Having deep empathy for others, understanding what they’re going through, and giving them the support that they need is what sets apart a caring person from someone who might be more interested in their own gain. It’s the same no matter if we’re part of the 1% or living from paycheck to paycheck.

Celebrities and the rich are no different from us when it comes to questions of altruism. You have your deeply caring stars like Keanu Reeves and Tom Hanks on one side of the spectrum and slightly less empathetic public figures on the other end. Sometimes, though, people become so fed up with just how out-of-touch some celebs and the rich are with reality, they can’t help but call them out on social media.

Bored Panda has compiled this list of the most brazen examples of the rich and stars getting called out for their behavior to show you that wealth and prestige can’t always buy you a heart. Upvote the posts that you agree with and let us know who you personally find to be the kindest vs. most out-of-touch celebs out there, dear Pandas.

To be fair, though, nobody’s saying that all rich people are 'evil' or that all celebs are egoistic. Most are decent human beings. There just happens to be a handful who aren’t as friendly and philanthropic as their fans would like. I reached out to have a chat about out-of-touch celebrities with entertainment expert Mike Sington, from LA. Mike told Bored Panda that one thing that stars should keep in mind if they want to be more relatable is to avoid showing off their riches.

"If celebrities want to be more in touch with their fans, don’t flaunt your wealth! We know you’re often wealthy, but it does nothing for our self-esteem to see constant photos of the material goods you possess, your huge houses, or exotic vacations," he said. You'll find my full interview with Mike below.

Glirpy, what did you have in mind? There may be mining opportunities on other planets, but growing food and herding livestock sounds like a stretch to me. However, I don't mind if you share some ideas about greenhouses or growing protein in outer space or on the Moon or Mars. I'll be happy to learn from you.

There are far more exorbitantly rich people in the world who do far less for society with their wealth. These two are actually doing something that, through time, will actually provide benefit to society overall but they receive all of the vitriol simply because they are the only two that anybody talks about, generally, because they are the only ones doing something newsworthy. If you think they're not doing anything for society with their d**k measuring space race, think again. Think about the benefits to society from the last big d**k measuring space race between U.S.A. and USSR. Humans living in space, en masse and consistently, is, most likely, far beyond any currently living person's life but there's no reason we can't utilize technology made better or invented during this particular d**k measuring contest and attempt to make life better, the same as was done during the last contest, here on Earth better in the mean time.

Plenty of republicans attack space programs. Trump wanted to stop NASA funding and get rid of the International Space Station. We only have one planet, people. We need to figure out how to take care of it, and viewing this world from space is part of that process. Even reading the comments here, people don’t seem to understand the importance of space exploration. I suggest you read some books by Dr Carl Sagan.

I agree that the system fails, allowing concentrating enormous fortunes into a few individuals. Part of the problem is that fortunes become financial investments, just numbers on a ledger. A billionaire buying a Gulfstream jet, a mega yacht, constructing a palace or a spaceship, on the other hand, mobilizes the real economy. Salaries and taxes are paid, benefiting the community. Scientific and technological knowledge will eventually reach all. The backlash against those investments is mostly wrong. Instead, the progressive community should point to profits flowing into Wall Street's ballooning Dow index as the guilty party. That said, Mr. Musk has built his space enterprise with NASA money, not touching his piggy bank.

Zack Hunt is retarded. Without Billions of dollars from the private sector, governments would never get things going. Besides it's Elon's money, not Zack's. If the workforce is "exploited" why don't they leave? Besides, a d!ck-measuring contest sounds like fun if you do it with space rockets, and actually can. The day Zack can achieve what Elon has done, he might have an opinion worth listening to.

Yeah, because us middle income, non-rich people can afford to invest in space technology/exploration, pharmaceutical development, and IT technology. Creating MILLIONS of jobs, saving MILLIONS of lives, feeding BILLIONS of people, and possibly our planet. And yes people have been fired because there are a lot of lazy ass, untrained and uneducated people that lie about their qualifications. Businesses do shut down because of no customers or no demand for their products. Gee, THAT has never happened before. Or companies declare bankruptcy to reorganize, reevaluate and possibly save the business. You effin socialist liberals have ruined many countries and killed many people with your lying, grabby, false portrayal of how society should be lived.

Celebrity expert Mike noted that it's up to the wealthy to decide how much they want to help others. "You’ll find the wealthiest are often giving much of their money away because they want to, and they truly care. It’s something you don’t often hear about, because they’re doing it with the best intentions, not to impress others or promote themselves," he explained to Bored Panda that the reality is different from what we presume.

What's more, despite these positive acts of philanthropy, the rich often get blamed for 'not doing enough' and supposedly 'hoarding' their wealth. "People often focus on the negatives with well-known people, because it provides them with entertainment to knock someone down. I believe there’s often jealousy involved, too. It’s usually more unaccomplished people, hiding behind a screen, that look at taking down a celebrity as 'sport,' Mike said.

Celebrity, pop culture, and entertainment expert Mike previously told me all about what stars are really like when you meet them in person. He’s met hundreds of stars during his career in Hollywood that has spanned decades, and he found that the vast majority of celebs are friendly, gracious, and kind.

“Don’t be afraid to meet a celebrity! The majority are smart business people, and they realize their fans who watch their TV shows, stream their music, and buy tickets to movies and concerts, are paying their salaries. They want to be nice to you!” Mike told Bored Panda earlier that there’s a practical aspect to being nice to everyone as well. Though most stars are truly genuine.

“In my experience, the one constant I’ve noticed is the bigger the star, the nicer the celebrity. The established stars have it down and understand the importance of the celebrity/fan relationship,” the expert explained.

Usually, the biggest troublemakers and mavericks are those who are new to the scene and to their popularity. “You usually only have a problem with the newer, up-and-coming stars. They at times don’t get it and may think they’re too good to interact with you. This attitude often backfires, and they realize if they want longevity, it’s actually not that hard to be nice.”

Hollywood’s Ultimate Insider Mike added that celebrities always have to be aware of how they act. They’re _always_ in the public eye, even when they think they’re not. Because nearly everyone has a smartphone in their pocket, stars need to be more aware of the fact that they’re always ‘on display’ than ever.

“It does take some conscious effort on the celebrity’s part to be nice, just knowing every interaction, and everything they’re doing in public can be recorded. For some celebrities, in fact, I’d say most celebrities, being nice comes naturally. It doesn’t take any special effort, because it’s who they are as a person,” Mike said.

You will never get me into an uproar about my taxes being used to feed people or get medical attention to people. You want an uproar? Let's talk about my tax dollars funding politician's luxury purchases.

But they want to take even more money from you, not to give you a life (and that they loose some pennies).

She was being sarcastic, but there are a lot of Americans who actually prefer their private insurance over a general insurance for all because "they ain't paying their good money so that one homeless f*cker can get medical care for free."

How are these ‘perks’? 5 days off is appalling (and I’m guessing your birthday counts as one of the 5). That Ellen, so generous, such a nice lady. 🤔🙄

I'm kinda split on this one. True, the world should be concerned about these rainforests and contribute to their upkeeps but not by taxing people. I vote that countries with the highest Co2 emission levels should be responsible for that.
