If you ever had long, luscious hair before opting for a long to short haircut, you probably remember daily showers of compliments that often go alongside it. If you've never had it, the chances are you always wanted it.

But aren’t we all just idealizing the locks the same way we do when looking at Botticelli’s “The Birth of Venus”? After all, women these days have much more important things to do when taking care of something that’s subjectively pretty (is it really?) and questionably comfy (no, it’s not).

So this time, we’re celebrating the fresh, unique, and, without a doubt, super cool look of short hair. Going from long to short hair is one heck of a change, and these women seem like they don’t regret it a single bit. So scroll down and upvote your favorite long to short hair transformation, and let us know which looks, long or short, you prefer in the comments below!

Second one has more character. She's beautiful in both pictures!

To Trim or Not to Trim, That is the Question

To find out more about long to short haircuts and the debate that goes with them, Bored Panda reached out to Dovile Osia, an experienced hair stylist and colorist based in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Dovile told us that usually, clients with long hair value it a lot and aren’t in a rush to go from long hair to short hair. “This is when we have to politely bring them back to reality and remind them what it means to have brittle and fragile hair that hasn't seen a cut in a long time.”

According to the hair stylist, beauty is not only the length of hair. “I always encourage a regular trim even for these clients who are in the process of growing their hair.”

The haircut makes her look hella sexy! Of course the makeup adds to the look, but the hair itself is awesomeness. She looks drab and boring with the super long hair.

This young woman is gorgeous in both shots. I love long hair, but I'm not anti shorter hair. She is stunning with her hair cut and styled. The problem I have is the way marketers subtly compare apples and oranges. In the left shot her hair is long, but it's lifeless, has split ends and has no shine. She is not wearing makeup and her dress is shapeless has a high neckline. Even the shot itself is almost imperceptibly hazy. The second photo is a high resolution, sharply focused, close-up. Her hair has been lightened, styled and combed from the side. Her face is made up, hell they even plumped her lips. Her attire is stylish, has a sheen and opens her neckline. If this were a fair comparison, the only thing that would change is her hair This isn't random. It's well thought out by people who's job is to make the public like their products and make it seem like it was their choice all along. Please excuse the rant.

Well, the after photo should have been taken without makeup. She is a beautiful girl and the shorter hair really complements her face.

The lighting, focus (first shot is out of focus) and make up are much better in the "after" but definitely better with shorter hair 🥰

This style looks much healthier, not dry and lifeless. Her hair has more youthful movement.

If both pictures were with makeup, or both without makeup, the comparison would have been more fair. The eye makeup, subtle lipcolor and blusher makes her face come alive in the right picture. But if I try to imagine her with that makeup on the left picture, I am very jealous of her hair. God, the length and the fulness, I wish I could have that pretty hair. 😍

Well, the eye make up in the second has a lot to do with her makeover.

If she had the makeup on in the first pic then i could answer more fairly. The second cut is cute but i like the first one too. Not to mention the second cut has more hair color..this was a biased question because you didn't do it fairly.

Dovile also explained that a good hair stylist should always take into an account what their client wants. “If the look that the client wants to go for is not really realistic, we talk until we find a middle ground.”

When it comes to that long to short haircut, Dovile says that everyone can have it, but “it really depends on the head's anatomy, hairline, the shape of the face, hair type, and lifestyle.”

Long to Short Haircut Can Be a Huge Change in Looks

Some long to short hair transformations are truly life-changing. This is what happened to Dovile, who remembers the time she decided to part with her long hair. “I wasn’t yet a hair stylist at the time, but I realized that with long hair, I won’t have that ‘wow’ look.”

“But as soon as I cut it, my life changed. People would ask me how I made such a brave decision, and they would give me compliments. My friends would also tell me that short hair gave me character.”

However, if that long hair to short hair change really works for one person, that doesn’t mean it would work for another. “Beauty is subjective. I believe that you look your most beautiful when you feel good.”

I see so many women with thin straight hair and their "after"-pics look awesome. But I have thick wavy hair, I look like a triangle-head with a Bob :(

Don’t Forget - Every Haircut Needs Maintenance

If you’re thinking about getting yourself a post-pandemic hair treatment with some long to short haircuts, Dovile said that the most popular cuts at the moment are razor cuts. “It’s anything from shag to mullet-kind of hair. Meanwhile, more conservative women opt for the long-time favorite bob hair and its variations.”

Dovile concluded that pretty hair requires time and care, and it doesn’t matter how long it may be. “Shorter hair means you’d probably have more visits to hair salons, and long hair demands some nourishing mask treatments at home. Don’t forget to give some time to yourself.”

Now, if you’re still unsure whether you’d really want to go for that long to short haircut, these long to short hair before and after pics that are still on our list might be just the thing to sway your choice. Keep on checking them out!

It's like two different people. Gorgeous on both but as long as she is happy, all else is moot.

I would like to hear the story behind that one. Sometimes you need to do what you do.
