Us politics has always been teribble and has constantly been destroyihg the lives of working class people... the main difference between Trump and the other nro-liberal politicians was just that Trump was louder and more abovious about all the sh^tty c**p they were doing. But seriously, the US has been doing the sh^t that Trump did for decades. Just look at the war crimes of the Iraq war, Korean war, and Vietnam war. Or look at Abu Grhaib. Or the Indonesian massacres of 1965-1966. Or the CIA support of the fascist Chilean dictator Pinochet. Or our support for the fascists in Argentina and Brazil. Etc US politics have always been ruining the lives of people... just the other Democrats and Republicans (aka liberals/neo-liberals) were quieter about it.

Basic math is pretty useful tbh. Use it apl the time (and you wouldn't be able to budget without it). Anf then there are the problem solving/critical thinking skills you pick up while doing your work. Those complex math problems involving finding the area of a unrealistically shaped polygonal yard... turns out it actually was qbout teaching us how to problem solve. Or those essays we wrote on novels where we had to argue that the blue curtains actually represented sadness... turns out that was not teaching us to be pretentious but to think critically and formulate sound reasoning to explain our perspective to others. Idk... schools definitely are teaching useful skills. I would argue the skills we learn in schools are extremely useful, it's just not always immediately apparent what skills we are picking up.

Only replying to you cause Jy got downvoted so much that I can't reply to him anymore: yo Jy, have you ever considered that the average server where you live may be the exception and not the rule? It's an obvious fact that waiters/waitresses in richer areas will have a clientelle that can afford to tip more. According to data from the Economic Policy Institute, servers/bartenders/other service workers make on average $10.11/hour. Yes you will have a few outliers making about $20/hour (which is what $150 in tips over an 8 hour shift ACTUALLY works out to. Not $50/hr) , but on average workers in the industry are making $10/hour. So stop using your anecdotal evidence as proof that tipping culture is "fine actually".

Actually, tipping practices have a earlier origin than the depression and, like a lot of things in the United States, it was originally implemented due to racism. Tipping emerged after slavery was abolished so that white Americans could "hire" black people without paying them a decent wage so long as they claimed it was possible for those black people to make a tip. Tipping essentially emerged as a way to pay black people as little as possible for their labor.... abd the practice then spread to all poor workers to save the owner class money so that they could chase greater and greater profits.

They are short staffed because workers decided it wasn't worth risking their lives or their family members' lives to work in the service industry during an ongoing pandemic for $3/hr and meager tips that barely get them above min wage while being yelled at by entitled boomers. Not because some mythical people just aren't tipping enough anymore.

1) just raise the prices on all the items. I am paying that much anyway after tip. It's not a big deal. 2) Complete b******t on the "not a lot of profits left over to pay the workers more". Yeah there is. The owner class that own restaurants are not all struggling just to get by. Many of them are freaking multimillionaires and got those millions from owming their restaurants and taking profits from them (profits they gained by paying their workers less than their worth). 3) And for the select few "small businesses" that actually are struggling... if you can't pay your workers a living wage, you don't deserve to be doing business.

Doesn't matter if federal law outlaws it, it barely ever gets enforced and a law only matters if it is strictly enforced. Also... if he is the owner... this guy just automatically gets ALL the profits the restaurant makes. Yeah... he doesn't take a salary because the owner class aren't wage laborers. They pay themselves through profits. "Not taking a salary" doesn't mean much cause he is the freaking owner! Any profits the restaurant is making automatically go to him!

Or... stop incentivizing breeding so much in the first place. Why is pet breeding treated as a capitalist business? Why do we have capitalists creating mills where the main concern is profitability which often means raising puppies for as cheap as possible and raising as many as possible? The main problem here is capitalists valuing profit above the lives of other living things as they always do. There wouldn't be as much overcrowding in shelters if capitalists didn't force dogs into breeding to produce their supply and they didn't throw out certain dogs that didn't make the cut... Edit: i know you said shop "ethically"... but that's not really possible. There is no "ethical" consumption under capitalism. Everything we buy is screwed up in one way or another... no matter how inocuous it seems at first.

