They say everyone has their calling, and Lulu the pup proves that it also applies to dogs. The CIA has released a “pupdate” that it had to make the tough decision to drop the 18-month-old labrador from their bomb-sniffing program. The reason? Turns out, Lulu just… wasn’t into it.
“We’re sad to announce that a few weeks into training, Lulu began to show signs that she wasn’t interested in detecting explosive odors,” the CIA wrote. “Sometimes a pup is bored and needs more playtime, sometimes they need a little break, or it’s a minor medical condition a like a food allergy. But for some dogs, like Lulu, it becomes clear that the issue isn’t temporary. Instead, this just isn’t the job they are meant for.”
“When a pup is removed or retires from our K9 program, the handler & their family is given the chance to adopt them and many do.” This was also the case for the pacifist labrador who couldn’t give a tail wag for serving its country. Lulu was adopted by her handler and is now enjoying her days playing with his kids or sniffing out rabbits and squirrels in the backyard. “We’ll miss Lulu, but this was the right decision for her,” the CIA concluded.

People were quick to congratulate Lulu on leaving the CIA
honestly lulu? same. i dont want to sniff bombs for a living either.
Awesome to see they didn't deem Lulu a worthless K9 and just tossed her away, but treated her as a employee. Happy to see she got a caring and loving home :) Each doggo is different and people have to aknowledge that! :)
One of our greyhounds is with us because she hated running. Turns out she's just stubborn and refuses to do what she doesn't want to. She LOVES chasing but only on her terms. She's the best pet.
Yeah, bomb sniffing never pays you enough to make up for all those lost sunny afternoons on the lawn with the chew toy.
Lu you should have a dog named lulu it would be the mini me version of your name :)
Load More Replies...I love that they give the handlers the opportunity to adopt the dogs they have been caring/working With ! Unfortunately many police /army forces have failed and old dogs put down like they mean nothing!
It may be unfortunate, but certain military and law-enforcement K9s have deeply rooted training that would make them unsuitable, or perhaps even dangerous as pets in their later years. It is unfortunate, but the government simply couldn't take on the liability that would put them under.
Load More Replies...Kudos to the CIA for handing their dogs with so much respect. I'm glad to hear that Lulu is in an environment that makes her happy, now.
100s of dogs get kicked out of various jobs every day. Guide dog trainees, police, security. Once dog doesnt perform that is it. But You would be happy to have proper k9 at the airport instead of cuddly buddy hm;)?
They LOVE cute little dogs at airports, especially for searching out agricultural products or people smuggling food. There was a famous little cocker spaniel who used to walk the customs lines in Toronto that no one found scary at all. She was single pawedly responsible for finding more contraband than any of the other dogs. ... She was trained to sit when she smelled anything off, and everyone just assumed she wanted a pet. Little did they know....

Lulu is so adorable. She looks like most innocent dog ever. My dog is interested in sniffing out human crotches only. It works like charms when you have un-invited guests!
Maybe Lulu's calling is inside a home. Being part of a family. That is a big responsibility too!
Lulu you are better off, it seems that playing with bombs just doesn't seem good.
I imagine that for every five Lulu's, who are not suited for the job, there are twenty dogs that'd take our breath away with their skills, aptitude's and training.
If our little pupper also called Lulu was half as good at sniffing out bombs as she is at finding discarded tennis balls on her walks, there probably wouldn't be any problem with hidden bombs ever again lol.
I think she is wonderful and will make a good, very good, companion for anyone. Congratulations Lulu in making sure you want your life not theirs. Happy days
Good for you Lulu showing what life you want and it certainly wasn't theirs. Happy life Lulu enjoy.
Yay Lulu! Survival of the fittest! I hear she was adopted by her trainer.
