Photographer Challenges ‘American Beauty’ Standards With 14 Women Of All Shapes
2.2Mviews
San Francisco-based photographer Carey Fruth has set out to redefine what ‘American beauty’ is with a photo series of the same name that has women of all body types posing in romantic beds of flower petals. Fruth was inspired by a racy scene from the 1999 movie of the same name in which Kevin Spacey fantasized about one of his daughter’s friends.
“By stepping into a fantasy dream girl world and by letting go of that fear, they free themselves up to direct that energy they once wasted on telling themselves that they weren’t good enough to elsewhere in their life,” Fruth told Huffpost.

I really liked this, it was lovely. And these women are incredibly brave. I'm not sure I have the ovaries to do a project like this.
I like how you said "ovaries" as opposed to the conventional "balls" :D
Oddly enough, not the first time I've heard the phrase used in that context. But then, I seem to have a lot of lesbians and feminists in my life, and yeah, they have big. Wonking. Ovaries. of STEEL.
i like it too! :D balls are fragile as opposed to the V :P that thing can give birth! :D so KUDOS to the ovaries comment
I have to sign in with my profile, only for that I really want to say 'I Like Your Comment'!
Ovaries is a new one! But as Betty White once said: “Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.”

Uh, I'm a woman and I didn't understand a thing they said so NO KUDOS TO YOU!!!
It's beautiful but I wish that they show the cellulite and stretch marks too.
Second woman has stretch marks, third has cellulite.
And your point is???
"And?" She said she wished they showed that. They did.
...and?
you girls worry too much.....
This 80 year old all-male believes the photography was beautiful. Typical that all the negative comments derive from envy, jealousy and are typical of the small minded.
No body hair. None. Not one single one of these women seem to be interested in letting their body be. These pictures are not challenging enough. Body hair is still forbidden/seen as unattractive/taboo and the so-called 'beauty' companies are raking in millions as women still feel the 'need' for hair removal.
I see stretchmarks, cellulite, bra scars and normal scars. Enlarge the pictures, or visit your optometrist.
What about body hair?
Look again..they're there
HOW TRUE!!!
I feel like the point of this was to show women naturally, however it still appears as if all their stretch marks and scars have been airbrushed away.
As a fat woman, I know these are Photoshopped because there are no stretch marks or bra grooves.
When you do a nude photoshoot you aren't allowed to wear underwear/jeans/tight fitting clothes for 24-48hours before so there wouldn't be any marks. Not saying they aren't photoshopped but you wouldn't expect to see clothes marks xx
im fat and i have no stretchmarks even after having a baby. butyes it does look like they have been airbrished more than photoshopped id say. theres no imperfections on there skin but you can see one omans stretchmarks quite clearly. they all look fab anyway
As much as it adds to the gloss of the photos to use photoshop, as Im sure they've done, not everyones skin even gets stretch marks. That is apparent after pregnancies, where some women get the marks and others don't.
Thanks I thought I was the only one with bra grooves that stayed on my skin!
You are wrong cause i can see stretch marks on one of the womens.
I can clearly see Stretch Marks on a few of them - and they are beautiful, each and every one of them xx
Artists' models often disrobe an hour or two before they pose. I'm a former art student, and marks like that would be very distracting. We had a heavy woman model for us too.
I tho only me got bra grooves
and they are wearing make-up. so, i don' t think that is the point. i think the point is to show how women who don't necessarily fit the "norm", can still look beautiful. but i would like to take this opportunity to say that women tend to worry way too much about the way they look. i can promise you that there is a man for every one of these women. beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....
I was with you until "there is a man for every one of these women". You make it sound like getting the sexual attention of a man it's the goal of every woman and the proof of her worth. Second, you're assuming they're all straight.
As someone who actually uses Photoshop, that's exactly what I was thinking. Gotta laugh at all these "experts" saying this is legit because they can see a stretch mark... Smh.
You drunk or something ? Ofc they use Photoshop or whatever program to make the skin smoother with texturer and colour etc, what i was pointing out was that Morgan wargner said * there are no stretchmarks or bra groves and she was wrong in one aspect, the woman on the second picture still shows stretchmarks on her stomach and legs, dont try to act smart it only makes yourself look like a fool Martina cause i dont attack anyone i just pointed out the stretchmarks and you had to be defensive and try to personal insult me, you lack respect cause i reffered too the visibel stretchmarks not someones ability too see and use Photoshop mr smartass
And heavily photoshopped
If that's Lady Monster in the second to last pic, hoo BOY has it been p'shopped to death (she has many tattoos, which I've seen during the many Big Burlesque performances she has done).
