‘Awful Everything’ Online Community Shames World’s Worst People And Here’s 50 Of Their Most Hated Ones
When you’re scrolling through social media or reading the news, it can start to feel like there’s no good left on this planet. Hearing about terrible and devastating events can sometimes become a little overwhelming. But instead of keeping these feelings to ourselves, we can start a conversation online.
Awful Everything is a subreddit where more than 1.4M members share pictures about the worst of the worst. From stories about the healthcare system and financial troubles to abusive police officers, this community is shining a light on the struggles people face every day.
Bored Panda has collected some of the top-voted images from this online group, so continue scrolling. And if you’re feeling up to it, share your own experiences and thoughts in the comment section below.

I Wish ...humanity Changes
Aaron Tucker
Since 2014, the subreddit has been steadily growing and bringing our attention to the devastating things happening around us. From gruesome crimes to minor injustices, the community is dedicated to showing how bad our world can get. As the moderators say, “Lament with us as we view all things that are just genuinely awful.”
Sadly, we have a tendency to dwell on the things that go wrong and use stronger words to describe them. When it comes to the positive or neutral incidents, they seem to be not as important. Just think about negative stereotypes—humans are quick to form bad impressions and often have a hard time changing their views.
Poor Guy :(
These stories break my heart, they really do. So many people, SO MANY, are just one illness away from this happening to them. Our government has utterly failed us.
A series of governments have but fundamentally you are right - it started with the idiot Reagan and his (and other's ) belief, that 'trickle down' economics would be the best way to enrich everyone, which has turned out to be a complete load of bullshit and only enriches those who either had wealth in the first place or came up with an idea to generate unimaginable wealth through tech or dodgy dealings (see Senators / Congressmen / Politicians (mostly Rep) .... You need a revolution or a way to rip up your current way of doing things otherwise it will only get worse ....
Load More Replies...It seams to people like me who live in Europe that something is very wrong in America. I see all the rallies against Obama care, selling the idea that a social health system is socialism or communism and they will have the rights taken away. People are dyeing of illnesses and diseases that a perfectly curable in European country. My sister lost her daughter to cancer, that's sad enough but she didn't loose her savings. She was off work for a year and got 100% of her wage, everything regarding treatments, chemo, immunotherapy, radiotherapy was taken care of by social security.
I feel this so hard. My husband died of cancer. I will lose my house in June. It's not fair. We worked all our lives and did our parts.
Damn, I am really sorry you are going through this. Losing your husband is certainly bad enough, but now your home too...you are 100% right, it's not fair at all. I hope something good is in store for you, I really, really do. All my best, for whatever that's worth.
Load More Replies...Affordable healthcare should not be a privilege. It's should be damn human right.
Which it is in proper, civilized countries.
Load More Replies...I am so sorry. I have had terminal cancer for over two years, that would have bankrupted us if we lived in America. But we live in Australia, where serious disease is treated for free no matter how many operations, chemo and hospital stays are required (because it is financed through our tax system). Cancer is tragic enough, without having the govt. bankrupt you as well!
Alvin, I'm sorry to hear this. I was at the hospital yesterday with my husband. He has terminal cancer and it's friggin hard to deal with. Thank god all expenses are paid here too (France). I wish you well and send you a Hug.
Load More Replies...To add insult to injury, there are people who will happily blame this couple for their woes, instead of putting the onus on the government and the system. Nobody ever complains s a bout the millions of dollars the 1% and Corporate get in welfare, but god forbid you work your ass off to make a comfortable life for yourself and end up homeless and in debt up to your ears because you got sick because people are all too happy to call you a worthless POS and if you get government assistance, you are a f*****g freeloader.
My friend couldn't get rid of her American citizenship fast enough. Here in Australia we have free doctors and subsidized medicines.
Yes because…wait, I don’t even have a good answer as to why we keep voting against it…
Load More Replies...Out of curiosity a respectful question: So how does it happen that even with insurance you have to pay so much? Is this kind of insurance not covering everything? What does health insurance in US actually cover?
The story in this thread about Alex Smith (telling about needing insulin) will pretty much explain American insurance. You have a deductible to meet and most insurances only pay a certain percentage of the total expense which leaves you to pay the balance. Depending on the total...it can be impossible. Sometimes people in this country will owe tens of thousands of dollars for medical expenses and that can be after insurance pays their part. It’s sad and sickening.
Load More Replies...I'm so sorry you and your wife are suffering so deeply. Regarding your comments on the system of financing healthcare in the USA, I agree with you completely. We've had a very similar situation when our child had a serious accident 13 years ago. My husband is now 70 and working full time because we had to empty his pension accounts to pay for hospitalization and neurological rehabilitation for our son. (And we had "great coverage"!). We don't expect to ever retire. Our system of healthcare coverage is horrendous.
I did a quick Google search for "causes of bankruptcy" and medical debt is consistently the #1 cause. What's even more troubling is that a 2005 study put it at 46%, a 2010 Forbes article put it at 62%, and Investopedia.com cites a 2019 article claiming 66.5% of bankruptcies are caused by medical debt. That's a worrisome trend.
