A business that has a physical place where people can come in is within their rights to establish their own rules that don’t contradict federal laws because it’s their property. For example, they can ban certain people from entering if they suspect they are a shoplifter or a troublemaker, but not because of their race or gender.

Apparently, getting banned from places is a real thing that happens not only in movies and people had some interesting stories to share when Reddit user PsycheAsHell asked “People Who've Been Banned From Somewhere for Life, What Happened?”

Which stories did you find the most amusing? Has someone banned you from a place before? What did you do to receive such a punishment? Share with us your stories in the comments!

“People Who've Been Banned From Somewhere For Life, What Happened?” (30 Answers) In college, at the local college book store, I attempted to sell some books back to the store. After hearing what the buyback value was, a guy behind me said he'd pay $20 more for my books (he was taking the same course the next semester sand the store's mark up would by 100%). The bookstore owner warned me if I sold to this other dude, I'd be banned for life. I told him money makes the world go round and took my extra twenty.

This benefits both of the parties (buyer and seller) ; the only thing the seller has done 'wrong' is to deprive the vile little s**t of a corporate rapist (bookseller) out of a bit of extra profit - good for you, more students should set up their own book swaps / sales and kick the bastards off campuses.

I did this around 2 months ago but unlike selling something, I offered the guy a better deal. If you are in the retro video games scene, you would know that the Jungle Green N64 with 2 controllers is worth around 200 at minimum and it's pretty valuable. So what happened was that the guy brought it in and tried to trade it in for a Gamecube. The store looked at it and said "We'll give you $80 for it but if you want a Gamecube, we'll give you the Gamecube but you'll have to pay extra $80 to cover up everything." I was pissed that the guy is getting ripped off and when he was looking for some other games, I sneakily told him about a better deal that I am willing to give him since I am looking for an N64 back then. I think the clerk knew what the hell I was doing when I walked out. The guy later told me that the clerk decided to give him the Gamecube and a game for the Green N64 because he knew he messed up. In the end, he got the Gamecube and I got away from trouble lol.

College books are ridiculous. I bought the older versions on eBay, most of which only had minor edits. Saved about 90% that way, and they still had all of the same information.

The local bookstores did the same thing with buybacks. I usually ended up selling my books online since I got more for them that way.

Would that even be actually legal? He purchased the book, therefore is the owner, and can do what he wants with said book. How can a university store ban him? What does he tell his profs next semester if he can't get books. Sounds like b.s. to me.

Yes...? Within the last few years, a book publisher conned a judge into agreeing that the publisher retained all rights to the book in order to ensure . Whether that held or not, there's now precedent for claiming the resale is piracy.

That’s why you first try to sell your course books privately, even when I went to university in the late 90’s (before the internet was huge, and before all these sale sites existed) there were ways to sell your course books. It probably way easier now. Also, any one who got banned from the uni bookstore just had to ask a friend to go in and buy their books for them.

There is nothing more corrupt that college bookstores and the deals made with instructors. 'Yes, this is the same book this class used last semester but it has a new preface so you need to buy the new edition at the 60% price increase.'

Our university organized textbook sale begginning of each semester. They provided the canteen space for one evening, anyone could come, lay their textbooks on the table and name the price. And that is in a country where university education is free and textbooks are already very reasonable price.

Why would this particular ban work? He is selling his books back as they have finished their course and are leaving. They are done. They don't need the books any more. Basically they are banned from a store they have no reason to go back to

“People Who've Been Banned From Somewhere For Life, What Happened?” (30 Answers) I'm banned from a cafe in a town in North Wales; neither of which I'd been to prior to this experience. I walked in and the guy behind the counter said "You! I've told you before! You're banned!" I said, confusedly "I've never been here before", but he just pointed at the door, so I turned around and left. Almost 30 years ago.

“People Who've Been Banned From Somewhere For Life, What Happened?” (30 Answers) The prison I used to work at.

I had tried numerous times to receive therapy to treat PTSD I gained while working the job and thanks to the HR taking their vacation was not able to get it and the administrative assistant warden told me, quite literally, "officers don't need therapy and if they do then they aren't cut out to be officers" and refused to help me find help.

When they learned (somehow) that I had sought therapy on my own, they attempted to place me on "indefinite administrative leave" citing "officer has conducted themselves in a manner unfitting their position"

So yeah. I sued them and quit and they banned me for life... from their prison.

Okay.

I got banned from the local library for "being there too often." The crazy logic was no kid would actually read that many books so I clearly was using the library for some other purpose. When I went to check out the latest round, the librarian cut up my library card and made a massive deal of having me removed from the building. I was 14. When I moved back to town in my late 20s I tried to get a library card and found out I WAS STILL BANNED!!!! They had me down as "conducting illicit activities on property" in the system. Luckily the librarian at Central got it overturned in under a month. Still nuts.