That second to last photo is a man with a covered penis and wearing a red wig.
Nothing natural about these pictures.
I was in awe of most of these women's flawless skin. Perhaps there's a stretch mark here and there - but no one has moles, freckles, scars? It's rare to see that (I have and I was in awe of that woman!).
You can definitely see stretch marks on some of these, what are you even on about?
No if you look on the second picture you can clearly see stretchmarks on the stomach and thighs of that woman so you are wrong there Shannon.
shes right, you can clearly see stretch marks on the second photo. Not saying the rest/all of them arent photo shopped, because they are, but you can see them. Sometimes photoshop cant get everything out without making them contorted.
Sweetheart, have you ever used photoshop? Do you know how to make one's skin appear smooth? No? Stop attacking those who do. Chances are they know more than you.
I would have liked this a lot more if the models hadn't had "mannequin skin", nary a freckle or flaw. Celebrating the body includes the SKIN WE'RE IN.
Agreed
I am not a hater, but every time someone shows "normal women" or "natural women", there are only photos of fat women with a (very) nice face. I'd say that it will be more "normal" to present ugly faces also. For example, i have a nice and fit body, but a horrible face, and i just look at this kind of photos thinking: ok, so a 200 kg woman is considered to be more beautiful than me. It just seems that most of the people are more comfortable seeing fat bodies than ugly faces.
I'm sorry you consider yourself "ugly." You're right on point with your comment, though. I will say that well- groomed ends up trumping that fickle "beauty" in the end...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Behold. They are only more beautiful with that attitude. ;) I've spent all my life learning to love me for me, I don't have time to teach someone else. You either. You love you. And if ya do, keep on loving!
Good to know I am not the only person who has thought this before. I find it interesting when photographers take amazing photos of beautiful people - to me, that's easy. How about taking photos of people who are not traditionally beautiful - I would be more impressed with amazing photos of those folks than those who are pretty. And there are people who are not considered traditionally beautiful, who are actually photogenic. (And I am saying this as someone who is considered attractive but am really not photogenic.)
...I'm not a "hater" either (some will say the opposite).......but as I scrolled through, I do not think that that all of these women have "a (very) nice face." :/
they are all beautiful women!
None of these photos show body hair of any kind. The media always portrays the female body as hairless and shiny as a newborn baby, which is totally unrealistic.

I have no body hair and honey, Im as real as anyone.
you mean you dont have hair down there lol 😂
Stand up and be proud. The way the " new society " wants the perfect body and shape and everything have gone overboard deluxé. Back in the 90s / and earlier i cant remember people being so obsessed with their look like it is today with the way of social media and "the ideal body" its crazy. So props to them for standing up and dont feel ashamed cause its all natural! Today you barely can order a coffe with a friend in town without dressing up with the latest fashion clothes and make up like you would enter a hollywood fashion show. ( no im not bitter or upset just my opinion and i hope people out there will be happy just because you are you no matter shape or size. )
Really beautiful project but the photographs look like weird, not natural...
like they are not actually laying on a bed of real flowers, right?? Nor have actual flowers on their bodies?
Like no stretch marks, no scars, no bra grooves, no cellulite and perfect contours, like photoshoped like no natural.
Maybe some of you bored pandas need glasses because i see stretchmarks on several of these beautiful women, but thats not even the point...geez
Thats what i said but some people are probably to stupid to understand the message, and they also need glasses cause i can see stretchmarks too on some of them
There are stretch marks and cellulite. I see a scar on one of their bellies. Someone mentioned ugly faces not being here, but these women are all wearing makeup, so who knows? I think the lighting is what makes it look kind of unreal, but this was a remake with the theme of American Beauty. That scene didn't look too natural, either. It does appear there is a little bit of Photoshopping, but it is a beautiful photoset and I think the photographer kept most of their "flaws" in the photos! As a side note, I don't think these ladies are brave. I think they are confident and there shouldn't be anything to be brave about. I think that they don't need others' opinions to make themselves feel acceptable or beautiful. Just my two (or twenty) cents~
And in other news: male beauty standars are perfectly fine the way they are.
