They say there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’. But some people are selfish, shortsighted, and seem keen to ruin everyone’s day for their own pleasure or gain. Naturally, we call these people jerks. While unpleasant to deal with, your average, run-of-the-mill jerk isn’t usually someone to fear. Not so if they’re your boss.

Good bosses are a godsend, but bad bosses make you pray for divine intervention. Even worse than merely incompetent managers are bosses who love being jerks. Jerk bosses are by far the crème de la crème of all possible types of the species known as jerks.

Bored Panda made this list of the greatest examples of bosses acting like jerks, so you can feel a bit happier about working at your current job, in comparison. So go make yourself some popcorn, grab yourself a drink, and scroll down. Upvote your fave jerk boss stories and let us know if something similar has ever happened to you! Be sure to take a look at Bored Panda’s other stories about jerk bosses, regular everyday jerks, and the vast differences between leaders and bosses.

Your mom probably told you to stay away from jerks when you were a kid. However, when we’re all grown up, we can’t always choose our colleagues (and especially not our bosses), as we choose our friends. I’m sure that at one point or another we’ve all met jerks that made us grit our teeth, put on a fake smile and pretend like everything’s just peachy. When all we really wanted to do was Sparta Kick them into a volcano as a sacrifice to the venerable Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Ohio State University researcher Bennett Tepper explained to the Harvard Business Review that “if your boss is hostile toward you, you are going to be less satisfied with your job, less committed to the work. You are more likely to experience psychological distress. We know that performance suffers; we know that people are less helpful when their boss is hostile toward them.” So far, so good.

“I have found no upside whatsoever to a boss being hostile, even though there is a lay belief out there that if you kind of kick people a little bit, maybe you can get them motivated. We never seem to find evidence of that,” Tepper revealed how aggressive behavior isn’t too great for inspiring folks to work harder.

Tepper and his colleagues checked whether acting aggressively right back at a hostile boss would yield any positive results. Are you ready for the shocking news? No, acting like a jerk to your jerk boss doesn’t create anything of value for you, nor for anyone else. The old adage that two wrongs don’t make a right is absolutely correct. Only, in this case, two jerks don’t make a warm and supportive work environment.

In all 50 states it is illegal for employers to take any part of an employees tip, an employer may only mandate that up to a third of the tip be shared with the bus boys and cleaning staff. If they try to take any of your tip for themselves, you can report them to your local labor board for labor violations, the fines are very high and you can then take them to court after their fine

But oddly enough an employer can require you to give a percentage of your tips to other employees, such as to the bar ... I always found that strange.

Illegal. Tips are "supplementing low wages", I mean $2 hr, when mandatory minimum is $10 or more. It needs to end.

That's when you tip the people at a point when they can hide it. Also, I guess that means the boss has to be paying minimum wage since I thought the law was the employer has to match what employees make if it's equal to less than minimum wage.

Yes. I had always lived & worked as bartender/server in Washington state and all service workers get minimum wage plus tips. I was shocked when i went to Arkansas for year & waited tables there and found that they could pay tipped employees less than minimum wage. It was $2.36 in 2017. I did make well over to make up difference but it definitely was not fair.

Many places in Australia you cannot accept money or gifts etc from patrons or customers. Some cafes, restaurants etc do have tip jars but they get shared out or put towards staff parties, lunches etc. Bit tipping is not common in Australia. The only people I tip are taxi drivers and that’s it.

In countries where the employees are paid a real salary for the work they do, there is no need to tip. In the US, I believe that in many places it is basically the other way around for service staff.

according to some door dash guys, if you tip through the website/app, they'll take your tip out of the delivery fee that would otherwise go to the driver. the best way to get the drivers tips is to let them know you'll be tipping cash.

There was a food delivery company who got called out for doing this;they backed down and employees were now allowed to keep all tips. Note to bosses who try this c**p: When I tip my server 20 or 30% it's because they went out of their way to make sure I had a great meal. I THE CONSUMER WANT THEM TO KEEP EVERY CENT.

Denver had a ramen restaurant opening and one of the new hires posted the company policy on tips to social media -- since employees were being paid $9/hour (over twice the "tipped minimum wage" in this area), all tips would be turned in. The place was mobbed from Day 1, but nobody was leaving tips. The tip policy was reversed and signs posted in all the windows, bathroom, etc. The state Attorney General's office issued a notice to the business owner: continue paying $9 hour for 30 days or defend the decision in court.

How so? All income is taxed? Maybe it’s b******t that they hide and evade, taxes, child support, ect.... Most tipped employees make more then the waged ones who not only pay taxes but their employer does too. Do tipped employees not use everything taxes pay for? So if the dishwasher makes $80, he pays $15 but the waiter makes $250 and pays nothing? That seems right to You?
