Sometimes rocks have little indents in them, which can eventually become filled with plant matter that turns into dirt. Moss will often grow there, and if a tiny seed comes along, there's a chance it'll germinate. If conditions are good, then that little tree gets bigger and bigger. Roots are an incredible force and can easily split rocks when they want to. It's probably made a hole all the way through that boulder.

Is it just me or is the Bored Panda community a bit more amicable than the Reddit and YouTube communities? Like, on Reddit, people give me grief a lot and downvote me, call me slurs, imply that I'm stupid for asking questions, say crude jokes instead of answers, and heaven help me if I have an unpopular opinion. On YouTube, it's pretty much the same, but people also give me grief for crying when something sad happens in a video (e.g. "Don't be a baby"), or for telling people to stop being rude. On here, it seems to be different. While I have been, and seen people being, downvoted for petty reasons here, people tend to call rude people out a lot more and don't get given grief for telling rude people to knock it off. Also, people tend to be more rational and more inclined to answer questions without judging. And if anyone does say something blatantly offensive, they get downvoted to kingdom come. Thanks, everyone, for being so amicable :)