Great concept. All of these women are beautiful, each in their own way. Makes me want to go get my leaf blower though!
Leaf blower!! That's hilarious!!!
Not sure what your personal opinion is for beauty standards. From what you posted I think it's safe to assume what your trying to say is that, big girls should have smooth skin and be able to pose like the thin 20 somethings you photographed . Also this has been done many times all over the world. As a professional photographer (www.BetterThanBoudoir.com ) who photographs women for a living, I would suggest better poses and camera angles. I agree that beauty comes in many shapes, sizes and color and I photo shop everything I sell and post. Why you ask? Simple, my clients want to look like they stepped out of a magazine which we all know are 99.9% all photo shopped images. Flip side, if I was doing this challenge I would shoot the images to the best of my ability, using creative lighting, poses and angles to create a raw image, un-edited that would be flattering to the body type. Not lay out a large woman on her back! In my opinion this challenge is a major fail, sorry.
As a professional photographer of 15 years. It really bothers me when people cry PHOTOSHOP! for any image that you can't see stretch marks or bra marks. Any decent photographer worth their salt knows how to light an image properly to highlight a persons perfections and hide their imperfections. And you should not call yourself even an amateur photographer if you don't have the common sense to tell your model to wear loose fitting clothes before a shoot like this to avoid marks from bra straps/pants/socks or whatever else. Now i'm not saying photoshop isn't a great tool, and is used frequently and abused by some, but don't think we stand there unprepared and just say "Oh we can photoshop that out later" That's just plain wrong.
Who said those were imperfections?
One of them looks like a man.
Must they not wear clothes?
Have you ever seen "American Beauty?" You can google the flower petals scene the photographer was referencing.
We all have opinions, and are entitled to them. I won't say any of you are wrong. But, to those of you commenting on how overweight or obese some of the women are...I think you're missing the point of the whole photo shoot. The whole point was to bring awareness to the unrealistic standards of beauty in America and around the world. These standards cause women (starting as girls, nowadays) to feel inferior, not good enough, not thin enough, etc...And leads to things like body dysmorphic disorder, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, etc. While some women are perfectly happy being the size they are; fat, thin, or somewhere in between, there are others who aren't. Either they're too thin and can't gain weight, too fat but have health problems (like PCOS) that make it difficult to lose weight, or they turn to food to mask emotional problems...other women may look perfectly fine to everyone else - may be that "perfect 10"...but I guarantee there's something she hates about her body.
I would have liked this a lot more if these women were actually male hexagons
The "title" promised ALL shapes. All I see are human shapes. Where the rhombus at?!!!!!!!!!?
Good shots glad to see a opening of eyes/minds...now if we deeper into their eyes their true beauty would show from the soul :)
Seriously people, not everyone who is overweight (by industry standards) have stretch marks. Besides dont you realize the "skinny" women you see in magazines are airbrushed? Either way they all look beautiful in my opinion.
Wont that make it a moot point then? "lets send a powerful message! screw beauty standards!" and then proceeds to either find the smoothest skinned woman or end up applying makeup or removing their flaws digitally, meh...
Seriously, what happened to their body hair?
Very brave! I commend these ladies for being that brave.
People are so damn creative!!!
OMG people..........stop the arguing!!!!! Stop the shaming!!!!! We have a President who is destroying this country and he fat shames women.........do you want to be like him? Let's start loving each other for our differences and get the Orange man out of White House.
I was hoping to see a woman with some more muscles as well :( That is my only critizism towards this article (also the airbrushing is one thing...)
Um, why are there no anorexic women on here since there are heavily obese woman.
Not one single one of them have a blemish or a scar on them and not even a single wisp of body hair.
Says, "all shapes," but doesn't include any muscular women. Or am I the only one who noticed that?
I see comments about stretch marks etc... How about BRAVO.. SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL..
Anybody know if these models do any other work? I'm interested in seeing more from the model in the second photo, personally. :)
whoops, double post.
Any idea if these models do any other work? I'm interested in seeing more from the second model, personally. :)
If the point is body positivity and showcasing different body types, why excessively photoshop the images? It defeats the purpose.
