Branding Cities: I Used City Names To Create Their Logos
139Kviews
I was trying to create a representative banner for a travel agency, and while doing some research I started asking myself how can I creatively represent a city's name with an image.
I started with Bucharest. What best represents the city I live in? How can it be drawn? See results bellow!

The idea itself is good, but I was annoyed by the inconsistency -- sometimes the icon is taken from spelling (e.g. Seatle) while others from pronunciation (e.g. Bu-cha-rest with a car). Chinese and Japanese place name would look interesting if they can put an icon showing the meaning, say Shang-hai with sea icon.
Here is Plovdiv, Bulgaria - P/love/div. There is a global social campaign pLOVEdiv as Plovdiv city has been selected for an European Capital of Culture for 2019 - www.plovediv.bg. Image: http://zdravkoyonchev.com/ Plovdiv-57...2a-png.jpg

HONG KONG
Interesting concept. But I think that the visual can be execute better. For an example, some text are hard to read on top of images.
So innovative
what fonts did you use ? they are great :)
It would be better if you didn't put there the city's real name. It could be a kind of quiz.
I think they chose pretty good the sign for Berlin, since the bear is also the symbol of the city :P

Pretty childish and unfunny. You can do better.

Why does a bra represent Bratislava, the on-off sign London and a cow Moscow or a glass for Glasgow ? What is the point?
Because BRAtislava, LondON, MosCOW and GLAS(S)GOW...
Bratislava-bra(underwear) , London-on , Moscow-cow , Glasgow-glas (glass). Just the part of a city's name sounds like something else. :)
Yes, i understand that, but i dont get the message. She said " and while doing some research I started asking myself how can I creatively represent a city's name with an image. I started with Bucharest. What best represents the city I live in? How can it be drawn? " How" What best represents the city I live in?"/. How does a cow represent Moscow, or a bra- Bratislava. I understand that they have the word within the word but it just seems random, none of the words drawn, even if they are part of the name of the city, represent the city. Just random drawings.
Those are the city names that happen to have a word in them that is easy to make an image out of. Try applying this on Rome, Athens, Madrid, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Beijing, Miami etc. It just so happens these 13 where easy for this concept, it happens a lot. That said I would still like it if at least the style was consistent, the font is the same for most but the icons just seem to be ripped off the internet.
