Why is the water so clear? We all know the ‘stuff’ that happens during birth/afterbirth.

It looks like the babe was literally JUST born, so the whoooosh of matter had not yet been visible. I'll bet 2 seconds later, the water wasn't so clear.

1. Because there's a serious filtering system on these things. They're not "just tubs". 2. The bath is raised so the doctors and nurses don't need to be on their knees to assist. It's almost 30 years ago that my youngest niece was born this way.

Wow unbelievable and so incredibly beautiful. This was my dream for my eldest daughter to watch he siblings be born underwater but for various reasons she did not make it to see them born (one birth too late at night and she fell asleep and the other too fast lol). Thank you for sharing..almost makes me want to do it all again....I'm breathless seeing this beauty!

I can't say this was seconds after birth as no one is born sitting up. but I have to say as a adult. I am glad I did not see my mother go through this. However I am all for the fathers being in the room. I think they NEED to know it is not just a simple thing.

I beg to differ with the claim that "Birth is an incredibly beautiful part of life" - it is painful, and sometimes very ugly. The only people who call it "beautiful" are simply unfamiliar with, or maybe too embarrassed to use, the words that are most descriptive of what they are seeing.

You are apparently only viewing it in a very simplistic, perhaps tainted manner. What one may see when they look at the mothers face of perceived pain and agony, I see the power and strength only a mother can know. What one may see as gross afterbirth, I see as a miraculous system that supported life. What one may see as ugly, I see as the realness of life creating life....which to me is beautiful. I am a mother of two, through natural birthing using the Bradley Method.

So shocking to have their little girl participating to this birth. Why would parents but their small child through this? Childrend should keep their innocent as long as possible.

Seems like she's been with her mother in the water just minutes before, maybe that is why?

Oh. 0///0 This is kind of awkward. ^^; Idk, maybe it's because I'm from Texas and raised in a Christian family, though personally I'm Atheist... I was never allow to see anyone give birth when I was little and I never had any kids of my own and stuff. :(

This family is forward-thinking, open-minded foreigners—not prudish, uptight, and self-righteous Americans.

Sorry for being the miserable party pooper but the very first thing I looked at when I saw the picture was the light in the newborn's eye. The first thing I thought was: "Bastards want the picture so badly, they don't care shining a very bright light into a just born human being.." Then I saw his feet with socks and Birkenstock and added "pretentious [probably German. I know because I am one] toffs".

Wow. I don't think a small child should see her mothers snatch up close like that. Especially while a human is pushing its way out of it. Grotesque.

It wouldn't drown the baby. Until it's been taken out of the water, it's like it is in the womb with the amniotic fluid

If someone took a picture of me right now, it could be titled "The Ugly Cry", in the category "Hormonal Mess". PS : Going for my first ultrasound this afternoon. Wish me luck!

They've found that if you wait to cut the cord for approximately 5 mins or so the cord empties all the nutrient rich and stem cell blood into the baby. Looks like that's what they're doing.