What I don’t understand is our (American’s) pumped up sense of pride about our country. It is no longer “the best” in the world. We are 15th in economic stability, we rank 17th in quality of life, we rank 24-30 in education (depending on subject matter), we rank 57 in maternal mortality, we rank 33 in infant mortality, we rank LAST in healthcare among the “wealthiest” countries, we rank 24th in environmental health, we rank 51st in gender equality (we have never even had a female head of state),we rank 69 in racial equity, we rank 9th in Covid deaths per capita, and 26th in life expectancy. We have to get our nationalistic heads out of our asses and face reality that the US is NOT the epitome of excellence many Americans think it is. Oh wait! We are #1 in something!!! Gun violence. Proud yet?
No one, and I mean NO ONE, should profit of off someone's else misery. That means health care and the prison system. For-profit, private prisons are a shame just as much as pharmaceuticals and medical systems for profiting in the millions/billions when people are sick.
And this is why I don’t understand why Americans are against healthcare for all. Having to worry about that an illness that can occur at any time will bankrupt me wouldn’t make me feel free at all.
Okay, the US may be awful in many ways, but do you have any idea the conditions that many people who try to immigrate here are coming from? People coming to the US are fleeing places like Haiti and Afghanistan, where many are literally starving and you can be murdered in the blink of an eye by violent gangs or the Taliban, and no one will bat an eyelash. Some people on BoredPanda just love hyperbole and have absolutely no sense of reality or perspective. Honestly, think before you type because this is just... ugh. This comment is so ignorant and shows such a lack of awareness. It treats immigrants and refugees like their experiences in their home countries are trivial and they're just huge idiots. Like what the f***.
Load More Replies...When I was living in America, my mom did anything not to let us be sick, because she said that no matter what, we shouldn't go to the hospital
When my mother-in-law got cancer, the hospital had them bring in copies of their financial records to determine what to charge them. Because my father-in-law served in the military and she retired from 35+ years as a teacher and they pinched pennies always, they had a good amount saved up so they could travel, enjoy retirement, relax, etc. Instead, the hospital charged them more because they had some assets. She's all better now but probably going to have to come out of retirement and start teaching again to pay off the debt. It's disgusting. Meanwhile, the CEO of the hospital is building a massive mansion West of town and everyone is talking about it.
If this is the US I call bullshit. Your system might suck monkeyballs but this is completely ILLEGAL. Either fess up or sue the damn hospital for unfair treatment. Literally.
Load More Replies...What do i think? I dont even like to say this, but America Sucks...and we suck bad!!!!
But live in an evil socialised country like the UK or Netherlands and this would have been free.
I don't understand the everyday people who defend this system that is milking them dry. I guess I just didn't drink the kool-aid.
But money to be in Afghanistan for years, that's no problem. Time for some major changes?
The government are the ones being paid off by the drug companies and medical lobbyists to make sure things stay just the way they are in the USA. My brother in the USA had a kidney stone attack and went to hospital for treatment...3-4 hours of care for 26 thousand WITH his insurance.
Every hospital will assist in paying a portion of bills like this, if not even 90%, if you tell them you can't afford it and ask for assistance. There is no "one" USA Health care system. There are tons of insurance plans people have, government assistance if they don't, aid of all kinds and hospitals that specifically treat cancer that people from all over the world come to, and most are treated for free. There are organizations that help. There's a lot more info that is missing from the OP story. Just saying, there's more to this than you get sick, you're wiped out, period. https://www.cancer.org/treatment/finding-and-paying-for-treatment.html
This is 😭😭😭 I wish that the gov would change or ppl could get outta that shïthole into somewhere with socialist laws like England
America is a strange country. It is a so-called democracy and yet the politicians allow this to happen. And yet, it is the people who elect the politicians
Moral of the story: Don't get sick in America. Addendum: ESPECIALLY don't get sick in America without insurance
I always wonder what the charges are in the US for treatments for diseases like Cancer compared to other countries like France, Germany, Canada and the UK. Who don't put their patients into poverty because they are ill! I know Doctors who have trained in Canada go to the US because they can make more money, had an ex-friend who did this - asked him why - because I don't like getting screwed by the government. My reply was but it's ok to screw dying patients.. I called him immoral and unethical for some reason he didn't like that!
Until the same thing happens to every idiot that says "I don't wanna pay for some other guy's hospital bill", while absolutely paying for that bill every day anyway, things won't change.
I cannot fathom how anyone can say it's our fault, we're lazy, we don't work hard enough, we didn't do something right. That is complete b u l l s h i t! The fact is the system is set up against us and the proof is right in front of us with living breathing people telling us exactly what is happening. Yet some deny it, some laugh it off, and most people just don't care because it isn't happening to them directly. We are not lazy, far from it. We are literally killing ourselves working and doing everything right. It truly infuriates me that a lot of our own people are in such denial about how wrong and horrible our system and government is. How we've been lied to about the very foundation of what this country stands for. How our people rage against their own self interest and will blame their fellow man, woman, or child for what is so clearly the doing of government and rich powerful people. Some of our own people are so blinded by their own pride in this country. That they would rather remain a fool and deny it. Than face how they have been fooled and lied to about it all. My favorite quote is it's easier to fool a man than to convince a man he has been fooled. I'm damn near ready to just give up on everything being the way it should be and all of our people being treated better and taken care of. I just don't think it will ever happen.
