We often grab any chance we can to bond with our siblings, maybe it’s a pottery class, lazy movie nights, or just hanging out at home doing nothing special. But sometimes, that bonding time can take a weird turn that leaves everyone uncomfortable.
For example, one new mom shared how her 11-year-old stepbrother got super attached to her during her pregnancy. At first, it seemed sweet, until her baby arrived and his strange fascination with her breastfeeding crossed some lines. Now, her family is blaming her for setting boundaries, and her stepmom says she’s the one causing problems. Keep reading to see how this mom is trying to stand her ground while her family pushes her to give in.

For many women worldwide, breastfeeding is more than just feeding, it’s a vital bonding experience that promotes emotional connection between mother and baby. This time of close contact fosters feelings of security and comfort for the infant while supporting maternal well-being. Breastfeeding offers more than nutrition; it helps establish a nurturing relationship crucial for early childhood development. Many studies show this bonding can positively influence both the baby’s and mother’s mental health, making it a foundational part of early parenting.
Breast milk is often called the gold standard for infant nutrition because of its unique and dynamic composition. Unlike formula, which has a fixed nutrient profile, breast milk adapts over time to meet the growing baby’s specific needs. It contains a perfect balance of fats, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals essential for optimal growth and brain development. This tailored nutrition supports healthy physical and cognitive development during the critical early years of life.
One of the key benefits of breast milk is its rich supply of antibodies. These antibodies are proteins produced by the mother’s immune system in response to infections or vaccinations. When passed to the baby through breast milk, they provide crucial protection against various bacteria and viruses. This immune support is especially important in early infancy, when a baby’s own immune system is still developing. Breastfeeding can reduce the risk and severity of many childhood illnesses, including respiratory infections and gastrointestinal diseases.
Beyond nutrition and immunity, breastfeeding fosters a powerful physical bond between mother and child. The skin-to-skin contact during feeding promotes the release of hormones like oxytocin, which enhances feelings of closeness and trust. This physical proximity helps regulate the baby’s body temperature, heart rate, and stress levels.
Early life nutrition, including breastfeeding, can have long-term effects on metabolic health. Research suggests that breastfeeding may influence gene expression and hormonal regulation related to metabolism, potentially reducing the risk of obesity, diabetes, and related metabolic disorders later in life.

An often overlooked advantage of breastfeeding is its impact on sleep quality for mothers. Mothers who exclusively breastfeed may experience improved sleep patterns, including easier sleep onset and longer, deeper sleep phases. This is partly due to the release of calming hormones like prolactin and oxytocin during feeding. Better sleep can improve mood, energy levels, and overall health, which is especially important during the physically demanding postpartum period.
Breastfeeding also triggers the production of key hormones that promote nurturing and relaxation. Prolactin stimulates milk production, while oxytocin facilitates milk ejection and creates feelings of calm and attachment. These hormonal effects help mothers feel emotionally connected to their babies, reinforcing the caregiving bond. Understanding these biological processes can help mothers appreciate the physical and emotional benefits breastfeeding provides.
However, it’s important to recognize that breastfeeding is a private and intimate experience that requires respect and appropriate boundaries. In some situations, external pressure or inappropriate behavior can create discomfort or distress for the mother. Respecting boundaries is essential, even within families. When boundaries are honored, mothers can focus on nurturing their babies without added stress or discomfort.
In this situation, it feels like the mom’s personal space and boundaries were crossed. The stepmom should have had a serious conversation with her son about appropriate behavior and boundaries. Ignoring or dismissing the author’s concerns only made things more uncomfortable and complicated. What are your thoughts on how this could have been handled better?

