I'm guessing men Live out in a desert because they have "no fresh, drinking water" = very limited, access to partners. Women are surrounded by willing partners (at least compared to men), but a lot of these are not good partners. So they have access to "water", but that water might not be very clean.

I did not get help for my severe depression until I was 44.
