Busses are mainly inefficient time wise because nobody uses them. If twice the # of people use them, they put twice as many busses out there. Europe does this and it works very well. There are some other issues as well, mainly bus stops that are offset - not taking up road space and bus stops that have DOORS so they can protect from 4 sides rather than 2. Basically treat the bus system more like a subway.

I remember when I was planning our wedding my soon to be husband said "are you excited about the wedding or the marriage". The bus is extremely inefficient time-wise, especially if you don't live in a major city or if you commute. Also the greyhound suuuucks. I once took a 8hr bus ride from PSL to Jax. If we can fix the mass transit problem then more people might actually use it.
