The project "Beauty Warriors" is a photo series featuring strange looking beauty gadgets. I found them on eBay and most of these beauty products are made in China. These new gadgets promise instant cure without surgical intervention. They are much cheaper than plastic surgeries and botulin injections and if you believe in it, they might work!
To be successful, you must be perfect and have a perfect body—these are our society’s rules, which we all follow without even realizing how ridiculous the beauty standards are. We often forget about the importance of inner and natural beauty.
Models for this project are my friends, family and volunteers found with the help of social media.
This beauty trends project was part of my coursework. I am studying Contemporary Art and Contextualised Practice BA(Hons) at the University of Highlands and Islands, in Inverness, Scotland.

Although I think all of this is better than plastic surgery, and although a few of these devices might actually have a medical purpose, it is sadening what people do to reach what they are told they should look like.
I have to disagree. Not everybody who wants to change their faces wants to because they "were told they should look like" this or that. People choose to have a certain hairstyle, sometimes put a lot of time and money into having a different hair color or changing completely with make-up, choose to wear this or that outfit, sometimes modify their bodies permanently with tattoos and piercings, some wear fake eyelashes, fake boobs, color contacts, people can just want to look a certain way because they just like that way better. Wanting to change doesn't always mean they hate themselves either.
Of course you are right... But many of the here depicted tool have been created for forming faces in distinctive wayy, adhearing to contemporary beauty standards.
if you want to change something, means you don't like it. simple.
i love how all of these women are photographed with the products in such a modelesque manner, and quirkily.

Ok, I laught at some of those pic, but ... come on! It's a bit sad that some people (mostly women but more and more men too) feel they need to buy those stuff, because we have to conform the unreachable beauty standard magazins sale us. When does what we look like has become more important than who we are? Taking care of ourselves O.K. but we shouldn't waste that much money/energy/emotion/creativity to fit a model that we didn't even chose.
"Be yourself, no matter what they say..." Remember this line from "English man in New York"? It turned into rule number 1 to me and my friends so long ago we can't even remember. So, I'm a fierce protector of those who want to be different and thus, I find these "gadgets" useless to society in general. Who cares that you don't look like a model? Your friends? Or perhaps, your family? Because, if they do care, they are not real friends and they are a family with odd ideals.

I resigned my office-job and now I am getting paid £64 hourly. How? I work over internet! My old work was making me miserable, so I was forced to try something different, two years after...I can say my life is changed-completely for the better! Check it out what i do.... http://cutt.us/ZIG2M

What's with all the nose sharpers. Sure moisturized lips or less wrinkles sounds nice, but changing your nose changes your face. (not that I think any of these work)
99% of these things look like weird fetish torture devices.
Most of these look more like Medieval torture devices.
Gotta admit that!

I love that all these pictures had REAL women in them.
It pisses me off that there are people out there selling these useless things to the gullible woman so desperate to fit the beauty norm. It's a sad commentary about our society today.
We saw these gadgets in a store in Hong Kong when I was there. My Mom, sister & I thought they were hysterical.
There isn't one item I have seen that I would say "yes, the world needs this".
A lot of these reflect the plastic surgery trends in Asia (specifically S.Korea) I imagine that is where most of these items came from.
One that I like is really more of a self-help than a beauty aid. A man sends away for a $20 hearing aid. When he receives it, he opens the package to find a t-shirt with SPEAK UP! written on the front.
What... What are these devices?? They look like torcher tools!
Some of them are so scary! Cool though.
Fantastic series!!!! Love the women, their regal poses and the old fashioned look and how they make the gadgets look even more absurd.
The question is though, do they work at all or are they just gimmicky?