Stop. Using. Autism. As. An. Excuse. For. Not. Parenting. Your. Child. And this kid sounds more unhinged than autistic to me. I have a very bad feeling about what it's going to be like for any future girlfriends. Or women who are around him in general, come to that.
I work with autistic kids, and once had to care for a kid who exhibited similar behaviours towards his mother, which she never reined in cos he was just a kid. At 17 he was 6ft 5in, severely autistic, and with a shedload of behavioural problems and inappropriate learned behaviours which were a lot harder to deal with by then because of his physical strength, and exacerbated by his mental age. These boundaries NEED putting in place as early as possible, and consistently, to avoid serious issues later
Load More Replies...She explained to his school what was going on??!!! WTF? The correct response is "stay in your d@mn lane. This doesn't involve you. Don't contact me again.". I hope OP has gotten better at using her spine and actually says no now.
Exactly! How dare that school call up someone other than a parent. If they were in America, the school board and principal would be hearing about it, only the parents should be contacted about a distressed kid.
Load More Replies...I'm sorry, why OP is still in touch with these whackos is beyond me. Go no contact, change your phone number, move if necessary. Inform your employer about the harassment.
Sounds like the kids mom can't be bothered to parent and is using the kid's autism as the excuse.
Exactly that , he needs assessing properly asap , cos tbh ,he don’t sound autistic ffs , he sounds like a bloody sociopath . Which is downright dangerous as he ages , heWILL hurt their little baby !, he will a s a u l t other people ,and that does not bare thinking about does it ,given the mother will just cry aww but my little angel is autistic.you can’t blame him ,plz gimme 5 min in. Room alone with that idiot woman ,actually two mins will do right eugh
Load More Replies...This seems to be a family in the UK, judging by the terminology used. If this kid has a SENCO assistant at school, then he has been diagnosed with additional needs of some type. The assistants are not allowed (under any circumstances) to contact anyone who isn't a responsible parent of the child or one of his assigned carers. This is a huge data act misuse, and that assistant could be in big trouble.
Fed up to the eyeballs with ''autism'' being used as the fkn excuse for EVERYTHING. Tell the kid to get out and mind his own business, JFC.
Censored words are unbearable. So we cannot use any word for a woman's chest now? Hello? Wth
Wtf is wrong with your step mum? This creepy af behaviour is clearly stemming from her
Dark triad rather. I see him at least exhibiting psychopaty and Machiavellianism.
Load More Replies...There is something very wrong going on with this boy (if the story is true, which I doubt). The parents are being incredibly neglectful of his psychological needs. As for OP and the school, they should never have contacted her and is highly inappropriate of them. But there are so many inconsistentisy in this story it's very much BS
Oh dear , you do realise this does actually bloody happen for REAL RIGHT more so in other countries , but even here in uk it happens sociopaths are real n that’s what he is , he so is not bloody autistic what so ever , n his mother saying he is is a vile insult to all the real autistic people around , ( my 24 yr old daughters fella who’s 32 , had an autistic son ,who’s 7 n belive me he’s a wonder little lad highly intelligent! As most re they do Not do this , but sociopaths VERY MUCH DO as they dint have a single ounce of empathy in their bodies, but it’s very much real !

This is so disturbing. Tom is clearly going through some deep psychological issues. Whether it is' out of control jealousy or some sexual obsession, it doesn't matter. He needs help, and his family is not getting him it. This isn't only bad for him; he could pose a threat to OP and her family.
So first off is Tom's bio dad in the picture at all and if so what does he think of all of this? Is he just as enabling as Mary or has he tried to set rules and boundaries for the kid that she just steamrolls over? Also it's really to Tom's benefit to learn some boundaries and what is and is not appropriate. He pulls that shít on the wrong person he could get his àss beat or kílled
This was two years ago. I really want to know how things turned out. Because that kid is dangerous. He’s 13 now? I can’t imagine.
It kind of bugs me when people call someone "entitled" in this manner. What they mean is "self-entitled". Everyone is "entitled" to be paid for working. Nothing wrong with saying we are entitled in that original sense. "Self-entitled" means when you think you are entitled to something - you have judged yourself as entitled - to something you are not in fact entitled to - something nobody else has determined you are entitled to, only your "self" has.
Jeez already that kid is far more than bloody autistic ffs , kids with autism are a tuaky incredibly intelligent!!! He clearly has never been assed , it’s just his mothers excuse for NOT BEING LIKE YOU KNOW A BLOODY PARENT 🤬being an empath m I could feel ops frustration with all this , he is not right , n he needs proper assessment , and proper care plus HE IS NOT YOUR BROTHER OP he’s ligt just you fathers wife s kid nothing more !!! And a vile little brat with it , one as will get worse as he gets older , his behaviour is 100% UNACCEPTABLE so is the attitude of that idiot mother , some people SHOULD NEVER HAVE KIDS SHES THE VERY DEFINITION OF THAT
You are the furthest thing from an empath I've ever encountered. Some kids with autism are intelligent. Some are not. Autism is a spectrum, in every aspect.
