Bindi Irwin Gets Married At Her Late Dad’s Empty Zoo Just Hours Before Coronavirus Lockdown

Even in light of recent events regarding the pandemic, with doctors and health officers recommending social distancing and self-isolation all over the world and some countries even going for some harsher measures and banning all social activities and gatherings, large weddings included, there are some silver linings.

The late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s daughter just shared the first photo from her wedding that took place at her parents’ zoo on the 25th of March, along with a heartwarming message, just hours before Australia went into lockdown. Turns out, she and her now-husband Chandler Powell decided to have a wedding with no guests, since they were worried about everyone’s safety.

The late Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi just got married to her fiance Chandler Powell in a small ceremony at the family’s zoo in Queensland just hours before Australia went into lockdown for the upcoming six months and banned large weddings from happening in an attempt to stop the coronavirus from spreading so rapidly.

She shared a heartfelt message along with the photo

Bindi posted the first picture from the wedding on her social media, explaining that the ceremony was held without any guests. “We’ve planned this beautiful day for nearly a year and had to change everything, as we didn’t have guests at our wedding,” she wrote. “This was a very difficult decision but important to keep everyone safe. We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos.”

The couple had planned their wedding for almost a year, but changed everything and decided to have a ceremony with no guests due to the coronavirus pandemic

“Mum helped me get ready, Robert walked me down the aisle, Chandler became my husband and together we lit a candle in Dad’s memory. We shared tears and smiles and love. Thankfully, since we all live at Australia Zoo as a family, we could be there for each other,” Bindi wrote.

Bindi explained their decision, saying: “We’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history”

Many (not all) Zoo’s are vital in conservation, education, rehabilitation, breeding programs, species reintroduction, etc. Quite a few animals in the zoos are rescues kept illegally by private owners. Because of their efforts, 10 species of endangered animals have been saved by extinction from zoos. Whilst there are quite a few zoos that are questionable and are in it for the many reasons other than the above. the fact is most reputable zoo’s want to actually help. Could we do better, of course we can. There is no denying that but we can’t ignore the efforts some zoo’s go to in protecting species, research and education.

So happy for you! Wishing you a long, happy life together. And thank you for setting such a high bar for responsible behavior in this stressful time.

What is so important about Bindi Irwin getting married? She is just another pretty girl not royalty or especially famous. There are 1000's equally pretty girls in Australia that don't get all this attention . Give us a break.

Because there are a lot of people that really loved her father and because of that followed her life. I clicked to read this article because I was happy she got married and wanted to see pictures.

I'm not sure where you got that we're going into lockdown for six months? There isn't a solid timeframe. It may be that long, it may not. Weddings are now only to have 5 people in attendance (the couple, the celebrant, 2 guests), Funerals may have 10. I'm curious as to why they felt the need to rush it in before the law came into affect if they only had the 4-5 people that they claimed, but I digress. Anyhow, congrats to them both. It's nice to have a little joy amongst the gloom.