Sad that we have to celebrate obesity, but only one of those women was over a certain age. Obesity is something we can do something about, both as individuals and as cultures, but age is something that comes to all of us! So forgive my cynicism, show heavily airbrushed overweight and underweight bodies all you like, heaven forbid you actually show 'old' bodies! :(
k askerosas me lastiman los ojos
k askerosas
If he was so set on challenging the beauty stereotypes, why did he Photoshop the hell out of their skin? Photoshopping and airbrushing are a huge part of what;s wrong with how people perceive themselves and others.
If he was so set on challenging the beauty stereotypes, why did he photoshop their skins to death? Photoshop is a huge part of what's wrong with how people perceive themselves and each other.
It's beautiful and presented well. Bravo to the models and artist. How do I get in on a spread like this?
You can if you try bby😉
Or maybe -- we stop judging women based on their appearance and stop teaching girls that their appearance is their most important attribute.
Beautiful
How 'but we move away from equating appearance with value altogether?! So women can be objectified no matter what they look like, hooray!
Beautiful, each one. I wish I was that brave.
Can you spot the man? There's one! Great article, as a model I think this is fantastic spread.
Loved the pics. But I think the phtpgrapher is trying to trick us - pick no.13 (the one before last) is a picture of a man. And before you start trashing me, just have another good look.
I get the point the photographer is making but what I don't get is the obsession people have about their bodies nowadays. Granted people have always be concerned about how they looked but physical appearances seem to be the focus more than what the person inside is like. I've known 'not-so-attractive' people who honestly became much more beautiful as I got to know them and love them. And I've also seen physically attractive people appear unattractive and even ugly due to their actions and attitudes. But I do understand that it's not possible to capture someone's personality in photos. Only words can do that. Sadly, we seem to be a society that prefers pictures to words.
Beauty indeed comes in all sizes and colors. These photos are awesome!
Kind of pointless.
REAL WOMEN AT LAST IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES THEY ALL LOOK GORGEOUS
i think they are beautiful and yes, as diana watson points out, brave.
...смотрим фото с сыном,ему 13,спрашивает-ты бы так хотела?-отвечаю-да,35 лет тому назад...
Society's ideals are too difficult for ANY of us to live up to. No one should have to try to live up to a Barbie doll, cookie cutter image set forth by a magazine and enforced by the greater public. It'd just be a better world if we could all just allow each other to live our own paths, look how we want, and focus on what's inside-because that's what REALLY matters. Sorry for the length. I'm passionate about this, as you can see. ;)
Liked it and understand the global project. But I would have liked much more diversity. They all have a perfect skin and no hair...
Like it, I can understand the global project but I would have liked much more diversity. They all have perfect skin and no hair.
Poetic Photos.
Wow, Ladies you are beautiful.
As a larger women, I have no stretch marks or cellulite. Only bigger bones & fat.
I like women, ain't no shame in my game. If you have a good attitude and good conversation, we can mix and mingle!
Every female is beautiful in their own way
Nice, nice to see an older lady also.
Great concept and superb photography. Each of the ladies are beautiful and unique. Makes me want to go get my leaf blower!
Good shoot glad to see a opening of the eyes/minds ....now if we could really look into their souls we would could see their real beauty :)
These were artful, flattering towards the women depicted, and pretty amazing actually.
This is very nice. Beautiful women. What defines beauty? What defines us
brave women and insiparational photographer
Folks, just read the purpose for which this was done,do not inventory other people.
Thats what is needed real women who make up the majority, they are all beutiful
:D
There are nice pictures among them.
The artist did a magnificent job of making women of all shapes and sizes gorgeous. Voodoo-shopped or not I'd let the photographer take pictures of me. I'm not photogenic at all.
I wanna do this!!!
The artist did a magnificent job of making women of all shapes and sizes look gorgeous. Voodoo-shop or not I'd let the photographer take pictures of me.
Beautiful photos, but they might have included women with physical defects, scars, moles or birthmarks.
Waude! Tosi hyvän näköisiä otoksia ja hyvän näköisiä malleja! :) Voisin vaikka Rakastua! :)))
Love It... Them.... Y'all Know what I mean.
Brave models, brave photographer! And the stretching marks are there: just look closely to the photos and you'll find'em. It's just the work of a great photographer, not to show your little deffects.
No one person can define what "beauty" is. It's completely subjective. Personally, I don't find fat women beautiful. And I have every right not to: MY definition of beauty is mine, and mine alone. How dare YOU tell ME what I should find beautiful!
