Guy Shares 28 Incredible Before & After Rescue Dog Transformations, Shows What Love Can Do
A saying that people who work in animal rescue live by is that saving one abandoned, mistreated or stray dog won’t change the world, but for that one dog, the world will change. But even though the individuals are important, and you can see that change just by looking at these before and after pictures of adorable dogs who were picked up from the streets, animal rescue can have more far-reaching effects as well—it can create a community where people are vigilant and care about animal welfare.
26-year-old David Fernández makes it his mission to turn rescue dogs that are unrecognizable due to neglect into happy house pets. While most passersby wouldn’t dare to touch these cases of severe mange and matted hair, Fernández responds to reports of downtrodden abandoned animals by getting them the vet care they need and connecting them with loving foster homes and eventually adopters. You’ll be amazed by what these dogs look like after a few months of good food and baths.

Santiago, Chile, where Fernández does his work, has an abundance of stray dogs. Although Chileans take pride in their compassion towards dogs, often providing food and shelter for strays as communities, and staunchly opposing proposals to cull their population, rough sleeping is still not easy for these cute dogs. As you can see from the pictures posted by Fernández, dogs living outside are vulnerable to mange, injuries, infections, and all the discomfort that poor hygiene and the elements can cause.
All of this fills my heart with joy knowing some people out there do care for these precious animals. ❤️️
57% of Chileans believe that measures to control stray dogs other than euthanasia should be implemented, and public policy is gradually shifting towards population control for stray dogs. The Metropolitan Regional Council of Santiago is investing 3 billion Chilean pesos ($3,678,000) in spaying and neutering strays in an effort to slow the growth of the stray population. Recent laws have also outlawed pet abandonment and made microchipping mandatory in the hopes that pets won't end up on the streets or in animal shelters.
However, animal rescuers and overburdened shelter animal workers say that public education is necessary for any policy changes to help the situation, calling for people to have their pets spayed and neutered, volunteer as foster carers and donate to shelters and rescuers that help with spaying and neutering strays and fix them for future dog adoption.
It must have been one helluva job getting all that matted hair off. Thanks for putting in the effort. He looks quite beautiful now.
Lots of 'fashionable' dogs here. People who should never have had a dog in the first place
How cruel they r beautiful animals the people who did this to them R SCUM
Wonderful to see how many people come together to undo the 'bad' that previously happened to these adorable puppers!! Those who report the dogs to be rescued, those who do the rescuing, the vets, the nurses & other staff at the vets, foster-carers, photographer, everyone who shares their stories, and their final adoptive families. For every 1 jerk who dumped a dog, there are literally dozens of people coming together to do good. Helps to restore faith in the goodness that humans can achieve.
You mean except THIS human, and the thousands of others like him who care for animals such as these?

some people are so poor, they cannot take care of their dogs, or they abandon them because they cannot afford the cost, or there is no culture of animal care.
Load More Replies...All the 'before' pictures are truly heart breaking. I salute you Sir and your faith in these lovely dogs. You are an angel.
This is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time! All of the non-shedding doggies, like poodles and bichons, which are often desired by people, end up practically debilitated if they are abandoned or somehow lost. So if you the most raggedy mop of a dog in the shelter, know that it's a non-shedder.
I'm from Chile and can answer that. Poodles are very popular here, specially with older ladies. Lots of them escape, many more are abandoned so they breed with other stray dogs creating poodle-like dogs. The same has happened with pitbulls lately
Load More Replies...This goes to show dogs are bred into dependence on humans, while "house" cats are still basically wild. House cats, if they don't have very long hair or are bred with short snouts can survive in the wild. (They can feed themselves and also seem to avoid many of the types of disases dogs get.) Let's stop breeding dogs to be physically disabled, basically. And kudos to the people who take in strays, and the special vets and vet techs who are willing to treat those that are in a bad way!!
So many street dogs, with the positive changes they are making will be a tremendous help, enough suffering of innocent dogs, they didn't ask to be born and dumped !!!
What gets me is how different the dogs eyes look. So haunted and sad in the before photos and yet so happy and alive in the after ones.
This equally breaks my heart & fills it with joy. Most of these dogs are expensive breeds, in Australia you would pay $1500- 3000. They don’t shed, so they need regular grooming, & I guess do people not realise the up keep & abandon them when they realise it’s 15 years of brushing & clipping. I’m allergic to most dogs, so it took 2 years for me to find my own adorable poodle x, & I would have taken one of these fur babies in heartbeat.
I know so many people that pay hundreds or even thousands for the perfect breed, and ther is so many unwanted out there. I respect these people more
I just want to thank the wonderful people who care and love these gifts from God, they show such compassion. These pictures show the beauty after the the horror these poor creatures have had to endure. God Bless
The worst ones are the ones with long fur cause they’re fur doesn’t stop growing, eventually they become unable to walk or get fleas
We humans bred these dogs to be tiny, frail and with fluffy hair - and then we abandon them and tehyy don't stand a chance to survive with that matted fur. Ye, sthese dogs had happy endings, but the before pcitures till break my heart, because I know there are os mayn dogs (and cats) like that still out there. Bred to be dependent on humans and then abandoned.
Just shows the incredible dogs you can have if you just take care of them properly! Dogs are great...some humans don't deserve them.
I don't know which ones made me more sad, the ones with such terrible cases of mange, or the poodles matted beyond recognition. No dog should ever be abandoned, but there should be an extra special place in hell for anyone who abandons a dog who needs regular grooming just to survive. I seen some that were so badly matted they ended up loosing limbs.
