We live in the times of the cruel job market where you basically have to shower in a sea of cold “Good luck in your future endeavors!” application rejections to even get to the point of an interview with absolutely no promise of getting a position.

Getting rejected is something all job seekers grow accustomed to, even though it melts your confidence with each letter, leaving you with a sense of last hope until you finally get your job and everything suddenly seems like a bad dream, a nightmare, to be honest.

So it’s only fair that many workers do everything they can to maintain their job even if that means they have to put up with the boss from hell. The subreddit “Antiwork” is a shelter for those who think of ending work, including those who have had enough of their employers and had to expose their deeds online.

Below is a list of the worst screenshots submitted by employees who basically deserve a medal for their patience. Scroll down and be sure to share your own experiences working with a bad boss in the comments, if you have one. And if you don’t, then we are happy for you!

I'm starting to get more furious by the minute reading these posts. Are there no laws to protect these workers in the usa?

Apparently not. In denmark we have unions and laws... I wouldn't work "over there" for any price...

Seriously, when you go over and beyond; and offer your hand - what they want are both your whole arms without any kind of consideration. Sadly, I'd been there, myself. Gotta love these kind of upper managements. Never.

When I was single, I was the one who would volunteer to cover for other people, especially if they had kids and needed to be with them. Some of my coworkers were like clockwork about asking to go early, or calling out entirely, because of their kids. At that time in my life, the extra money came in handy. But the extremely rare time I’d have something happen in my own family that I needed to be there for, I was given a f*****g hard time about it, and accused of being selfish! Selfish? I’m the selfish one—-not the others who are ALWAYS asking for favors? Really? The last time it happened was not long after I got married—-and now had a family of my own to go home to—-and actually got written up for it! Took it over my boss’ head, and got it reversed. But the boss managed to make the work environment uncomfortable, so I found a way better job, and much better boss, with the competition.

That's the reason you shouldn't go above and beyond! I don't blame the worker of course but people take advantage of you and step on your neck! There have to be boundaries

🙋‍♂️ Hi just a quick question. Is there some indication in this text exchange that this happened in the US that I am missing? If there specifically is please point it out. I would hate to think that this is a typical assumption on BP that when something shiitty happens it is in the US. Thank you.

Dear Mike, I can verify that there are laws in place in EU countries, and likely still the UK that prevent employers from getting away with much of this kind of stuff, so... yeah, the assumption that it must be in USA is kinda not far from reality...

If you try to work hard & be a good, reliable go the extra mile employee they will walk all over you. When you can't do all that, for whatever GOOD reason, then they'll bring the hammer down, even though other employees who are lazy, unreliable & wouldn't lift a finger to give extra help get away with it. One time when my elderly mother, who had a lot of serious health issues & was pretty weak after being so sick, was being discharged from the hospital. I called work, in good time for finding a replacement, to let them know about her discharge & I wouldn't be coming in because I couldn't bring her home & immediately leave her by herself. The charge nurse informed me that it was not a good enough reason not to come in. She's an adult & can manage herself. I then said the following. " You know how when your child is sick & you call that you can't come in because you need to look after them? No one ever gives any of you flack about that. Well, today my mother is my child". Drop the 🎤

I used a sick day once in order to spend the day at the hospital, with my mother, while my dad had open heart surgery. My work docked my pay because they didn't consider my dad to be "immediate family".

I only went into the office on Mondays and worked from home the rest of the week. I had eaten something that really disagreed with me and didn't answer my phone when the owner called. He left me a really shitty message for not taking the conference call with a client (that I knew nothing about). When I did finally return his call, he started b*tching me out. I let him rant and then sweetly asked, "Oh. So you wanted to try and have a professional discussion while I was on the toilet suffering from explosive diarrhea? I'll remember that in the future". Of course he sputtered like the idiot he was. I didn't quit that day, but shortly thereafter.

While you don’t have to be best friends with your boss, it’s only fair you two get along as much as possible, making it a healthy workplace environment to be in from 9 to 5 on a daily basis. But, sadly this is not always the case. A recent survey from jobsite Monster.com polled almost 1000 people openly seeking new jobs and found out some shocking revelations.

In fact, when asked why they wanted to leave their current employer, a whopping 76 percent of jobseekers named a "toxic" boss as the reason. Of course, we can debate for ages what the term “toxic” is exactly referring to as it may range from being a jerk to someone who is too demanding, micromanages everything, barks out orders, constantly criticizes his workers or exhibits inappropriate behavior.

One thing is clear—a toxic boss is someone who poisons the workplace with toxicity instead of using their power to motivate, inspire and understand their employees. Meanwhile, 26 percent of the employees in the Monster survey said their boss was "power-hungry" or only looking out for themselves. 18 percent called their boss a “micromanager” and 17 percent said their boss is “incompetent.” The other 15 percent said their boss is never around and doesn’t seem to care.

Another poll that surveyed 2,000 American office workers showed that they would rather have more feedback from their managers than more money. In fact, 53 percent of those surveyed said that more feedback on their role is the number one thing they want to see more of from their boss. Surprisingly, it turned out to be even more important than extra compensation (48%) and more honest communication (48%).

Moreover, 78 percent of the respondents who have been employed, seven in ten, have admired one of their managers as a role model. The results suggest that great managers, CEO and bosses are often overlooked in company’s success and play a vital role in keeping employees on top of their game.

Incredibly, an admirable boss can have so much positive and long-term influence on their employees that it may have a direct effect on their behavior. The survey found that 71 percent of the respondents said their role models directly impact their behavior and choices on a daily basis.

I don't really get this thing about "giving" people time off. Like, do you not have a certain number of vacations days a year? I never "ask" for time off, I tell them when I want to have time off and unless there is a major scheduling conflict with my coworkers I will get that time off.