Sorry that you are so shallow! Hopefully you never gain an ounce or worse yet have some sort of accident or problem that takes away your "perfection". And you better hope you never lose your hair! Funny how you could be such a shallow person since you have no idea what you may encounter that will change your appearance! You are extremely ignorant!!
There are a few that seem to me to be almost the epitome of American beauty standards.
lifestyle
Awesome! Check out this similar project I'm working on <3 http://www.baby.co.uk/mum_stories/21072015-photos-reveal-i-didnt-know-women-could-look-like-this/

Plus, I think the second to the last woman is a drag queen.
I just love seeing bodies similar to my own presented so beautifully. :)
They are all gorgeous, but Im pretty sure one of them is a guy, anyone? (the one before the last picture )
This comment is hidden. Click here to view.
It is a guy the shape of the weist is not for vigana
The point of it all is as the Title says. "Women of all Shapes". So debating about photo-shopping, stretch marks, bra grooves, cellulite, I think, is a non issue. But they are indeed all gorgeous.
Cuantas formas bonitas..
Second to last is a man
Part of challenging beauty standards is challenging the idea of femininity. Some women have masculine bodies, or even male bodies, and they are just as beautiful as women with large breasts and wide hips.
Ha! I had to scroll up and do a double take on that... You might be right. I know a few drag queens that do the whole "lady" thing better than I ever could.
More!!
This... right here.... needs to turn into a survey! ASAP.
I guess the fact that they are now accepting (sort of) the fact we are all different shapes. When do they start to work on the fact that very very few woman have such beautiful skin? suppose it's a case of "baby steps"
can you say, PHOTOSHOP?
Like i said no matter size and shape they are all strong and individuals to show of their bodys, but its emberassing to read * they are Photoshoped ofc they are freaking Photoshoped almost every picture are, but 99% of the people comment on this post said where are the stretchmarks etc, you apparently need glasses cause the second picture of the dark woman shows stretchmarks on her stomach and upper legs etc, so what does that tell you, maybe they asked the certain individuals if they are okey with the stretchmarks or cellulites? And maybe she was the only woman who said im fine let them be! So stop cry about the stretchmarks or how much they are Photoshoped , the message is clear, be strong and proud no matte size and shape? Hard to understand the message or are some people just dumb ? Anyway great effort by the artist its good In a society in search of perfection
I hear what blomgren182 is saying, turn their beauty into a Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG). Stop Photoshopping and show us the real beauty at any size.
Nice idea but these are still all obviously photoshopped. Not one blemish, wrinkle or ounce of cellulite. Skin is way too smooth and even in all of them.
Can't seem to find any with armpit hair... hmm...
The women posing are all beautiful; from the younger ones to the older ladies, everyone is gorgeous in my eyes.
i loved that there were such a variety of brave BEAUTIFUL women!
You say you're challenging beauty standards but photoshopped each and every one of them. Where are the stretch marks, moles, beauty marks, birth marks, scars? If you want to challenge the beauty standards you have to challenge all of them, not just size.
did not see a pear shaped woman on here but they are all beautiful.
Lovely! But, be real: No makeup, no airbrushing.
Hermoso..
Photoshop ? neaaah that's just a huge flat field of lavender:))
Some nice shaped women, and then some unhealthy morbidly obese ones.
There are many women who are over weight and not unhealthy!! You ignorant fool!!
very positive idea - but I feel that this selection of women isn't greatly representative of the 'average' women. There are large and slim women but no (maybe bar one) with typical everyday women body shape.
I agree. There's a glaring gap in here of women in between slender and obese. It would have been a stronger pictorial essay to have had more women of a medium frame to support the idea of "average' being beautiful. I think as it is, it's making a different statement, which could work harder with the inclusion of more mid-sized average women.
It's funny, how every effort to show women of different shape and size gets critizised? So what If it's a bit photoshoped? The photos are beauriful and The women in them are beautiful. Maybe they don't have any flauss?
While I enjoyed the project, I would have loved to see even more diversity. While diverse body size and race were represented, this leaves out all the lovely women who are different by other means. Every body is a good body.
