Guy Suggests A Completely Different Idea For A Batman Movie In A Viral Twitter Thread
Fanfic, or fan fiction, gets a notorious rep because of all of the people who are out there turning beloved [insert franchise name here] characters into lovers (most often) in hopes of experimenting with the universe and inventing alternate plot lines (or so I’m told, but there are other theories out there too).
And though there is much “fanfic” out there that some don’t want to even touch, there are some people who end up creating quality narratives that could pass off as excellent spin-offs or flat out alternate dimension sequels or prequels to the superhero franchises we’ve grown to love.
Though the Batman Series is quite phenomenal, some people think that there is still room for improvement

Enter Sean Kelly, a.k.a. the Story Slug as his Twitter name suggests, who has recently written an alternative storyline to the dark and gritty generation of Batman movies. And people loved it, so scroll down to check out the full story.
In particular, Kelly provides a version that is more realistic and updated with the times—like Batman is no longer something out of the ordinary when considering the arsenal modern police forces have and what he has, and also turning the narrative on its side and now having Batman target corrupt and abusive cops rather than aiming at crime lords directly.

Considering things the way they are now in the Batman universe, Kelly stated that Batman comes off as an ad for abusive policing. Sure, he never aimed to kill anyone, but beating baddies to a pulp to enforce the law isn’t exactly within the confines of the law either in most cases.
“So instead of spending ten years learning how to fight against street crime and mob bosses, he spends ten years with his eyes firmly fixed on police corruption, the blue boy’s club that protects murderers,” explained Kelly.
We won’t spoil anything and allow you to have a read for yourself, but even if it is provided as a string of tweets, it does not detract from how well written it is and how it manages to give a defamiliarized plot to an otherwise aging narrative.
The thread managed to draw quite a bit of attention on Twitter, garnering over almost 83,000 likes with over 15,000 retweets and 4.1 quoted tweets. People responded with a discussion. Among the commenters, some said that the premise might be a bit off but a good plot overall, while others expressed their desire for this story to become an official Batman movie.

I liked that the storyline of the Gotham TV series revolves a lot around bringing down the corruption of the GCPD.
Ehhh. Little on the nose isn't it? Liberal Batman has never been the point of Batman. Batman and his villian's are all representations of mental illness and personality defects. Batman represents loss and tragedy, joker represents total Insanity and the reason they never explain where he comes from is because all the other villians represent what leads to someone like him while Batman represents what causes them to become that way. It's a beautiful duality and one of the best rogues gallery of villians. The mobster stuff and corrupt cops are just there for filler and to show how society leads to tragedy(Batman) that causes the mental illness(all villians besides joker) that creates monsters(the joker) trying to turn it into a different political statement would detract from the societal issues it already addresses. Not EVERYTHING needs to be a topical teaching moment, let Batman stay Batman.

I love Terry Pratchett! I just finished reading "Guards! Guards!" for probably the fifth time. The Night Watch books are definitely my favorites.

My one caveat would be Jim Gordon. If he WAS one of the few good cops, I'd make him now a very broken man. His attempts to fight corruption were thwarted at every turn until he gives up and turns inward. Perhaps he stays but drinks away the pain (along with legal drugs to make things numb). His wife left him at some point so all he has is his beloved daughter who has watched him decay into a shell. During the day she plays as sweet and compliant but at night she assists her hero, the one man with the strength to fight the things that destroyed someone she loves... And boom we have Batgirl
His parents' killer being a cop is the origin of Prometheus though, and he became a villain.
