Tired Boy And His Cow Lose Out At Dairy Fair, Fall Asleep And Win The Internet
A 15-year-old boy named Mitchell Miner and his cute cow Audri recently participated in the Iowa State Fair dairy cattle show. Despite their hard work and effort, they finished only fifth out of seven. Feeling exhausted, the duo took a nap, when the boy’s father came in and snapped a cute photo of the boy and adorable dairy cow snuggling side by side.
The picture was shared with the following caption: “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after showing yesterday.” It immediately went viral and gained more than 15,000 likes by the next day.
“I think it’s just when you spend that much time with farm animals, they get really comfortable,” Laura Miner, the boy’s mother, told the Des Moines Register. Both she and her husband grew up on a farm, but now that they live elsewhere, they want their children to connect to their roots. Therefore, the family borrows animals for the summer so that her kids can get a feel for the farm life and human-animal friendships.
“We learned a lot from the farm,” Jeremy Miner, Mitchell’s dad, said. “We have those values instilled in us, and we are trying to do what we can to preserve that.”
As for Audri the napping cow, she will be heading back to the dairy farm once the showings finish in September.

Believe it or not and I just Googled this and I thought it was amazing, cows are generally very intelligent animals who can remember things for a long time. Animal behaviorists have found that cowa interact in socially complex ways, developing friendships over time and sometimes holding grudges against other cows who treat them badly.
Worked with cows for a few months and can attest to that. They have a sense of humor too and will tease you if you're nervous around them.

Its a really cute picture, then you begin to understand that the cow is rented and will go back to a dairy farm where they take their babies away from them so they give milk. Not a happy life...
the dairy and egg industries are ALSO the meat industries. Every glass of milk and bite of cheese is a dead calf and a mourning mother.

"As for Audri the napping cow, she will be heading back to the dairy farm once the showings finish in September...."and soon after will be heading to slaughterhouse....although the photo is good, the reality isn`t so cute for the cows, pigs, chickens and etc....
It's a heifer, so it will likely have a long and pampered life in exchange for getting milked twice a day.

And back to the tiring, tedious life of a milk-giving machine after the showing is done. :-/
Yeah I understand it may be a bit tedious but most dairy cows are very well treated, always fed the best and have it a lot better than the station cattle! Well except maybe Kobe beef then you get bulk massages but ain't live very long!
Load More Replies... Yes, this is precious but what happens to the cow next? The dairy industry is cruel and that poor cow would never know why his friend is no longer there but she must live in a cage and have her babies taken away. I hope he has compassion and keeps the cow so it can know love.
Dairy cows are generally pastured, not kept in "cages." Perhaps you are thinking of chickens. They do look a lot a like.

Great story, but the tv announcer needs to learn how to pronounce words. It may be spelled HEIFER, but it's pronounced HEFFER.
U can soo see the love and bond between the two of them!!! I love this picture

They won a lot of hearts too. This is how a 15 year old boy SHOULD be spending his childhood. This is FAR FAR better for him than hours and days and weeks spent on mindless video games and texting useless dribble all the time. He's a winner in my book no matter what the judges say.

Gotta love those 4H whites, right? And they have to be spotless, too, so the kids sometimes have more than one set. I guess it's a good lesson for the future: if you can keep white clothes clean in a barn, you can do a lot more!

I hope they do not use them for meat, just milk. And also hope they really always caring them and loving.
A buddy of mine has a ranch in Texas where they raise cattle, and they're the friendliest creatures this side of the dogs. It's hard not to get attached to them, and to the pigs as well. We have to warn the children not to get too attached, because one day, Bessie is going to be on the table.