I am not a hater, but every time someone shows "normal women" or "natural women", there are only photos of fat women with a (very) nice face. I'd say that it will be more "normal" to present ugly faces also. For example, i have a nice and fit body, but a horrible face, and i just look at this kind of photos thinking: ok, so a 200 kg woman is considered to be more beautiful than me... It seems most of the people are more comfortable with fat bodies than ugly faces
i'm sorry for my english and for posting twice
Omg Gorgeous! Maybe different colored flowers to accent skin colors. Make some of the women stand out a bit more. But gorgeous!
I guess I fall into the category of liking the slim white women; although I a free it took a lot of intestinal fortitude to do this; kudos to all
Now for the over 40's, please.
Dayum, I wish my shape were photographed beautifully like that.
I think they all looked rather sexy, exept for one who was looking at the camera with a defiant look on her face. Since true love doesn't see physical things, every one of these ladies is wonderful! I applaud their strength! Well done!!
Beautiful
Nice project. But really BAD photoshopping! They all looked very strange with way to hard shadows!
Mmmm! Wimmin folk!
I think the pictures are beautiful, but it bothers me that no one of the fat girls the artist chose have stretch marks, or any spot of dark skin (which is normal in fat girls because of the friction and etc). It's still an unrealistic beauty standard for me. :(
This was a beautiful project, love the diversity! :D
Finally women of all shapes and sizes and not just one slim or skinny thrown in to shut us up. Fat, slim, skinny, curvy.
Good idea! ;)
Not brave nor the art of photographing naked women Beauty of a woman in her modesty And art to show the beauty that we do not see eyes
Like the intent. The bad Photoshop job bothers me and ruins it.
Well, if you are healthy, you' re pretty anyway. But if you're obese or anorectic, that's an illness, a disorder. I'm sorry, but I'm not into supporting obesity and saying: well girls, this is right, this is pretty, because it isn't. Every shape of woman's body is beautiful, untill it's in the normal, healthy form. So yes, every woman is beautiful, but if she's unhealthy, she doesn't look good. I wish our purpose was make inspiring photoshoots of natural healthy good looking women. I know, that some woman can't have normal ibm because of illness or disorder and I get it. They' re charming and beautiful in another way. But I wish, all the sane women saved the normal, healthy figure. Just said
This would seem to show these women at their loveliest. But to me it still makes plain that some people are more lovely than others. Hooray for everything, but like it or not - hot is hot.
But how is this a challenge if they are all super airbrushed?
?? The only point I see is that almost any woman will take her clothes off for someone with a camera.
Lol no.
Oh look, let's continue to promote the unhealthy lifestyle of being obese by calling it "beautiful." There's nothing beautiful about poor life choices and over-consumption of resources to meet one's ridiculous needs. Quit promoting this nonsense and point out the health issues associated with being over weight, promote healthy living, healthy eating, exercise and moderation. Enough with this shit.
I think the FAT ONES ARE UGLY BEARNAKED !
I don't think you have to be stick thin but obesity is soo dangerous to ones health and the fact that it is basically promoted in todays society is disgusting...
I don't think you need to be stick thin but being obese is terrible for your health and the fact that it is soo highly promoted in todays society is disgusting!!
Liberals have gone bonkers
I do not find fat beautiful!
Made my day! Better than the sports illustrated swim suit edition ;)
Made my day :) Better than sports illustrated swim suit edition
Some of those women need a whole forest to cover them.
I would NEVER do something like this. I have a hard time just putting on my bathing suit and will not be wearing my birthday suit where anyone can see it.
Real American Beauties have stretch marks and cellulite. Wonderful concept but the airbrushing takes away from the photographers goal to show women as they really are.
I think number 13 is a guy
Yet thay have all been photoshopped. Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole excercise
I think it shows how women in our country are overweight. If you would ask them if they were happy with their bodies......I would say over 90% would say no! It's all about their choices and lifestyle!
Kind of ironic that these photos are obviously shopped in some way. Natural beauty, huh.
I didn't see anywhere that said Natural beauty. It's about shapes.
It does matter, though. We shouldnt make being morbidly obese glamorous or beautiful. Its ridiculous. Its not beautiful, its not attractive, its not natural. So dont claim it to be. Lose weight and be healthy. Dont try and force others into thinking thats what beautiful should look like. You dont like being forced to think women should look like toothpicks so why should we keep being force fed the exact opposite? Stop with excuses for a change.
