Not quite the same situation, but our Black lab was so excited when our queen had a litter of kittens. Of course, she wouldn't let him near them, but he stayed close by observing the little darlings. Eventually she relented, and he was the most gentle I'd ever seen him.

Black labs are the best. When I was young and visited my dad and step-ma they had one and I'd drop my bag and immediately let him out of the kennel. They we would play "dead bird" - he was a hunting dog and there was a pond down the hill. So well trained "Heel." toss the training dummy, whisper in his ear "dead bird" and boom, he was off. We both had to shower afterward. Fond memories. EDIT: Piccolo was so gentle and sweet, I kind of wished that I lived with him permanently. A hunting dog in Minnesota jumps into the water to bring back the bird during duck hunting, and he was really good at it. I don't hunt or condone it, but it was something my father did in the 1970s. We fished, but I never shot ducks.

I got these for a black friend's daughter's 4th birthday because I could not think of anything else to get. I thought I had cheaped out on the gift but she said it was a perfect gift. My guess is that this happened around the fifth anniversary of OP’s mother’s passing. I don’t know how the little one reacted to his grandmother‘s passing, but I know I had difficulty sleeping for several days during the time my maternal grandmother experienced her final illness and for some time after she passed on to the Lord. So did a couple other members of my family, including my mother. We were all adults at this time, too.It’s been more than five years since my maternal grandmother passed away and I still lie awake, thinking about her at night sometimes. OP may very well have been grieving her mother‘s passing as my family and I grieved my grandmother‘s passing.

My great grandmother (lived to 100), then my grandfather (lived to 98), and now my mother (still with us)... dementia runs in the family. While their minds were/are deteriorating, they all knew/know the people they loved on sight. Names might be gone, memories lost, but love remains.

When my daughter was two my grandmother suffering from dementia came to live with us. Boy! Was it a hoot seeing them together. They entertained the heck out of eachother. Only they knew what they were talking about half the time 🤣 it was a very bittersweet time. Nail painting was a disaster 😆

I was lucky enough to know my maternal great grandparents. It was always fun going to visit, as they had tons of stories and were antique dealers. Imagine a clock or ten going off every 15 minutes. I learned so much from them. Fond memories. And to rejuvenate stale bread, put it in a luke warm oven in a paper bag sprinkled with water. I later learned to just use it in a strata.

My dog is so distressed when there is thunder. He becomes agitated even before the thunder starts. He usually loves human touch and cuddles but when there are thunders he becomes extremely clingy. So he has to have some kind of human touch at anytime. Since he is too big to sit in my lap, he would just lay on my foot when Im working.

I have know people who don't like vitiligo ans are self conscious. I can understand why, but it's one thing that makes you stand out from others in a good way. In a sea of people, you can't tell one from another. With vitiligo, it seems that you would be hard to miss and very memorable. Kudos to this man for normalizing and celebrating that difference.

It looks like they both have a side that can be opened and closed, which means you can open it when you are in the mood for company and close it when you want privacy, and when you both have it open at the same time, you can share a drink. That makes it so much better than a gate or knocking on each other's door, because you never have to worry that the other one doesn't wanna be disturbed.

The post about the dog reminded me of my friend. I have ADHD and I don’t like loud noises very much and my friend knows that recently in our area. We had a really big thunderstorm. I texted him saying that it was really loud and I was kind of stressed out because it was thundering a lot and he immediately called me to make sure that I was OK apparently he had been sitting by his phone and he even rescheduled something. He was going to do to an hour later because he knew that I was going to get stressed out and wanted to make sure that I was OK .
