Someone Follows Bob Ross’ Tutorial Video In MS Paint, Gets Absolutely Blown Away By What They Created
Bob Ross‘ tutorials can calm your mind and heart. And you don’t need to rob an art supply store to follow these meditative how-to videos, too. Like Ross himself once said, “You can do anything you want to do. This is your world.” Putting his words to the test, Tumblr user mochachild fired up MS Paint and went to work. Later, she couldn’t believe how good the end result she got was. The techniques Ross showed worked wonders on the legendary boredom-killing program. And she wasn’t the only one to think so. After mochachild uploaded her work online, it received over 342K notes on Tumblr.

For those unfamiliar with Bob Ross’ public television show — how dare you! — The Joy of Painting consisted largely of Ross demonstrating the beauty that is landscape painting. Usually, he painted mountains and trees and streams, all the while sharing incredibly zen knowledge through his soothing voice. His videos were part art instruction, part tranquil wisdom, perfect for those who are obsessed with ASMR.
She couldn’t believe how good the end result looked
So someone explained the magic behind it

I'm English and even though I know who he is, we unfortunately didn't have his show over here. I'm only 34 seconds in to the video and I already think he's terrific, he's a joy to watch.
I'm English and my nana had Bob Ross on all the time during the 90s, i mostly watched him when i was feeling ill; he was - and still is - the best medicine when you're not quite yourself! I can't comment on which channel it might have been on, but it was definitely available over here :) Legend. R.I.P. Bob!
Load More Replies...He wasn't the world greatest artist and didn't claim to be. But he was surely the world's greatest art *teacher* for amateurs.
I'm gonna go try this now. Update: Did not work as well as I had hoped. But I'm gonna keep trying. :)
I only got to watch him a few times growing up but he inspired me to get into art. I started painting when I was in High School using acrylics (it's what our school used). I have been painting for 20+ years. I even teach my own Tipsy Painting classes. I was thrilled to recently find his videos on Youtube because I have always wanted to learn how to paint using oils. My first painting was very successful! Love Bob Ross!
Bob Ross, along with Mr. Rogers, is one of the original ASMR artists. Both are calm, relaxing, and literally about nothing and everything at the same time. You can watch and get engrossed or just listen and fall asleep.
...and they were both famously kind. I think they're having such a resurgence now because our (U.S.) culture has become a cesspool of politics. We crave having someone nice to talk to, even if only on video.
Load More Replies...I really enjoy Bob Ross's programs. I watch them when I want to relax from a stressful day. To be honest, I don't know anyone who does not like him. God bless.
this is what it would look like if Georges Seurat followed a Bob Ross tutorial LOL!!
I love the quote that says art isn't talent, it's knowing the different techniques that will make a certain thing look good. My friend thinks she has no talent at drawing. Maybe she just does not know the techniques that will make a certain thing look good.
He doesn't mean artists don't need talent, but that painting is a *skill* that can be learned, not a mysterious gift from God.
Load More Replies...I love how they literally wrote "how" on the painting 😂 the painting is beautiful btw 👍
RIP BOB ROSS Like Julia Child for cooking, Bob Ross is to enabling folks of all ages to learn the enjoyment of Painting. I would watch him when as a kid I would be home due to illness. Thank Heavens for YOU TUBE....most of his painting episodes are all on YT.
The MS Paint version would fit perfectly within an old King's Quest game. Love it!
Such a great antidote to that craziness people spout about how art is stupid, or a waste of time, or how "you'll never be good at it so why bother." This applies to music, too! It applies to all the arts, and just life in general. <3
One of our local Venturer groups has had Bob Ross nights in the past. The kids love it
I've seen all of his videos and they are amazing. The calming positivity and the beauty that comes from such a short time lures me in every time I see one.
I pity people who can only appreciate art if if they see it in some fancy museum. In short, I pity you