Well..To say people should be happy with and not afraid to show their bodies is one thing, but to feature obese people.. They are not healthy. Same can be said about the skinny anorexia models. But hey, what do I know. "Hot" > healthy, right?
these are beautiful. But they dont look real. These women are so photoshopped, I dont see their real beauty. And thats what id love to see.
i would bang any one of these woman why are people so picky you can find beauty in all of them
Some healthy women, and some unhealthy morbidly obese women.
Them poor flowers.
Ahem diversity ❤️ Each person is beautiful in their own unquie way
Pseudo-intellectual feel good drivel. If everyone is beautiful, then beauty has no meaning. If this were a photo collection of people with dwarfism, would you be saying "Each person is tall in their own unique way"?
I think you somewhat miss the point, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, everything anx everyone is beautiful to someone, as it should be. I happen to think rats are adorable, you may not that doesn't mean they aren't it just means they aren't to you. look up kintsukuroi.
Dave, the problem with that logic is that people with Dwarfism are technically and scientifically not tall. Beauty is subjective. When we say "everyone is beautiful" it doesn't mean YOU HAVE TO BE ATTRACTED to everyone. It just means that everyone is attractive to someone, and to not be attracted to someone doesn't mean making it clear to them that you think they are ugly. It's taking the rigid rubric & objectivity out of what "qualifies" as beautiful.
No one is saying EVERYONE is beautiful. That misses the point of the photographs. It's about the fact that there's not just one type of body that's beautiful. There are ugly thin people and beautiful fat people. Society needs to expand its definition of beauty.
Black women are ugly asf!!! yuck :/
Your personality is ugly asf
Obesity is not attractive it ts unhealthy and causes death. Why is it betrayed as beauty here?
I wish she'd included at least one person who was obviously disabled.
Why does everything have to be so PC? I'm older, I have sags, wrinkles, bags, too many lbs... I really personally don't want to see them on myself, never mind broadcast them to the world. And these pictures were airbrushed too. If I was obese I sure wouldn't want to be naked to the world that's for sure.
Eww
Second to last one is a guy right?
All I saw were numbers...like 12am, 2am, 3am and never again ! I am sure their all wonderful people ! But "Sexy" is not a word I would use for half of them. Being honest.
H,H,P,H,H,H,P,H,H,H,H,H,H,H
No we can objectify every woman in the world? Isn't that wonderful!
Uggghhhhh, some of these look like beached whales. Ugly you can forgive, but a lot of these women are just plain fat. If they want to be considered beautiful, they should stop being lazy and join a gym.
them bitch bat and ugly hell to the nooooo
this just goes to show, how we all discriminate, all the comments are directed at My Plus Size Sisters yet dem skinny gals ain't got a single comment
As woman in her later years this makes me a bit uneasy but I applaud their ability not to hide what God may have given them. They expose nothing and look very brave.
This is the only negative comment I have ever posted, but these photos are totally edited! You are increasing the misogyny toward women.
Haha
i'm sorry to say this everyone but... igotabonerasadadfagd
They're all badly photo shopped...
13 picture is male
the women are beautiful but the real question is, how many were actually photo-shopped? Many of us have strength marks..
It would be best to leave out the obese chicks. .
I'm sorry, I totally missed the challenge to American beauty standards. The standard I see here is that there are endless waves of women who will pose naked, and they all have perfect complections, even the fatties. Every woman I meet is sour, suspicious, has winers in her crows feet, and I really don't want to see her naked.
You get back the kind of energy you give out...
I think most of these women look disgusting.
Fat, ugly
Women are the only ones who get to challenge beauty standards. Men are supposed to accept today's women any which way they come, or else we're body-shaming bigots and haters. And yet women indulge in body-shaming, bigotry, and judgement so offhandedly that no one even seems to notice, including them. If you look on Match.com, the height minimum for men is locked-in at 6,' the minimum salary requirement is usually around $50K, and they expect an undergraduate degree...and many are now requiring men to have tattoos as well. Then there's that race thing. On Facebook women come off like they're bleeding heart liberals out of the Obama Administration. They love EVERYONE! All lives matter! But when it comes to dating, suddenly, they're the Daughters of the KKK. If you're a male with darker skin, you've probably seen it on a dating site. It goes "Not prejudiced, just a preference." So to summarize: In America, 2015, women get to have standards -- and high ones at that -- while men are ex
I know a lot of women on Match.com who don't have those standards about height, salary, education level, and race. you seem to have had a bad experience with online dating, and that's unfortunate, but it's shoddy reasoning to conclude that therefore men are somehow the new oppressed class.