Our system could work if we regulated profits. Everyone is trying to make money on your health- from the doctor, to the hospital, to the pharmaceutical companies, to insurance. And all the minor parties inbetween. There’s good people in all those groups who are honestly trying to make the world a better place. But there’s also a lot of greedy b*stards too.
Yes, because the United States is the only country in the world where anyone ever suffered unjustly. In Britain, where they have socialized medicine, a baby named Charlie Gard was born with birth defects. The government said that his case was hopeless and refused to treat him. His parents raised the money from private donations to treat him, and the government not only said no, but put guards on his hospital room to prevent his parents from taking him out of the country for treatment. Hospitals in other countries offerred to treat him for free, but the government refused to let his parents take him out of the country. The United States has problems with its medical care system, but at least we don't put guards on children's hospital rooms to prevent them from gettng unauthorized medical treatment.
Totally agree with OP. I lived and worked in USA for 21 years. Now back in UK. American health care system is absolutely terrifying. Work all your life and 1 illness can wipe you out.
Soory for you, awful system move to France... so much better here.. when you have a chronic disease the insurance pays out 100%.. you pay nothing.. normally your costs are very low..
Another story that prove that the government has failed us. Heartbreaking! Love and hugs to all suffering.
They lost all their money on healthcare? Seriously, healthcare? America has enough money to build nuclear bombers but doesn't want to give its people the basic human right of free healthcare? The US government has their priorities all wrong.
Yup. My husband got a brain tumor. We wouldn't give up on him and put him in hospice (where everything would be paid for, but they would not give him treatment to live, only keep him comfortable to die) so we had to buy a hospital bed, commode, special equipment to make his food, pay more for his insulin, etc etc etc. We could not afford home health care so I called for him, changing diapers and all He died 6 months later, in June 2019. I am now about $60,000 in debt because of it. I'm 59, disabled, and afraid I'm never going to be okay again. All because of our shitty healthcare system (and we had better insurance than many).
Medicare and Medicaid pay for hospice, so as you say it is paid for. Hospice, sadly, is for terminal patients. Though it is upsetting to come to terms with ("Does Medicaid pay for hospice care? In most states, Medicaid participants are eligible to receive hospice care when they have been diagnosed with a terminal illness with a medical prognosis of less than six months to live if the illness runs its normal course. Medicaid coverage can be used alongside the patient's existing Medicaid coverage.) It's not giving up on someone. Youre buying the equipment they have but can't duplicate this. Hospice gives access to the meds, professional care and attention to make their journey as painless and comfortable as it can be. Insurance pays for the items you mentioned. 'm sorry for your loss and I know people want to do the right thing but there are choices. Hospice workers do the things that leave family with horrible memories because theres a lot you can't unsee when a loved one is dying.
Load More Replies...And then there's Germany: my father had cancer and everything was paid for by health insurance. And because of his job, he was in the health insurance, which is considered one of the worst. And everyone dreams of America as the land of opportunity.
No. We need to let go of that idea. Only people who are genuinely far worse off than the US and who do not have the funds to reach Canada or Europe. Those are the only ones left who still think at least America is better than where I am now. America hasn't been the dream in decades.
Load More Replies...I’m so sorry to hear all that!! That completely sucks!! The only good outcome is you still have your wife❤️
For the whole rest of the world, including the poorest third world countries on earth, the concept of not having a general healthcare for AT LEAST for the neccessary treatments. This is so foreign, that reading about the US healthcare system feels like reading science fiction from another planet. What the hell is wrong with you guys over there? How on earth you are okay with this for so long? They lie to you, even the poorest countries on earth can finance a general healthcare, because the costs are in reality much lower. I just cant understand it how you can live with that. (Btw as long as you have to, and have to pay yourselves anyways, go to a country with the same medical standards, but for a tiny fraction of the price. Thailand for example. Even go and live there with your whole family, for as long as the treatment goes, eating all day, and live in a apartment more beautiful than your own at home, will in the end cost less than what the USA is trying to do. Even for cancer)
Stop using the word "civilized." You are not more "civilized" because you enjoy more privilege. That privilege came at a bloody cost. It's like some of you have forgotten how Europe built its wealth. The selective memory is rampant here on BoredPanda and it's absolutely crazy.
Load More Replies...Our government are hateful and evil people that would take candy from a baby if it would put money in their pocket. They are no good pedophiles trying to save their asses after Donald Trump broke up their little playhouse and revealed how evil they really are!! Not a single Democrat rhino and half the Republicans can be trusted! All they want is money and power and for us to be a communist nation with a democrat dictator!!!!
While I agree that our government is not trustworthy, and that there's plenty of fault on both sides, Democrat and Republican, Trump didn't "reveal" anything, other than his own ineptitude and dishonesty. Stop painting him as some maverick messiah - he's just as bad as the rest and worse than most.
Load More Replies...This entry smells fishy. How did you plan for the future but neglected to purchase health insurance? It's very reasonable. Even for those buying their own plan. There are even group shares plans like MediShare for those people who do not have employer sponsored plans. Just doesn't add up
Health insurance has so many limits. It exists to profit off people, not help them.

