Hello, my name is Charlie, and I'm fat. I developed type 2 diabetes in my thirties due to my poor health and eating habits. I wanted to talk openly about my struggles, and since laughter is the best medicine, I started a semi-autobiographical webcomic titled Big Fat Charlie.

Working on this comic has been therapeutic and has helped me cope with my struggles. I've been contacted by more than one person who's said that they find my comic entirely relatable. Thank you for reading. Please enjoy.

I have lost 275 lb and so it used to be that I would go to the doctor the doctor talked to me about my test results in my weight and blah blah blah now I go to the doctor and they're like do not lose anymore weight it's quite the fat shaming is really real as is skinny shaming I never thought that I would experience both in the space of a year and a half

Have you considered that your doctor is not in fact trying to shame you but that their entire job is to look after your health? Your doctor doesn't give a single f**k about your appearance. Their job is to maintain your health.

This is why internet randos need to keep their ”advice” to themselves. Our doctors will let us know that we are fat, you don't need to waste your breath with your ”I'm just trying to help” BS.

I've only ever had one doctor who never fat shamed me. It's unfortunate she was my pediatrician.

I relate so much. Now I make jokes. "You are overweighted" "Really?!! What are you saying, how is that possible?!" I'm still sad they want to shame me. I'm not even that super fat.

This is projecting your self esteem problems onto someone whose job it is to honestly assess your health. Why read all of this negativity into it? Charles, if you read this, if you were advising someone at something you know more about, like how to make comics or one of your other talents, and they were getting a bunch of stuff wrong or coming up short in various ways, you wouldn't be pointing out their mistakes and imperfections just to make them feel bad and put them down right? You'd be doing that to help them. Your doctor is also trying to help and, while unsolicited diet and exercise advice is generally inappropriate, at the doctor's office, it is as appropriate as anything can possibly be.

This is exactly what it's like. The doctor's don't want to help in any way, just repeatedly tell you how fat you are and that you really need to lose weight. When I explain what I'm doing to try to lose weight, I get told that I'm not trying hard enough!

I wouldn't wait on the doctors, if you have the ability to employ a personalized nutrition plan and goal set then take advantage of that. I suspect doctors (in America) treat many obese patients that have health complications due to excess weight. The patients don't change and the doctors aren't emotionally invested.

I hate the doctors because they treat me like I'm drug seeking. I've never done that in my life.

Total hoax and already debunked in 2016 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer: There's no conclusive evidence for a carcinogenic effect of drinking coffee.
