan lifestyle, and I hope they don't refer to me as a murderer...
They won’t refer to you that way specifically, but rather just an understanding that anyone who eats meat is basically a murderer. It’s not an indictment on you though. Most vegans ate meat at one point in their lives.
Load More Replies...Not sure what to say about this, just bc your family eats meat, you don't invite them? I would never get to go to a wedding if that was a thing.... Its the bacon
I don't care if she is vegan or survives on unicorn farts, but how about it's her wedding and she invites whatever she wants... And who doesn't like a little drama attached :D
Because, generally speaking, being an extremist who tries to force others to conform to your POV is a bad thing.
Load More Replies...But a wedding with fully vegan amazing food will show the non-vegans they still eat great food while being vegan! I can understand why she wouldn't want any non-vegan food at her wedding (I often sit by myself at lunch because I can't bear to sit next to people eating animals - I start thinking about the life those animals had and their death), but this is her chance to show them all the great unhealthy vegan food in the world!
Did you mean healthy there at the end, or perhaps "unhealthy" as in great but decadent? I don't really think you meant unhealthy as in "bad for you" but that is kinda how it reads to me.
Load More Replies...So eating meat is murder. Did the veggies consent to being killed?
To feel pain or give consent you have to be a sentient being, plants do not have a central nervous system or a brain so no they don't need to, animals are living, feeling beings who want to live their life.
Load More Replies...Why would I want to attend the wedding of a crazy woman? I mean, she wouldn't need to ban me; she can't pay me to attend the wedding. And trust me, it's not about the kinds of food she serves.
1.) This article seems like a desperate ad for PETA. They are scumbags, avoid ar all costs. 2.) The bride's posts are only about "me", "I" and "mine". Where is the groom in all this? She doesn't seem to care. Alarm bells ringing.
If I ever get engaged I'm telling my bride to not become a brat when it comes to having a wedding.
Peta have a very bad reputation. This whole idea of meat eaters being murderers is insane. Banning your own family is very mean and nasty if this is vegans for you I'm glad I'm not one
"This whole idea of meat eaters being murderers is insane.". How? You purposely kill a living creature. That's what murder is. You may be fine with it, but please be honest about what it is.
Load More Replies...Why ON EARTH would you promote donating or supporting PETA on this post??? PETA operates high kill "shelters" and are, in general, bat s**t crazy. WTF? There are literally hundreds of other animal sanctuary's you could have plugged. SMH.
Okay, so at a non-vegan couples wedding, no vegan food should be served/no vegans invited? Am I understanding her correctly that she would be fine with it? Or would it be like when those militant vegans go to a non-vegan restaurant and go berserk over the lack of vegan dishes and think something is wrong with me when I ask them how many non-vegan dishes a vegan restaurant have?
At least two. How hard is it to throw together all the ingredients you already use but just don’t add in the meat?
Load More Replies...I hope she gets pregnant and has irresistible cravings for meat. Just because she is behaving so badly.
did they personally kill the animals? you can get eggs and milk without killing the animal, right?
No, you can’t. Eggs require baby male chicks to be killed. Usually they grind them up. The reason is because when farmers want egg laying chickens, they just breed a bunch and murder all the males since they have no monetary value. Milk is more of a grey area, but usually the babies suffer or die in this situation too since the mom is being used to give her milk to humans. If you pay someone to kill someone else, you still go to jail. Same thing.
Load More Replies...Don't judge all vegans based on ONE PERSON! What about all the non-vegan crazy brides out there? Should I say that that is being consistent with non-vegans?
Load More Replies...So I want to know if they eat root vegetables? Because worms, ants, grubs and all sorts of other critters are MURDERED in the process of harvesting their precious "vegan" vegetables. And do they harvest the food themselves and hand carry it to the kitchen to prepare it themselves? Because I cannot tell you how many innocent animals are VICIOUSLY MURDERED by those vegetables transported by fossil fuel vehicles and wrapped in ocean destroying plastic. I would NEVER invite these hypocrites to my truly vegan wedding. Which would last a year because everyone would be required to knit outfits from hemp, weave plates from native grasses, and eat only fallen fruit - all from plants grown on site as part of our permaculture initiative. This bridzilla is just a vegan poser.
You don’t even know what veganism is and you’re this upset.

Load More Replies...The bride and groom surely are wearing clothing made by people who eat meat. The venue is probably owned by someone who eats meat. You can't cherry pick outrage.
Load More Replies...Her day isn't going to be stressful at all. The wedding will consist of the bride and groom, the officiant, and maybe three of their friends. It's going to be a LOT cheaper than she thought it would, too. Just think of the money she'll save for the rest of her life, all alone because she can't resist acting like an asshat.
