“I Feel Absolutely Zero Remorse”: Boss Prioritizes ‘Bro Code’ With Sexist Employee Over Female Employee’s Safety, So She Makes Him Lose Everything

From “subtle” comments to overt advances, sexism at work has many faces. And none of them are pretty.
These behaviors create a hostile environment and affect employees’ performance, sense of belonging, mental health, and job satisfaction.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for bosses to miss them and fail to take appropriate action. But in Reddit user SnooPandas3480‘s case, the owner of the gas station she worked at even sided with the creep constantly harassing her.

It got to a point when the woman simply couldn’t take it, so she decided to quit. But that wasn’t enough for her. She wanted retribution.

And after the boss sided with him instead of her, she went for revenge

We got in touch with SnooPandas3480 and she agreed to tell us more about her time at the gas station.

“I applied there with prior knowledge due to my mom having been manager there before it was sold. I needed a job and saw they were hiring,” the Redditor explained to Bored Panda. “[The owner] hired me on the spot.”

“[He] and I never had issues until he hired this man,” she highlighted. “Up until then, only women had been there, and he hadn’t had any male applicants as he kept the staff from the owner previously before the sale. (My mom was in a car accident and had medically retired from working by this time).”

So for the first two years at the gas station, SnooPandas3480 really liked it there. “[The boss was] easily confused and very overwhelmed but he was a very nice man.”

“The employee, though, was one of those macho people who was one of those slick talker types.”

“I was rehired [by the new owners], but I didn’t stay long due to my own medical issues requiring surgery — I stayed for nearly 6 months and had to leave. I hold no ill will with either boss and still see both from time to time. Since then, I no longer worked in that industry since I had my son last year,” the Redditor added.

What happened to her isn’t a standalone example. According to a study by the Pew Research Center, about four in ten working women (42%) in the United States say they have faced discrimination on the job because of their gender.

The survey, which had a nationally representative sample of 4,914 adults, also asked about sexual harassment in a separate question. It found that while similar shares of women and men say sexual harassment is at least a small problem in their workplace (36% versus 35%), women are about three times as likely as men to have experienced it personally while at work (22% versus 7%).

In surveys conducted by other organizations, the share of women reporting personal experiences with sexual harassment has fluctuated, depending in part on how the question was asked. For example, in an ABC News/Washington Post survey, 54% of women said they have received unwanted sexual advances from a man that they felt were inappropriate, whether or not those advances were work-related; 30% said this had happened to them at work, while in an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll, 35% of women said they have personally experienced sexual harassment or abuse from someone in the workplace.

While the misconduct at the gas station was obvious, it can often be difficult to agree on what constitutes sexism and to create an environment where everybody feels free to voice concerns. This issue becomes particularly nuanced in multicultural and hierarchical organizations.

As people reacted to her story, the woman shared a few more details on the whole ordeal

Yeah, this one is a tad sketchy... I don't believe it when people say they work 18 hour days, six days a week for two years straight and are still healthy and alive. Also the last part where the majority of customer followed her and are still following her where ever she works. I am not saying it's fake as such, but hugely blown out of proportion.

She didn't say she was healthy. And as far as customers staying with her, a lot of people are loyal like that.

Lol none of this makes sense. If she was there for only two years, why were all the vendors in her name? Who's name were they in before her? Why would 75% of gas station customers go elsewhere because of an employee? Also how do you know its 75%? Every pro/nuclear/whatever revenge subreddit is full of lies. none of it is ever true.

He doesn't speak English, can't communicate, yet he understood the complaint, and loses his store. Ok. Makes sense.
