There’s nothing quite like becoming a pet owner to bring out the inner photographer in all of us. Suddenly, every cute pose feels even cuter, every little scratch is strangely entertaining, and even a simple yawn becomes comedy gold. We want to capture it all.
But even the most photogenic animals have their awkward moments—and of course we document those too, because they’re absolutely hilarious. Since every pet owner has a secret stash of these gems, @expiredkohlscash on TikTok invited people to share theirs. Below are some of the best ones for an instant dose of laughter.

He's paying the bills, so...Do as you're told. And don't you dare messing with the thermostat! 😂
When you scroll through these photos, it’s almost impossible not to reach toward your screen. Whether it’s a fluffy dog, a feathery chicken or a curious pig, every awkward little face feels oddly inviting. Their expressions are so vivid and so full of personality that you can’t help but wonder what’s going on inside their heads. And the truth is, the answer is far more interesting than many people expect.
I have heard that some dogs really do go to the toilet - in the toilet.
Me, when my Wife tells me she made an appointment for my annual medical examination (yes! I absolutely HATE needles..with passion!)
You take them out of the bath, set them on the floor, turn to get the towel, and they promptly start shaking all that water off. On the walls, the floor, you, everywhere. Pay back accomplished.

Research published in BioScience notes that evidence from physiology and behavior strongly supports the idea that animals feel joy, fear, comfort, frustration, affection and even forms of grief. Many of these emotional patterns appear across mammals, birds and other species.
These emotional responses aren’t empty reflexes. Studies of mammalian brains show patterns consistent with complex internal processing. Animals can build preferences, form attachments, and react to things in ways that show memory and expectation. Anyone who has lived with a pet already knows this instinctively, but science now backs it up.
You're not supposed to get it wet! And don't feed it after midnight.
You'd better get me dried off, and fluffed up. There will be unlimited snacks, right?
"Bubba, can we talk about your feet? I have a sensitive boop, here..."
Thought he was going to school, no we didn't say "tutored"...

Scientists have recorded both REM and non-REM sleep in various mammals, and these phases are very similar to the ones humans experience. During REM sleep, animals often show small movements or changes in breathing that suggest internal mental activity.
Aw... Cute. I'VE had hair days like that but never looked cute at the same time.
Border collie. That's the how and the why. XD "Border collie" is the only reason XD

Others suggest their dreams may be simpler, without the narrative structure humans create. Still, the presence of dream-related sleep stages points to something happening in the mind beyond unconscious rest.
Thoughts are harder to measure directly, but scientists have found plenty of signs of mental reasoning in animals. Certain species, like ravens, can anticipate outcomes and understand what others might know or not know—something similar to our concept of “theory of mind.” This kind of awareness shows a level of cognition far beyond instinct.
I don't think this one is awkward at all . . . such a HANDSOME GENTLEMAN!
Yes! The front is fine, but look at the back legs O_o XD
Load More Replies...I wish they made ones like that in large-dog sizes!! XD Stilgar doesn't have much body fat because of the distemper he survived as a puppy, so sometimes he has to wear sweaters/etc. and I would LOVE one as fashionable as this one! XD (He loves wearing them, actually, because he learned as a puppy that people fussed over him and petted him even MORE when he was wearing clothing, so now he's a total diva and refuses to go on a walk without his doggy baseball cap on, at the very least!)

The concept of anthropomorphism reminds us that not every expression or behavior maps perfectly onto human emotion. But a more balanced approach, known as “critical anthropomorphism,” uses human intuition alongside scientific observation to better understand what animals might be experiencing.
Clearly he is middle aged and this is his new profile picture.
All of this science gives new meaning to those awkward and adorable photos. The tilted heads and wide-eyed stares feel even more special once you understand what might be happening behind them. They’re small glimpses into animals who feel, prefer, react and maybe even dream.
So the next time your pet ends up in a hilariously awkward photo, remember that behind that face is a mind trying to understand its surroundings in the only way it knows how. That’s part of what makes these images so heartwarming. They remind us that animals are thinking and feeling their way through life right beside us.
I swear they all look like that lol … the curly longer haired dogs, that is.

When your dog is deflating and you can't find the puncture, submerge sections in water, then look for bubbles.
XD I’m laughing way too hard at this rn XD XD XD XD

Even in a low-speed collision - or even if you have to brake suddenly - a loose pet instantly becomes a projectile. They could get hurt or even d!e. Please, please, always harness in your larger pets and carrier-secure your smaller pets!
Were you holding the phone/camera? I think you got pecked right after this.
"What cake that disappeared off the table??? I have never eat... heard of it!"
"That walkies BETTER not be a trip to the vet like last time!!!"
🎵 Hey, Mr. Custer, you mind if I be excused the rest of the afternoon? 🎵

Poor pupper is overweight :( Hope owners have them on a diet/exercise routine - CKC Spaniels already are prone to a lot of health issues without adding obesity to the mix.
Everyone let's upvote Paul's comment. I think it's silly how BP blocks comments with pics lately.
You didn't see the photo of my new pup, Longring? He's a Belgian Borzoinois. Here, I'll post the photo again below! XD
