Australian blogger and loving mother Sophie Cachia decided to do something different for her wedding. Instead of getting married wearing a traditional, white wedding gown, she opted for a stunning black dress, while her husband, Jaryd, wore a maroon dinner jacket with a paisley shirt, black bow tie, and leather pants. The Cachias say that they did it for themselves, but Sophie is even more candid in her explanation:
“The first thing I must state is that my choice had NOTHING to do with the old ‘white wedding dresses are for virgins,’” Cachia told Motherish. “Evidently though, my 18-month-old son Bobby is proof that that boat sailed years ago. I only assume that throughout my experiences and knowledge of our generation that if only virgins wore white, we’d be seeing more of an array of multi-coloured brides.”

Sophie Cachia didn’t want to get married like everyone else
“The thing was though, I never saw myself in those white dresses”
“My choice had NOTHING to do with the old ‘white wedding dresses are for virgins’”
“Black is classic. It looks good on just about everyone. It’s bold, it’s sexy, it’s daring.”
“My now husband suggested I wear black when we first got engaged”
“We don’t do anything by the book”
“We didn’t see the point in doing anything traditional because traditional simply isn’t us”
“Our ‘wedding’ was simply a big party bash, where we served pizza and paella”
“I’ve been completely blown away by the positive response to my gown”
“If I cared about people’s opinions and judgements, I wouldn’t have made such a move in the first place”
But “I didn’t do it for anyone else but myself and Jaryd”
“I simply see it as me wearing exactly what I wanted to on my wedding day, not what I thought I had to wear”

Forget about the dress, look at his pants. that´s what I call taking the risk :D
my grandmothers wedding dress was black - at about 1930. I always found it very special. Bildschirm...de7964.png
Thanks for sharing that with us! When I was little, my mom gave me a black beaded cocktail dress of my great-aunt ('20s style). Of course, I didn't know better and when the beads started falling off, my mom threw it away. Wish I had it still! Is your grandma's dress still around?
Load More Replies...The dress really is stunning and I love it but this is so not that unique. Goth's have been getting married in different coloured dresses and mostly black forever now.
Back in the 19th, early 20th century most wedding dresses used to be black in the rural regions of Southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Anyways she looks absolutely stunning Buck_Seeki...0a8c6c.jpg
I didn't realise the veil would still be white! The bride looks so young compared to the groom in the photo you gave.
Load More Replies...One of my bff's shot the most gorgeous wedding with a black dress! http://offbeatbride.com/south-loop-wedding/
Everyone can wear anything for their wedding. What is the big deal?? I wore a grean-blue wedding dress. White is just nog mx color... Her dress is very beautiful!
Why does it have to big a deal to write a story about it? Is it a bigger deal that a football player didn't want to stand for the national anthem?

https://www.boredpanda.com/my-beautiful-black-wedding/ Check out my wedding out from 2014. My dress was black as well.
Load More Replies...I'm not a fan of black but good for her choosing what she liked.! When I got married, I knew exactly what I wanted so made my own dress - in rich emerald green velvet. I modified a Betsy Johnson pattern and made it floor length too. No bridal bouquet but a corsage with white gardenia and touches of deep yellow and green. Emerald green still is my favourite colour (BTW, their little son is a cutie!)
Whoopdy-do ... why does this make news? It's really not that big of a deal.
I love when people take the time out of their day to comment about how unimportant something was to them...just sayin...
Load More Replies...What i think is a really odd thing: is to make your guests wear same outfits while you are wearing what you want :)sorry, but it is just silly. Everyone should have the freedom to wear whatevee they want and feel comfortable in.
I didn't want a big fancy wedding and had my best friend as my only bridesmaid. I let her wear what she wanted and just asked that it match my emerald green dress. I like that your dress was green-blue!
Load More Replies...Oh my god it doesn't matter what color the dress my mom was married in a purple dress but do you see me raving about it? Jesus
There is no tradition of having a white dress, and it has nothing to do with being a virgin. It is just a fashion fad that stayed for some reason. Before that fad, all colors and patterns were more widely used. Trouble is most people are not very creative. Nice dress though. It is the same way people think a baby in a trolley is easier than having a baby-carrier strapped on your body, when it clearly is the opposite. One day it was fashionable with trolleys, everybody changed and today few consider the option everybody used to do.
Meh, my wife's black dress was better... Also if I knew her wearing a black dress would make the news I would have sent the pictures of our ceremony to some news sites!
My eldest daughter married in black twelve years ago. Her husband was in maroon also. She was also stunning. No one thought anything of it as, given her personality it was not unexpected. I think the groom is daring and more noteworthy in velvet and leather.
wow she looks beautiful :D he looks great too, but im not a fan of the leather pants, jacket is awesome though ;)
I always thought color was up to the bride and groom really. White is not for everyone.
Nice, we did a different wedding too, couple of years ago : http://www.manchevi.net/2014-08-16-105710741072109010731072--mariage--wedding.html :)
Well, white was for virgins, anyway. People have broken THAT tradition (by not being virgins and wearing white).
Lmao, this isn't nearly the first time this has been done. She didn't do anything new.
We did this 30 years ago on Halloween. My wife made her black dress and my 18th century brocade jacket. bblack-57e...67b009.jpg

