Babysitter Reveals Why She Never Accepts Children Who Are Asleep, And Every Babysitter Should Read It

According to a recent survey, 74% of parents in USA hire a babysitter at least once a month. The great majority of them pick the babysitter for their children very carefully – it is only natural that parents worry before letting someone else take care of their child. But sometimes it’s not the parents who worry, but rather the babysitters themselves as some parents, according to one babysitter, are hard to trust.

Internet user Twatermellon shared a story of one former daycare employee who had one strict policy that the babysitters had to adhere to and explained the reason behind it. Scroll down to see what this babysitter had to tell. (Facebook cover image: Mad Ball)

One former daycare employee shared a story about how the babysitters had to follow one strict rule before taking care of someone’s child

The babysitter went on to explain why adhering to such policy was highly important

I actually know someone who runs a home daycare that had a very bad experience because of this. Parents dropped off sleeping child in the morning, after 2 hours child did not wake up and could not be woken up, she called 911. Hospital determined that the child had been forcefully struck in the head, hours earlier, baby died 2 days later on life support. It came out at the trial that the parents dropped child off at babysitter, so that when the problem was discovered, babysitter would be blamed. Fortunately, doctors were able to determine that injury occurred hours before the child was dropped off. These particular parents had been in trouble with the authorities before for harming a child, although that child survived, he was disabled for the rest of his life and relegated to the foster system permanently until he was adopted. I do wonder about our system that these parents weren't more closely monitored after injuring one child previously so badly.

OMG! Ok, I don't like kids, so I made sure I never had any. And I don't know how kids act, unless they are screaming crying brats in the store. But I THOUGHT you were going to say that if a baby/kid is asleep, not to take them, because when they DO wake up in the day care center, they might really freak out, not knowing where in the H they are, Mom and Dad are not there, and they'd really start crying. I didn't even think the reason had to do with abuse. How sad! People who do this should be strung up and shot in a town's square! Yeah, maybe I seem harsh, and I dislike kids a LOT, but I sure would NEVER hurt one, and hearing that child abuse in all these forms really pisses me off!! I'll get off my soapbox now, thanks for listening to me rant! I just had to get that out!

This is so so sad. This has sadly happened in my own family. My baby cousin (who is 5 now) was fed medicine to make him sleep instead of actually feeding him when he was baby. His mother was a teen who had a lot of issues and couldn't cope with raising a child. His father was also a teen and too doped up on drugs to care. His grandparents have custody of him now and he's doing better but because of this it's very hard to get him to eat. Even if he hasn't eaten all day he'll only have a few bites of bread or something and say he's full. He is the sweetest little boy and it kills me when I pick him up and he doesn't weigh anything. His 3 year old cousin weighs more than he does.....

I have worked in pharmacy and know there is a baby sedative elixir you can legally buy in the UK from any chemist. Officially it is for travel sickness nausea allergies and "insomnia" but also used as "knock-out-drops" (suitable for children from 2 years old) - but often used for younger babies - technical name is promethazine hydrochloride. We had to be very aware of who was repeatedly buying it and could refuse to sell to them it if we thought it was likely being abused. Us pha girlrmacy workers had alot of training and knew when things were being used for the wrong reason - like the severely underweight teenage girls who bought half a dozen packs of laxatives every Saturday

for instance a pharmacy has to refuse to sell a medication they know is going to be used for an animal. you have to pay 5x the price for basic Piriton from a vet £2.50 at the Chemist £20 from the vet for the same thing. Dog has puppies and very sore teats - you cant buy £1.99 Canendula nipple cream if you tell them it is for a dog. The Vet will let you have it for £15. Most basic human medications are suitable for animals - treat as for a 2 yr old child, and dont tell the pharmacist who you are buying for

There needs to be a balance. This fear mongering culture is getting too much. There's men who won't date for fear being accused of rape, now baby sitters won't work for fear of accusation of murder. Waking up the kids is very good advice though. It brings the risks way down. Maybe some kind of review network would be useful too. Like, parents would need reviews to hire a new baby sitter. This is all so confusing!

I think she means she refuses to accept a baby that is being dropped of asleep. I think she just needs to know that the baby is alive and well when the baby is being delivered into her care. I dont think she means babies arent allowed to sleep when she babysits..

This is so unbelievably rare that it's a non-issue. Babies sleep a lot, so I'm not going to assume they might be sleeping due to abuse. That's a bit ridiculous.

So if the farther decides to go insane and she had to leave with the child for their safety and has to work she should take the baby with her? Or should she just mooch off the government? (B4 you respond, he used to be decent, then went crazy - this was 11 years ago)

This is wise advice, given the insanity of the world today.

I understand this whole deal, but what of babystitting a small kid who needs a daily nap? :/ How are we to proceed that, if we refuse to babysit while baby sleeps?

I think she means she refuses to accept a baby that is being dropped of asleep. I think she just needs to know that the baby is alive and well when the baby is being delivered into her care. I dont think she means babies arent allowed to sleep when she babysits..

This is so unbelievably rare that it's a non-issue. Babies sleep a lot, so I'm not going to assume they might be sleeping due to abuse. That's a bit ridiculous.

Having worked as a nurse and for Child Protective Services I can assure you, sadly it is not as rare as you like to believe. Parents do cause harm and death to their children!

Why in the hell the parents kept letting that woman to see their children and even gave her the baby at all if they knew she used to drug kids?? WTF?

Women should be taking care of their children instead of sending them to a baby sitter.

So if the farther decides to go insane and she had to leave with the child for their safety and has to work she should take the baby with her? Or should she just mooch off the government? (B4 you respond, he used to be decent, then went crazy - this was 11 years ago)