Even if some of us have a rather optimistic view of life, people still remember more details about their unpleasant experiences. “The brain handles positive and negative information in different hemispheres,” Clifford Nass, a professor of communication at Stanford University, told The New York Times.
He said that negative emotions generally involve more thinking, and the information is processed more thoroughly than positive ones.
Psychologists refer to this as the negativity bias. Picture it: you’re having a pleasant day at work until your coworker throws you an inconsiderate comment. When you come back home, what will you remember more—the overall good day or the remark?
We Are All Spolied
Richest Country
Roy Baumeister, a social psychologist and co-author of The Power of Bad: How the Negativity Effect Rules Us and How We Can Rule It, said that it’s one of the most basic psychological principles that seems to be true everywhere.
“A mind is prone to overreact to negative things relative to positive things; so people can use this to manipulate us, or we can use this to manipulate other people,” he explained. “If we understand this, we can prevent some of the negative effects and improve the quality of our social life.”

The Power Of Hate
There are so many great folks left out of history. Leprosy used to be a disease that would kill or maim so many people through history until a 23-year old black chemist named Alice Ball came up with a cure in 1915. Unfortunately she died the next year due to an accident. Who knows what she could have accomplished? https://scientificwomen.net/women/ball-alice-121
John Tierney, a journalist and the other co-author of this book, mentioned that the reason why we focus more on bad news is probably that it is aimed at the general public. “And the things that affect everyone tend to be negative—we’re all afraid of dying; we’re all afraid of being hurt. Focusing on those shared concerns is the easiest way to reach a mass audience.”
However, people on social media tend to share stories that are more pleasant. “That’s because the positive things we’re interested in—our hobbies, our cultural interests, the books we read—are more idiosyncratic,” he added. “Curating your news feed so that you’re not seeing so many negative stories can be good.”
Everything About This
A Running Top
Understanding and noticing our tendency to dwell on the negativities in life should help us to recognize that things are usually not as bad as we think. While it is important to share and discuss the problems we face in today’s world, it’s also vital to balance it out with the good stuff. So if you’re feeling a bit down, we’ve got you covered. Well, I'm more thoroughly depressed now than when I started, so thanks for that.
If it helps you to feel better, in 2021 there have been great medical breakthroughs and treatments to help beat cancers, alzheimers, diabetes. Plus there have been great strides in ocean cleanup recently. It's a hard pill to swallow, but helps to be aware of horrific things in order to stop it. Progression in humanity isn't always beautiful and quite a dirty job.

Honestly I am disgusted by everything in this post!!! WE CAN CHANGE THIS!
Stuff like these are the reason why I'll never bring kids into this miserable world!
I have great grandkids. By the time they get to my age, there will no longer be a United States because we will violently implode from the inequality we see here today. Such a shame and so sad for words. There should be no First Amendment rights when you promote a lie. Liars such as Trump should be in jail for slander and libel. And broadcasters, such as Fox News should not be allowed to blatantly lie and should be shut down immediately. And then I woke up
Honestly, you'll be lucky if your kids make it to your age before everything implodes, never mind younger generations.

