$120,000-Worth Banana Duct-Taped To A Wall Inspired These 17 Brands To Make Hilarious Ads
Recently, an Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan came under the spotlight for an art piece he made. It wasn't your plain old generic painting or a sculpture. The piece, called "Comedian," featured a real, edible banana taped to a wall. It was a part of an exhibit at Art Basel Miami Beach and was sold for a whopping $120,000. If this didn't make your eyes roll to the back of your skull, another artist David Datuna, recently stunned onlookers by peeling the aforementioned $120,000-worth banana and eating it in front of them completely unapologetically.
If you think that for you, a simple mortal, such pieces of art fly over your head, no need to worry - you're not alone. Thousands and thousands of people online were mocking the art piece and recently, even advertising agencies jumped in on the 'things taped to the wall' wagon, simply because of the sheer absurdity of it. And maybe also because the idea became so recognizable, using such a marketing trick would surely increase their sales. Do you know how hard I work at my lifes work!? And then ppl seriously only want to pay practically 0$ for my art! And then I see this! Who do I have to know to sell my paintings!??
This reminds me of Yoko Onos Art and the story of how she met John Lennon. Basicaly it goes like this, John was at an art gallery and saw a lone apple on a stand. He asked the artist why was this art, and why was it [insert ammount here] $. She said it was a pice you would leave up and let it rot or some s**t, and that was the art, watching life die or something. She was Yoko, and he bought the art.
If they had donated that much money, the money would've been way better spent.
I've seen Cattelan's work before, and I'd swear his "oeuvre" is trolling.
