I Made Billboards To Show The Corporate Greed Of Fashion Industries
Caitlyn- the iPhone pricing begins at $699. You are talking about the commemorative IPhone X when you speak of the price beginning at $1000. But let's unpack this. Apple is a company that has sought to play in the premium market only. Much like apparel companies such as Tod's etc they do not compromise the quality of their product. At one point they did attempt to make a phone for the "masses" but lowering quality would turn their product into something disposable...much like those H&M shirts you have spoken of. In addition the phone they produced for the masses was not a huge seller. Also, when you talk about $250 to produce a phone you are talking about a parts list based on volume. But what about the cost of R&D, the marketing, shipping, customer support etc. all of these things go into the price of the product. Again, if labor was paid a living wage all rungs of the economic ladder would benefit and you...would have a better product.

Indeed, supply does come from demand but what drives demand; income levels. What controls income levels; labor. Truth be told if labor demanded a living wage stores like H&M/Forever 21 would have to up the quality of their merchandise, agribusiness would be forced to improve the quality of food, the quality of health care would improve etc, etc.

Thus proving my point. If the t-shirts looked at the time of purchase as they do now surely you would not have purchased them. Apparently at the time of purchase they had some semblance of higher quality. If, however individuals were paid a living wage the "semblance" of quality would be replaced with an actual higher level of quality.

As a nation we have become accustomed to getting goods as cheaply as possible. Of course this leads to the abuse of the laborers who create or harvest these goods. When labor was paid a living wage the idea was to purchase quality items that were preferably American made. As labor wages failed to keep up with the rate of inflation, the desire for cheaper goods took precedence over quality. Goods began to be manufactured in countries with wages that are something we could never imagine. Everyone is aware that wages have not kept pace with rate of inflation and the poverty rate has not been adjusted since the 70's. For this reason our search for quality has disintegrated into a search for items that are disposable but have the look of quality thus giving us the idea that somehow we are not part of an underclass. In reality we should be demanding an accurate living wage to offset the abuse of labor.

I disagree. I find the winning photograph beautiful. Indeed the winning photograph is filled with creativity and incredible skill. I felt as if I could reach out and touch the hide of the animal. My nostrils were filled with the scent of the kill. The kill against the backdrop of the incredible landscape moved me to actual action and isn't that the point of a truly creative and skilled photographer?
