They say there’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’. But some people are selfish, shortsighted, and seem keen to ruin everyone’s day for their own pleasure or gain. Naturally, we call these people jerks. While unpleasant to deal with, your average, run-of-the-mill jerk isn’t usually someone to fear. Not so if they’re your boss.

Good bosses are a godsend, but bad bosses make you pray for divine intervention. Even worse than merely incompetent managers are bosses who love being jerks. Jerk bosses are by far the crème de la crème of all possible types of the species known as jerks.

Bored Panda made this list of the greatest examples of bosses acting like jerks, so you can feel a bit happier about working at your current job, in comparison. So go make yourself some popcorn, grab yourself a drink, and scroll down. Upvote your fave jerk boss stories and let us know if something similar has ever happened to you! Be sure to take a look at Bored Panda’s other stories about jerk bosses, regular everyday jerks, and the vast differences between leaders and bosses.

Your mom probably told you to stay away from jerks when you were a kid. However, when we’re all grown up, we can’t always choose our colleagues (and especially not our bosses), as we choose our friends. I’m sure that at one point or another we’ve all met jerks that made us grit our teeth, put on a fake smile and pretend like everything’s just peachy. When all we really wanted to do was Sparta Kick them into a volcano as a sacrifice to the venerable Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Ohio State University researcher Bennett Tepper explained to the Harvard Business Review that “if your boss is hostile toward you, you are going to be less satisfied with your job, less committed to the work. You are more likely to experience psychological distress. We know that performance suffers; we know that people are less helpful when their boss is hostile toward them.” So far, so good.

“I have found no upside whatsoever to a boss being hostile, even though there is a lay belief out there that if you kind of kick people a little bit, maybe you can get them motivated. We never seem to find evidence of that,” Tepper revealed how aggressive behavior isn’t too great for inspiring folks to work harder.

Tepper and his colleagues checked whether acting aggressively right back at a hostile boss would yield any positive results. Are you ready for the shocking news? No, acting like a jerk to your jerk boss doesn’t create anything of value for you, nor for anyone else. The old adage that two wrongs don’t make a right is absolutely correct. Only, in this case, two jerks don’t make a warm and supportive work environment.

Why is it always those types view that matters when it's entirely within their own power to not view it. If something makes you say "I don't want to see that" JUST DONT LOOK AT IT. Unless its something resulting in actual harm or you are completely paralysed, there are methods to not look at it. Turn your head away or use your legs to go somewhere else. In the case of a boss, close your damned door if you don't want to see it.

Having underwear crease your skin is completely normal and just part of having a body with a modest amount of meat on your bones. This is like asking someone to either stop being human or buy a very specific type of underwear that costs more money and the employer won’t pay for it. The employees should notify OSHA

That reminds me: I had a sociopath for a boss at my last job. One of our student workers was overweight. One day my sociopath boss asked me to go observe her “wardrobe malfunction”. She was seated, doing work, and the arms of the chair had pushed her shirt up on the sides a bit. Bare skin was visible, but there was nothing at all wrong. He just didn’t like seeing her body. He told me to “have a talk with her about it” and I said “do you want the office of social equity coming in here to tell you why that’s harassment?” He was taken aback and, rare for him, actually backed off. He later used this as an example of my “insubordination”. I walked off this job in tears from his abuse, twice, and each time the HR people called me back because they needed their dotted “I”s and crossed “t”s. I was encouraged by my fellow staff to defend my legal rights so I consulted my union. My s****y Union was in the pocket of the HR department. I should have just left and never returned the first time.

I'd so much rather see VPL than wonder if the person is wearing underwear at all. Also, depending on the cut and construction of the pants, sometimes a thong lets way too much bumpy cellulite show way too well, in which case the answer is that those pants are not appropriate for work.

I know, I'm a minority here but I agree with him. I'm not a big fan of dresscode and I believe everybody has the right to express his style but... well, in a *workplace* you should look at least a bit professional. Also, it looks really unelegant (and, in my opinion, a bit gross), when you can see somebody's underwear - or, even worse, their intimate parts - under the clothes. It makes me uncomfortable and I believe I am not the only one.

Nope, I'm not taking this. If he wants employees to dress more appropriately he didn't have to shame women. The arguments he expressed are very childish and misogynistic. If he has a problem with the outline of their pants - then don't stare at their bums! I'm sick of men dictating women what to wear. If it is an environment where more modest clothing is required then he could've ask for ALL employees to wear more loose-fit clothing or something. But the fact that this pervert says "it is not sexy" indicates that he wants that change for his own benefit only, so he can stare at uninterruptedly round bottoms - just how he likes them.

1- why are we assuming the boss is male? The marker colors and style suggests it is probably a woman; 2- I think this is a good example of reverse psychology, "please dress more appropriately" little to no effect, "at least wear a thong", no one is going to come in anything tight, ever. And don't pretend you must stare to notice such things, they practically scream in your eyesight.

I think this is actually a good memo. I'm a hetero married woman myself and find it quite gross when I am forced to see someones insecurity as in their bra, underwear or butt shape through their clothes. It is not un-feminist or evil to ask for an un-sexual athmosphere while concentrating on work. I don't want or mean to look at the bodies of others but can't make it un-seen and will glare if weird body parts are at my face by surprise 🤷‍♀️ I bet many men would agree too.
