That's what I want to know. It suggests that a child that is anxious about getting their hair cut (and a lot of children don't like the experience) should definitely not be brought there as they have no idea how to make them feel comfortable. In fact, they don't care if the child is crying. They accept that as inevitable.

@Jon S. It's sexist because they're talking about women as if they're little girls. They call boys "men" because then it's just about age; if you're over eighteen (or twenty, depends) you're a man. It doesn't matter if you're sixty, if you're a woman sexist people will call you a girl because they think you're lesser.

Thanks for helping. Although I am still left with more questions. I genuinely don't think that 'you are a child' goes through people's minds. I would be totally onboard with this if I could see it result in women being infantilized by society, but actually I think society infantilizes men a lot more: 'Boys and their toys,' 'boys will be boys,' 'men never grow up,' etc. I just don't know any examples of the using the word girl to denigrate an adult woman, it is so commonplace. On the contrary "Girl Power!" was the catchphrase of feminism when I was growing up. However, on the basis that many women take offence, in any case, I will steer well clear of the word.
