Street photography can help one discover a whole new world full of unexpected and sometimes ridiculous moments and might change one's perception of reality. It is not only a means to express oneself, but also a way to show how one sees the world.

Belgian photographer Jeffrey De Keyser travels to cities all around the world to capture extraordinary scenes of everyday life. As the artist mentions on Instagram, he embraces "the absurd human condition" and we think these photos depict just that.

Let us know what you think about the photographs by leaving a comment and don't forget to upvote your favorite ones!

Do they know you can buy postcards of this in the shop at the exit?

I bought it as a jigsaw puzzle, completed the puzzle, put it in a frame, and it now hangs in my bedroom. And NO, you cannot come over to take photos of it!!!! 😉

This is exactly what I saw of this painting when I was in NYC and it was so disappointing because there is so much texture and movement in the painting that you don't get from a picture, but I couldn't really get close enough to enjoy it... *sigh*

Fortunately, you can look at the ultra-high resolution online at Google Arts & Culture, and spend hours appreciating all the minute details of the brush strokes (including how the unpainted canvas can still be seen around the stars). Even though it's not 3D, texture and movement can be perceived well. https://g.co/arts/QnFeoj1qHQXcipXX9 95c00324-7...33b2fb.jpg 95c00324-72ca-4f47-aebb-35ffb65880f3-625590b33b2fb.jpg

Why can't they just stand there and be in the moment of seeing the original painting? They're missing life by trying to capture it on a cellphone.

Um. What do people who feel the need to document everything they do or see actually do with all the photos and videos? Do they just dump everything onto their social media accounts? It's obvious that none of the people in this photo are enjoying what they are looking at, so perhaps they just want to prove they were there? I mean . . . documenting what you would be experiencing if you weren't so busy documenting it to share or whatever . . . sigh.

How did they do that? When I visited the Van Gogh's museum in Amsterdam, taking photographs of the most famous paintings was forbidden and if people were caught doing it anyway they were severely reprimanded.

Maybe it was in a different museum that had the painting for a temporary exhibit? But yes the Van Gogh Museum has a rule of no photographs at all (not just the famous paintings) and it was awesome! Ok I love Van Gogh's work since childhood so maybe I'm not that objective, but the fact that you could actually take the time to admire the paintings without anybody cramming up to take a selfie was really really nice. I highly recommend this museum to anybody visiting Amsterdam!

apparently my view is unpopular but i don't understand these weird, pompous, pretentious comments about ppl documenting what they do or taking photos. who says u can't enjoy something + also take a photo? it's <1 second w/ the rest being "in the moment". contrary to half of u, ppl do look thru their gallery? i do it all the time. i take lots of photos. i'm enjoying myself + wanna be able to look back at the good times + have memories of it. esp bc i have MH issues w/ localised amnesia + forget lots/the emotions/feelings, or the specifics. v weird to be that concerned abt how other ppl enjoy things. you've paid an ungodly amount to get to NYC to see cool s**t + ur not gonna take <1 second for a picture? arrogant weirdos judging be damned

Watch me capture the moment so I don't experience the moment and never look at the moment I captured ever again. Blows my mind how when one human does it, they all do it.

Same thing happened with the Mona Lisa painting at the Louvre. It was crazy and we decided we won't go near it and continued with other exhibits instead. I think the thrill is to show off to friends, family, and social media for bragging rights. Little do people know that the original is possibly kept in the vault and we are all looking at a replica.

Isn't that why artists create pictures? So that we can have pictures of taking pictures of the picture?

Its about remembering the experience so the picture is a bookmark where you were at a certain time and certain place. If its not about the experience of seeing a great piece of art that you connect with, you can stay home and get the same thing but better. The MoMA has multiple copies for sale that are much more vibrant with the "best" one being a 230GB 3D scan where you can even look at the sides of the individual brushstrokes or zoom in to 3 microns (half the width of a blood cell).

This actually bums me out. I've seen this painting in person and it's extraordinary -- far better than any photograph or replication on a postcard. I'm glad I saw it before everybody had a camera built into their phone, because I could just stand there and soak it in.

The artist has always been interested in photography but started appreciating it even more when he discovered the street photography genre. According to Jeffrey, it allows him to express himself even more and explore undiscovered magical moments in life. It changed his perception of reality.

Jeffrey's photography is very much inspired by the surrealist movement. He aims to portray a piece of the surreal and absurd condition of human existence. Looking at these photographs, one might discover new ways of observing society and humankind.