I have never read so many this comment is hidden on BP as in this! I dont know but I may assume that some of my comments will be slated as such but one must defend the underdog a all costs!
I had a medication that I needed to function that cost $25 per pill. I was supposed to take 2 pills per day, but I managed okay if I took 4 pills every 3 days. There were a couple of times when we had to decide whether we would pay for my medicine or the mortgage. There was a class action suit, and I got 12% of that money back. Over $8,000. The medicine is modafinil, by the way.
I always lose faith in humanity when I read these because they are so universal. We have many of the same problems and the corruption runs deep within the system. Imagine following all the right steps but still having to pay to get the end product.

I have a story to add: So, we left my abusive father, he was high on drugs all the time, hit me, emotionally and mentally abused my mom and me, lied and endangered my brother and I. Well, once we left, he continued to harass us and show up at our house, drive by to scare me. We called the police, we got restraining orders, everything, yet the police never enforced the orders. Eventually the judge said he wasn't going to give us anymore. My mom got remarried and my father didn't like that. He drove by our new house, sent threatening texts and FB messages, sat outside our house while my brother nad I were there alone. I called the cops many times. Sometimes they never even showed up. My father wanted to kill us. He had said it in messages, on phone calls. Even told me how he would kill my stepdad. Yet the police still did nothing. I pretty much lost my faith in the legal system then. Anyways, thanks for coming to my TEDTalk
What I learned from this thread: The US healthcare system is a dumpster fire and most (not all) police officers abuse their power, got it 👍. All jokes aside, I really hate how most people are so greedy and self absorbed that the people who are actually good and helping society are suffering because of it :(
Now I want to fight humanity is it possible, how do I do it, and should I do it?

Obviously I'm not saying it's the only place this s**t applies to but it's shocking how many of these are well known to happen in USA. How anyone can claim it's the best country in the world with a straight face is beyond belief. The healthcare system is insane, I mean here insulin is free but all prescriptions are in Scotland, but England still charges something like £10 for prescriptions still give insulin for free. I couldn't even imagine being in a situation where I had to refuse treatment due to the cost. The system in USA is completely broken and folk need to open their eyes to the sad fact it's actually one of the worst
This article is mainly about America. It is one messed up country. Nothing related to the UK I notice.

Indeed. Bad news always sells, so why put anything different?
Load More Replies...As depressing as it is....let it be a reminder we all have to keep fighting for justice and our planet. We can't continue this cycle. Our children deserve better than this.
I mean, we do need to know that all these things occur, but I'm seriously depressed now. Off to find a "redeem my faith in humanity" article. Or puppy videos.
Load More Replies...Moral of the story: DON'T EVER TRUST THE COPS. They think they're above the law and they work for themselves and nobody else.
No. American cops. I was a cop. They were a good bunch who went into policing to try to help people. Not every cop is like American cops. Not all will obey s**t orders from above. Not all are power hungry.

Can we just hide this one? I don't want to see this one anymore. It breaks my heart
Cheese and Crackers, thanks for that load of garbage. What a way to start a Friday evening. I guess the only thing to do is to make sure to contribute something positive this weekend..... Now I think I might need to go lay down and reflect.
I can't go thru the rest of the list. I am literally depressed and crying now. We are the worst.
I can't keep going. This is a very upsetting article. It doesn't mean you shouldn't keep publishing them, though. I wish you all peace and love. Xxx
I need to find an island with nobody on it and bury my head in the sand. My luck will mean the rising sea levels will drown me soon.
These posts have made me glad that I live in a country with a lower amount of racism and insurance paid helf care. It's not perfect, but atleast it's not America.
Hm, start by convincing some people to join you. If you have a large enough number of people, you'll be at the top of the world (not hinting to some people at all).

This is why people are confused about why I'm a misanthrope but get along with people, people are ok but mankind is a whole load of f*****g s**t.
I'm a introverted misanthrope who just can't deal with the smell of everything.
Load More Replies...The editors at BP hate their lives today, and not just today. This is hardly the first or only misery-inducing post they've scraped together for our delectation. Making the world a better place, yet again.
I think we need to see the other side to many of these stories. I’m well aware that humanity sucks. I’m also aware that there is always another side to every single story.
Obviously I'm not saying it's the only place this s**t applies to but it's shocking how many of these are well known to happen in USA. How anyone can claim it's the best country in the world with a straight face is beyond belief.
