When photographer Yulia Taits posted her hypnotizing photo series that capture the beauty of Albino people, it inspired us to look further and find more people with Albinism.
As you may already know, Albinism is a rare condition which results in the absence of pigment in hair, eyes, and skin. However, it's not only the appearance, though, the Albinos often suffer from vision problems and sometimes even blindness. These issues can lead to isolation, making the works of artists like Yulia even more important. "Their unique beauty hypnotizes me," - says Yulia and we couldn't agree more.
Humans with Albinism often face some difficulties being ridiculed and discriminated. In some African regions, albino women might even be associated with witchcraft. And though many famous artists and models suffer from this condition, the International Albinism Awareness Day, celebrated on June 13th, adds much-needed attention to this cause.

There are multiple types of albinism, do some research before you post things. There is a thing called Ocular Albinism which only affects the eyes. Also it occurs on different levels, so she may have a really small amount of albinism.

Just to clear the air: it took me less than five minutes to 'educate myself' on albinism. It doesn't have to be a complete lack of pigment, someone can have a 'diminished pigment' and still be considered albino. Don't be hateful or rude. Do a quick Google search before you embarrass yourself on the internet with ignorant comments.

This lady is not albino, she has dark blonde hair, dark brown eye brows, and dark brown eyes, which no albino person has. An albino person has white hair, white eyebrows, and light colored eyes which tend to be blue if they have any color in the iris at all. Fake Poser!

To clarify: she's an albino model~ and she's beautiful. Albinism isn't necessarily the complete absence of pigmentation, it can be partial. If she's simply albinoid due to this no source has mentioned it! Her eyes are naturally green, and her hair naturally blond, so those are likely contacts. Beautiful picture <3

Think that it's a gene, like there are different eyes colour, there are a lot of form of albinism. Like it's possible to have albinism only on the skin or the eye. Some can have purple or red eyes for exemple, some are blond and some have white hair. :)

That is interesting, because so called normal people come up to me daily and tell me I need to wear makeup to be pretty. The are specifically talking about eye makeup which I can't wear because it burns the s**t out of my eyes. Not that I want to wear it because it is not my responsibility to paint my face normal to make other people feel more comfortable.

Each and every picture is beautiful but looking at African culture in this beauty is kind of unique. NO. THIS DOESN'T INclude racism... but what i say is we have different features and body shape and complexion as our mother nature gives us. But when you are used to see one culture in particular color and then you see them in totally opposite one...it seems like Magic....just like you see Irish girl in dark complexions.
I appreciate everything positive about this article, especially that it goes hand in hand with raising awareness. However, I think using words like 'otherworldly' and 'mesmerising' does more harm than good. Especially given the aforementioned historical connotations. At the end of the day, a person with albinism is just that... a person. Raising awareness is important, but it also has to be done in the right way. Otherwise, it simply contributes to further alienating people.
My son has albinism doctor's thought that he was going to have problems when he started school like being bullied not able to make friends. He has proving them wrong my son plays football, excel at wrestling. I don't treat him any different from the rest of my kids. What I think that helped him the most was you can do whatever you want to do and you whatever you want to be in this world.

People walk up to me on the street lean forward crinkle up their noses and ask me, "are YOU and ALBINO? First of all there is no reason for you to ask me that question based on my history, to me you are asking if I am some kind of freak. When I was born in the 60's the doctor who diagnosed me told my parents that I would never amount to anything more than a freak in a freak show. My parents figured if they just swept it under the carpet and raised me "normal" then I wouldn't have all the prejudice and bullying. That was an interesting tactic and didn't save me from any of it. I just couldn't understand why people were so mean to me, and why I was treated like a second class citizen. Even my teacher's bullied me and mocked me in front of the other students. The term albino is a label that has some serious connotations to me and others like me.

Many of the people depicted here have albinism rather than are true albino. Technically, there is a difference between the two. One is limited pigment and the other is lack of pigmentation. I have albinism but am not albino. I don't know that the difference is so important to the post, though, as all of these people show some level of little to no pigmentation.
