This Adorable Blind And Deaf Dog Comforts Every Foster Pet That His Owner Brings Home And It’s Wholesome
We don’t need to tell you that dogs are wholesome beings because you probably already know that. Yet, they never stop surprising us with their compassion, loyalty, and the joy they bring us. All we have to do to deserve it is to simply be kind and take good care of them. That’s something Sheryl Smith has been doing for years. She made it her duty to rescue abandoned, mistreated and ill animals, nurse them back to health and help them find a loving home. That’s how she met her adorable dog Shiro, a puppy who recently went viral for comforting foster pets that come to his home.

Meet Shiro, a deaf and partially blind puppy who loves helping to comfort foster animals

Shiro was adopted nearly 2 years ago after a long and exhausting search for a forever home. Apparently, the cute dog who is deaf and partially blind was in 2 animal shelters and 12 foster homes. He also has been adopted 4 times just to be returned back.

However, his life has changed once he met Smith. The woman knew how much the deaf dog needed a home so she made the decision to adopt him. “He was a handful but everyone else had given up on him and we weren’t prepared to do that too,” Smith told The Dodo.

Shiro has been abandoned by so many people that it gave him crippling anxiety. “He still to this day cries in the car because he thinks he’s being dropped off somewhere else.”

Despite being a bit of a handful himself, Shiro has helped to take care of other foster pets Smith brought home. The adorable blind dog does his best to comfort the new guests and make them feel welcome up until they leave for their forever homes.

“Just after his rescue, l rescued a pregnant dog who was too sick to care for her pups so Shiro climbed in with them and started cleaning them. He’s done that with every rescue I take in. He will just sit patiently with the feral cats/kittens and bonds so strongly with them, they trust him before they trust me,” Smith explains.

The most recent friend Shiro has made is a tiny kitten named Tiny Tolley. Smith took the cute kitten in after finding out how ill and malnourished she is. Ever since Tiny Tolley entered Shiro’s home, he has never left her side.

Even after the kitty regained her strength, he waits by her crate to comfort her and once Smith puts the kitty on her lap, Shiro comes up to give her a big kiss.

While it took some time for the kitten to stop being scared of new surroundings and a big dog roaming around her, she eventually started to recover and feel better, and Shiro has helped her a lot!

Share on FacebookI love the pictures of him trying his best to comfort the cat. The cat's face in the next picture is priceless.
I wish people could be more like dogs, what an awesome world we would live in.

I wonder how she trained a blind and almost deaf dog. That must be a real challenge.
He must be a white golden retriever and staffordshire terrier mix...soooo incredibly cute!
I have a dog just like this! It's called "Lethal White Syndrome." It's a genetic "malfunction" when breeding a merle coat to another merle coat. About 25% of the little will come out with deaf or blind or deaf and blind pups. I adopted mine when he was 6 months old along with this mother. She ended up being the best friend I ever had. Sadly she died in 2014 - still hurts to think about it. Now her son is approaching 13 years old and still as happy as ever. He is completely deaf, blind in one eye, and limited vision in the other eye. I trained him with touch commands and some hand signals - although his vision has deteriorated so much that he cannot see hand signals anymore. I have never regretted adopting him and his mother. And when he eventually goes, I want another Lethal White.
Thank you Michele so much. I just don't understand "...when breeding a merle coat to another merle coat"; does it mean when they are bred by humans? Do they get this genetic disorder when breeding naturally? if the former is so, more reasons to truly detest greedy, heartless breeders.
Load More Replies...Not to be over-dramatic but i would absolutely die for Shiro.
Do not do that, Hofflens, just adopt a needy animal(s) and give it/them a good home.
Load More Replies...This story made my day, first a terrific person to foster animals in need, then the dog truly an angel sent to help, Bless you for fostering and adopting that special angel !!!
This is why animals are better than most humans. Shiro and his family are heroes in every sense of the word.
I agree with you Candice. I think that the wrong species got superior brains...... which, unfortunately, the vast majority of humans don't use.
Load More Replies...We had a little blind and deaf puppy that came into the clinic where I worked in high school. That was 20 years ago but I still remember him clear as day. I had an instant connection with him and desperately wanted to take him home, especially since his people weren't sure they wanted him after learning about his limitations. If I wasn't still living in my parents' house, I would have scooped him up and never let him go. This pup reminds me of him. I just hope my little guy found a place this loving and safe.
Cat looks as if it just drowned after getting welcome licks from Shiro.
