I've recently switched to washable pads and for some reason it's become a family task to sit at the top of the stairs, (in front of the bathroom door), and fold them up and do the press studs so they can go away in the bathroom. Me, my husband and our son who calls them Mama Pads, (he's 7), and has a basic understanding that Mama's hooha bleeds once a month if there's no baby in her belly.

Anything to do with "women's business" is often dismissed by male doctors. I struggled with my blood clotting disorder from the onset of my periods at 14, (bleeding through a super plus tampon and a nighttime pad in under an hour for 10 days at a time), until I finally saw a female consultant gynecologist in my late 20s. Why was I referred? They wanted to know my safest options for delivering my son. I want to get my womb cauterised as we don't want any more children. My other disabilities have worsened considerably in my son's 7 years and he has Autism and other learning difficulties. I keep getting the "if you change your mind on a second one.....". I'm 36 now.

The worst, worst women are the ones who claim that all C-Sectiond are "the easy way out". Er, shut up Karen. My son was delivered 5 weeks early in an emergency C-Section as his heartbeat was dropping and I had pre-eclampsia. I then had post-eclampsia which almost killed me. I was in a coma for 3 days. My son was in NICU on breathing and feeding tubes. We had to stay in the hospital for 2 weeks, I had complications due to my bleeding disorder and an infected scar which lead to a break down and a psych hold, (I was confined to a private room on the post-natal ward). So, no, I was not "too posh to push". These women seem to have some sort of mental "woman league tables", constantly judging others and taking off points because you didn't breastfeed or you bought your kid a Happy Meal or whatever.

My sister is university educated, self-supporting and lives alone in a city an hour away from the rest of us. She is 29 years old. She adores my son but never wanted kids of her own. We all fully respect her decision. The medical profession does not and they refuse to sterilise her as "she might change her mind". She won't and that's absolutely fine, I just wish that she wasn't constantly dismissed as some silly little girl who doesn't know what she wants and will ultimately be left childless and regretful. She won't.

My hubby is so much more squeamish than me when it comes to blood! I have a blood clotting disorder called Von Willebrands and he'd never heard of it until we started going out when I was 18 and he was 20, he just had a vague knowledge that I bled more than normal. I stayed over at his student halls for the first time and I got a small shaving nick on the back of my ankle which I didn't even feel. Blood was gushing out and I left a bloody footprint on his bathroom floor. The poor lad was ready to take me to the hospital. I explained, calmed him down, wiped up the blood and took one of my tablets. He was white as a sheet for a good while afterwards!