Black used to be a very common color for wedding dresses. Queen Victoria was the first to wear white at her wedding, white dresses signified wealth, so the rich followed suit and next thing you know white becomes traditional. But his pants are another story. Glad they have one child already because idk if his junk survives that trip.
Calling it now, this dude will be murdered within the next 12 months.
This definitely isn't since new or cool thing. People do this all the time.
The dress is beautiful...the bride is beautiful...the only thing I don't like is the low cut front with her boobs spilling out. Suitable for going to a cocktail party but for the wedding ceremony, something lace in the front would have been nice, JMO of course. She certainly nailed it about how few 'white' wedding dresses there would be, if only virgins wore white..lol. Grooms choice of leggings looked silly, but what the heck...if she didn't mind, we shouldn't..lol.
I am sure many moons ago I was told in a history lesson that most brides wore black until Mary Queen of Scots decided to be different and wore white. Not sure if this is a true fact or not.
I think it's amazing and beautiful! Weddings are suppose to be all about the brides and grooms qualities no matter how crazy everyone thinks it is.
I've seen black wedding dresses done many times. However those women didn't get recognized for some odd reason......I want a black wedding. Then again My lifestyle is more of the dark, Gothic.
I think the dress is gorgeous and you look beautiful in it......????
https://www.boredpanda.com/my-beautiful-black-wedding/ i did a black dress also in 2014! Yall check it out!
Absolutely gorgeous...i love the black...my bff is going to love this when i show it to her..she always said she would do the same for her wedding when it came time...beautiful u did it perfectly
She's gorgeous/he's handsome and they've been together at least 2+ years. Her dress is beautiful. ps I am 73 11/12 years old. I wish them all the happiness in the world.
I love it! (I am 73 11/12 years old) She is gorgeous/he's handsome. They've already been together for at least 2+ years. I wish them the best.
Fantastic!!!! Your wedding.....your rules. I applaud your confidence.
beautiful! for guys it's like "Wear neon! as you long as you have that cleavage" lol
Nothing new there.... I'm a 'Victorian goth' and I got married in black (with a purple bouquet ) my husband was in black with a purple vest and it was on a Friday 13th in the dark! LOL
The dress is beautiful but the bouquets the bridesmaids are holding are not. There is no splash of colour aside from the greenery in their hands.
Go Girl ! You look AMAZING ! and who cares about tradition these days, do what makes you happy
meh, my wife's black dress was a lot better. If I knew we could make the news I would have sent our wedding picture to news sites!
She is beautiful and so is the dress. She's in good shape too for having a 18 month old! <33
??? Having a baby makes you lose your shape? I still had a 26 inch waist at 47 and had three sons. I don't get it.
Load More Replies...Beautiful gown! People should be able to do whatever makes them happy on their special day.
She looks lovely and its a good thing her husband has such gorgeous legs to pull of those leather pants.
bit salty i wish i had a black one too but i also love my pretty princess dress i had for my wedding :3
Brilliant! Love what both of them are wearing! Yes, and f**k the whole "white for virgins" b******t! It is nobody's business what is the status of a woman's vagina, but her own! It shouldn't be highlighted with any colour or tradition!
This will sound a bit rude from me, but just to add up to your comment, it's a well known fact and a normal usual thing nowadays for brides to marry after they made sure their man is the right one, but still wear white wedding dresses anyway, so....