Huu to many chubby?
I think it shows how women in our country are overweight. I think if you were to ask them if they were happy with their bodies. Over 90% would say no! It's all about choices and lifestyle!
I think that 90% you speak of, applies to most women in general, not just your version of "overweight".... I've got skinny/fit friends that have just as many body issues as my thick/curvy/heavy set friends. Body dis-morphic disorder is a real thing.
Instead of flower petals, why don't they pose on a bed of candy wrappers and soda cans? After all, isn't the point to challenge traditional notions of beauty?

We shouldn't be telling these obese women that they're beautiful. They should be told they're unhealthy, fat, and need to do something about it. Just because people want to stuff their faces with junk food and be lazy doesn't mean we need to change what's considered beautiful. They need to change, not us. This is gross!

Obesity isn't healthy. Neither is being severely underweight. Society is full of followers trying to be way too PC these days.... it's not sexy at all.... also, if this pictorial is to embrace all that omen are why do they all have flawless skin?

You are so absolutely right! Fit is sexy. All of us women should do our best to get as fit and healthy as we can and stop encouraging each other to stay fat 'cause it's normal. It's no. And it's not sexy .

Obesitiy is not sexy/nice/beautiful nor acceptable. Obesity is wrong and not cool at all. Now repeat it several times till you realize it properly.
Obesity is not a crime, obesity is not ugly because you decide it, obesity is not a conclusive evidence of being unhealthy. Obese people are just human beings who got the right to love themselves and feel happy. Now repeat it several times till you realize that your opinion is not an undeniable truth and that your hate against obesity reveals your lack of self-confidence.
thumbs up! I'm with you Amélie.
Well said!!!!
Oh well «obese-people-lover»... love really love labels (seriously not). Just a humanity lover if you really want to define myself... maybe that's why I don't understand haters like you. But, like you said, you don't care about these people, so I'm expecting why we have this conversation. So you promote a healthy life style, fine, so go to the gym, eat your vegetables, protest in front of McDonald's restaurants, and stop affirming you know what is better for people, they are old enough to be aware of their own body.
Wow. Well unlike Stella, thumbs down and I'm not with you, Amélie. And please do not reveal any more of those things about me, I might even get anxious or even less self-confident. No one buys that crap so do me a favor and stop with that overly optimistic stuff. I haven't said a thing about them not loving themselves, hell, I don't care. What I DO care about is promotion of a healthy lifestlye and these people do NOT represent it and you'll have to deal with it. My opinion isn't undeniable truth indeed but you (meaning more of you obese-people-lovers or whatever you identify yourself) defending fat people only makes it worse.
Obesity is wrong??? My my, aren't we are judgemental. If you don't like it fine. But these brave women look fabulous..at any shape!
What are you seeking, people's souls? Go take your bad attitude to people who gaf because it's not here.
Obesity is like any other addiction, except it's harder to hide. Imagine what an alcoholic, smoker, or a drug addict would look like if they wore their addiction on the outside.
I agree. it's gross.

Being obese isn't beautiful, being a woman is beautiful. We need to teach our children that being healthy is beautiful, being fit is beautiful. Yes I agree that we are all born different shapes and sizes and that is the beauty of the world but obesity is far from being beautiful.

Why do american people think that being fat is socially acceptable? They should not embrace this condition and be proud of it. And no, the fat won't be beautiful ever. Pop culture these days, make us believe that it's OK to be fat. It's ridiculous. There is only one exception: when you're fat because you have somekind of disorder.
has the thought ever occurred that depression is a disorder
If it is okay to be the society to accept Bruce Jenner to be Caitly, I don't see why not this one. Being overweight/fat can be a disorder that you cannot control. I think that can be accepted but if you hang out at McDonalds everyday, then maybe that is ridiculous.

what's to celebrate about the woman in this group that range from fat to morbidly obese. There is nothing beautiful about weight related disease and I don't understand why anyone would want to promote obesity.
Agree with that !!! I even would say that if it shows women with morbid obesity, then why doesn't he show women with any other handicap (like one leg missing or Down syndrom or anything else ??!).

I nearly threw up after I went through these. How can you find fat beautiful? It's a distortion and disgrace to the human body. It's not natural in order to be beautiful.

Gross.
