Photographer Helps Often-Overlooked Black Dogs Get Adopted With Beautiful Portraits
Black dogs can have a tough time getting adopted from shelters – perhaps because low-quality photos don’t do their adorable mugs justice. Guinnevere Shuster, a photographer who works with the Humane Society of Utah, is trying to change that with a beautiful (and remarkably effective) series of portraits taken to show just how lovable black dogs really are.
Shuster (whom we’ve written about before here) says she was inspired by Sophie Gamand (whom we’ve written about before here and here). Both photographers have worked extensively to move underrepresented dogs out of shelters and into loving homes – and both used floral crowns!

Share on FacebookI can barely put the leash on my dog Akira. How in HELL did you manage to keep the flowers on?? LOVE IT!!
makes m to go out and adopt a few black poochies... but my 6 mutts, 3 cats, parrot and husband have issues...
How about someone found a way to try and make a difference and they went with it. Don't get caught up on presentation and miss the deed.
What a great idea! wish someone would try this with cats> Lovely pics and thnk you, guinniveere!
An interesting idea, Sophie Gamand did wacky wet dogs which won the Sony 2014 World Photography awards source: http://wp.me/p5peXa-3j
wonderful wonderful wonderful,,,,,,,and think always about adopting the older dogs first...pups generally get homes,,same with cats
I adopted a black dog just for this reason. He is sweet, lovable and the mayor of my building. Very popular guy.
These are beautiful pictures, and I hope someone GREAT will adopt these black beauties!
People are indeed stupid judgemental people. Black animals are frowned upon, specially when it comes to cats. It's really ridiculous!