The question is very poorly written. It should be "Do you think Loki is an antagonist?" Or something which would just mean that he is written in a way where he is in opposition to the protagonist (main character that the reader/viewer is following). Who is and isn't a "villain" is very subjective and thus doesn't have a "right" answer. Remember... there are people who viewed Martin Luther King Jr. as a villain for his anti-capitalist views and activism. There are prople who view Milton Friedman as a hero, even though Friedman is responsible for the massacres/genocides that occurred in Chile, Argentina, and other places ravaged by his theory of shock therapy capitalism. A villain to one person can easilly be a hero to another and vice versa.

This might be a case of a teacher being petty and trying to give a studemt a worse grade than they deserve because they don't like the student for whatever reason.

Meaning it is confirmed by the framing of the question that 4/6ths of Marty's pizza was bigger than 5/6ths of Luis's pizza and the real question was to figure out a scenario in which that was possible (not just to say "not pssoble because 5 > 4" and be done with it). Thus saying the pizzas were different sizes was the correct answer. This is easier to illustrate if we convert the "pizzas to whole numbers. A lot of Americans/western Europeans live like that as well. It's not just an "Asia" problem. I know some people who can only afford rent on a studio apartment (meaning 1 room total) if they live with 3 other people. Contrast that with Vietnam where most people own their homes and thus don't even have to pay rent and those that do pay rent pay far less of a percentage of their income than Americans do. It's kinda why there are so many expats/American veterans who moved to Vietnam. That and because Vietnam's healthcare systems takes better care of US vets than our own government does.

Seeing as how most of these "amazing designs" center around designing for cars, the most inefficient/wasteful form of transport... I'd say part of the reason is because we waste so much time designing/building up systems that are ultimately worse than previously existing solutions (trains, biking, streetcars, etc.). That's the private sector for you... wasting time, resources, and our environment in persuit of greater and greater profits (more profitable to sell mutliple people individual cars/insurance/maintenance/gas rather than collectivizing the costs through a more efficient publicly owned transit system).

EV's are not the solution to climate change. In fact, the push for EV's just shows us that we are STILL trying to delay meaningful action on climate change. I know so many people (including on this site) are resistant to the very fact that it is quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to make car dependent cities/car culture eco friendly... but that's the truth. There are so many other ways in which building our cities around cars hurts the environment including but not limited to suburban sprawl, pollution, roadkill, roads that break up eco systems which drastically harms biodiversity, etc. If you want to address climate change, support public transit! Support trains! Support middle housing over single family detached homes! Support mixed use zoning developments! Be against vontinued suburbanization!

It never really was "government for the people". The constitution was written by white landowning men who wanted to preserve the status-quo of white landowning men controlling the country. They literally didn't want normal people who didn't own any land to be able to vote. The only good founding father was Thomas Paine as he advocated for every man (including black people meaning he was extremely against slavery) being able to vote and the rest of the founding fathers pretty much hated him. He even was a strong advocate for women's rights! In the 1700s! But the rest of them literally hated the idea of equal rights for the poor so they designed the government to favor the rich.

While much better than the US, the Social Democratic countries have a lot of problems as well. Research suggests that those social democratic countries only have all their welfare gains becauae they were located right next to soviet bloc countries that had all those protections/welfare states/more. So to prevent their citizens from becoming too rowdy after seeing how much better supposedly "third world" countries in the USSR were treating their citizens, social democracy was established. After the fall of the USSR, the capitalists immediately started taking many of those rights aeay. Meaning the social Democratic countries will be just as s**t as the US is in time because capitalists always try to strip away rights/protections for ordinary people since it is profitable for them. The only viable solution is to take away the power of the Capitalists completely by establishing socialism.

Some interesting engineering feats but let’s be honest, some of these are examples of how inventive human beings can be when they are wrecking our planet. Destroying the earth even when it is pretty is still destroying the earth. An elevated road or bridge that animals can use is still changing their behaviours and expecting them to adapt to our presence, this is still putting our needs ahead of theirs.

When you think of the hundreds of millions of people who are starving in the world, coupled with an awareness of how much of the food we consume is imported from the most impoverished countries in the world, we are basically stealing and doing harm, being the cause of the suffering and death of millions because of western gluttony and greed. My step mother taught me right. What you take, you eat. When you get greedy and have to try to eat more than you need, you'll think better next time. I also have a rule that the kids have to eat at least a small portion of vegetables. And I do my best to make sure there's at least one healthy option that the kids like. They don't have to eat all kinds of veggies served, just pick the ones they do like or at least can tolerate. If you know a kid hates a certain vegetable, be sure to at least have another option for them rather than forcing them to eat the few kinds they hate.
