Cannot upvote this enough! Catholic all girls school run by nuns, where it was rammed home that the worst thing that can happen to you was teenage pregnancy. Classmates also amplified this “fear” and judgement. For some of us, this fear stuck for life not just the school years. I’ve been explaining/citing tokophobia for decades.

This movie scared and creeped me out as a kid. It is not a joyful movie to watch on repeat. I think this is why it isn't talked about a lot. So despite its true artistry it is not beloved.

I want to upvote this a million times. I have curls. They are cute. But I don't want to look adorable all of the time. Straight hair just feels more professional overall because I don't have to worry about frizz. Or sometimes the curls look good and then an hour or so later I see my reflection and they've gone haywire. Straight hair doesn't do that and it is so relaxing knowing your hair won't turn on you.

As someone with curly hair who often gets this attitude from people with non-curly hair all the time, no they're not precious, no they don't look that good, no they are not easy to maintain and I really hate people with straight hair telling me how 'precious' my hair is. Curly hair doesn't suit everyone, just like wavy hair doesn't or straight hair doesn't. Besides, 'natural' curls often don't look good or healthy. If you scroll down with the lady with the green blouse who has red curls in the 'after' picture-- that is not what natural curls look like. It would take me as much effort/styling/treating -- plus hairspray-- to get my curls to look like that. Despite having naturally curly hair, the maintenance on having them look bouncy and good is more invasive and damaging than than straightening it for me, and it doesn't look any better on my face shape. People shouldn't be ashamed of their curls, but people shouldn't tell people like me not to straighten my hair.

I once got bumped up to first class for a 45 min flight in the mid 90s. They gave me my first taste of craisins and an OJ before we even took off. I was very impressed. Then years later I was bumped up to Business Class on British Airways. Omg. I got a seat that almost laid flat, real glasses and silverware, and a little fan to hide myself from the person next to me. No upgrades since then, but I still hope for it.
